An Authentic Taste of Japan: Aki Oishi at Brgy. Coloong 2, Valenzuela City

If you have been to Japan, you more likely have fallen in love with their local cuisine other than their sakura blossoms, picturesque parks, and the very comfortable train rides. One Valenzuela can still remember how good the food was from their miso soup to their ramen and bento meals in a short trip that she had several months ago.

Thus, it is indeed a welcoming treat to find Aki Oishi at Coloong II. It is owned by the Sato family, led by Chef Aki, and is on its ninth month of serving wonderful Japanese dishes. It has become popular to many Valenzuela residents looking for authentic Japanese cuisine. Their menu is pretty extensive for they have several starters, maki, sushi, donburi, gyoza, sashimi, shoyu and miso ramen, a variety of bento meals, burgers, tempura and takoyaki platters. They also have milkshakes and kakigori (shaved ice) for dessert.
Aki Oishi's red door invitingly welcomes everyone to sample their dishes.
Vibrant lanterns and kawaii food images greet and surround diners at Aki Oishi.
One particular dish that One Valenzuela really aimed to eat here was their Ise Ebi, or Japanese spiny lobster. Eating lobster has been sitting in her bucket list for so long since it is quite expensive, reaching Php1,500 to Php3,000 a piece at Seaside Macapagal. Who would have known that a Japanese restaurant in Coloong would offer such wonderfully baked lobsters?

The lobster takes some time to cook and so ordering something else on the menu will help you tide over your hunger pangs. One Valenzuela also got a few more staples to eat together with her group. One Valenzuela has eaten a ton of california maki in several places within and outside the city and she has to say that Aki Oishi's california maki is highly recommended. On the other hand, their bowl of hot miso ramen is quite big and is good for sharing (as what they did). The texture of the noodles is smooth, chewy, and renders a firm bite. Very Japanese.
Do not miss ordering some california maki at Aki Oishi. (Php60 for 4 pcs.; Php120 for 8pcs.)
A bowl of miso ramen can already be shared by two hungry Valenzuelanos. (Php190.00)
The ebi tempura bento meal and lobster dish eventually followed. The bento meal was bigger than what One Valenzuela expected. The set includes some egg soup, veggies, nicely fried ebi tempura, rice, and a scoop of what she believes is chocolate ice cream. The lobster dish was the showstopper! It was nicely baked with creamy bechamel sauce and topped with some melted mozzarella cheese.
The ebi tempura bento meal will leave you with a very happy tummy. (Php195.00)
Aki Oishi's baked Japanese spiny lobster. The one in the photo is worth Php750.00. Aki Oishi also has small ones which are priced at Php250.00 (200grams).
Dining at Aki Oishi was another great opportunity to experience good food with fantastic people in tow. The Land of the Rising Sun may be around two thousand miles away from the Philippines but through Aki Oishi, Valenzuelanos can recreate their own little Japan experience without leaving home.

Go Calicrazzzzy!: SN'P and Roll at Brgy. Poblacion, Valenzuela City

Craving for Japanese food? You might want to visit this fairly new Japanese restaurant that One Valenzuela found during a weekend eatsploring adventure at Barangay Poblacion.

SN'P & Roll began as an online business selling maki, aptly named Make.Eat.Maki., four years ago. It then changed to its present name last December 2014 which is a combination of the owners' initials- Saj, Nap, and Princess. After saving enough capital for a modest dine-in restaurant, SN'P & Roll formally opened its door to the public this March.
SN'P & Roll: We satisfy your cravings
SN'P and Roll has california maki packages which can be enjoyed solo or with a group of friends.
The restaurant offers appetizers, rice meals, "the dons"(gyudon, katsudon, oyakodon), noodles, maki, belgian waffle, and shakes. For first time visitors, Saj of SN'P and Roll recommends that you order their maki and ramen combos. Craving for some rice on your plate? You may also try SN'P and Roll's Cordon Teriyaki, a fusion dish inspired by Japanese and French cooking.
Calicrazzzzy! California maki of SN'P and Roll (4's at Php55.00)
Hot and savory tonkotsu ramen. SN'P and Roll has ramen and maki combos.
It is also interesting to know a bit of fact that Saj, one of the store owners, once worked and learned how to cook dishes from a Japanese chef in a well known Japanese airlines. Additionally, SN'P and Roll wants every customer to have a wonderful dining experience. "Mura, magandang service, at masarap na pagkain," Saj shared. (Affordable, good service, and palatable meals.)
A plate of belgian waffle to start your sweet morning.
When you are eatsploring around Barangay Poblacion and Barangay Pariancillo Villa, make sure to drop by SN'P and Roll to grab some maki and a bowl of flavorful ramen. Oishi!

Food Finds! Eatsploring the Ever Supermarket Grounds at Polo, Valenzuela City

October has been a pretty busy month again for One Valenzuela (Well, who's not busy nowadays?). Squeezing in just some eatsploring time on Sundays around the city, it is great to learn that there is quite a number of food establishments that one can go to within the vicinity of Ever Supermarket at Polo, Valenzuela City. What did One Valenzuela see? Here is a rundown of the food spots which you can visit in the area:

Ever Supermarket at Brgy. Polo, Valenzuela City. The usual routine for One Valenzuela's family back then was (1) buy some groceries and then (2) eat right after. Happy childhood days.
Milk tea and more at Tea-Pop.  The first time One Valenzuela had a sip of their milk tea was during a food trip at Malabon. Their store is located just along M.H. Del Pilar Street and will be the first one among the food establishments which will welcome you at the Ever Supermarket grounds. Glad to have them over at Valenzuela City. (Like Tea-Pop on Facebook  here.)

Tea-Pop: Tea and more!
24-Hour Dining at La Sam's Diner.  One Valenzuela got the chance to eat at their mother branch location at Palasan, Valenzuela. La Sam's is very popular among Valenzuelanos residing there, more likely because it offers an array of snacks and dishes other than being a long established diner in the area. (Like La Sams's Diner on Facebook here.)
La Sam's Diner: Di ka na mabibitin. Di ka na magmamadali. Di ka na mapagsasarhan!
Going Japanese at SN'P & Roll. SN'P & Roll offers popular Japanese dishes like ramen, maki, teriyaki meals and "the dons" (gyudon, katsudon, oyakodon). The restaurant also has belgian waffle and shakes. One Valenzuela loves their california maki so expect her going back to this food spot every now and then. So is this what you call calicrazzzzy, SN'P & Roll? (Like SN'P & Roll on Facebook here.) (See Blog Post Here: Go Calicrazzzy!)
SN'P & Roll: We satisfy your cravings
Burger tripping at Kalborger. Kalborger branches have been featured in One Valenzuela blog way back in 2013 (see Kalborger post here). Since then, more branches have already opened in various barangays in Valenzuela and, yes, in other parts of Metro Manila. (Like Kalborger on Facebook here.)
Kalborger: The LARGEST BURGER in town
This post makes One Valenzuela hungry. You will get a peek on what these food gems offer in the following posts (check the links above!). For the meantime, tara, eatsplore tayo!

Ever Supermarket is located at No. 30 Poblacion 1, M.H. Del Pilar Street, Brgy. Polo, Valenzuela City. Just in case you've been into these food spots, drop One Valenzuela a comment below. Would love to hear about your food recommendations.

Abe San Japanese Resto at Brgy. Malinta, Valenzuela City

A few months ago, a dining place caught the attention of One Valenzuela as she and a handful of students traversed Gov. I. Santiago Road in their school service on the way to the National Library. It read "Abe San". From there, she took a mental note that she will visit it in the future.

This Good Friday, One Valenzuela went for a joy ride in the city together with hubby and Little One Valenzuela. After stopping by Pasolo Maternity and Medical Clinic, they then went to  Abe San.

Luckily, Abe San was open. It has a wide open space for parking vehicles. By observation, the place can accommodate a small group of people and she somewhat wished it was a bit cooler especially now that we're in the middle of summer. But after being greeted with a warm smile by Mr. Abe (he even took their motorcycle helmets and placed them neatly at the side of the table), One Valenzuela knew that they are in for a treat.

Abe San Japanese Resto
Kawaii paper lanterns!
The Japanese restaurant was opened five months ago by Mr. Abe and his Filipino wife. Mr. Abe cooks the food for diners. You would not mind the modesty of the place knowing that your sashimi shall be prepared by a real Japanese. This scenario reminded One Valenzuela of Suzuki Japanese Carinderia in Tondo, Manila

You'll find the following in Abe San's printed menu: tonkatsu, gyudon, oyakodon, katsudon, burger steak, fish fry, gyoza, koroke, omurice, tonteki, teriyaki (pork and chicken), tempura, ika ring, french fries, oden, sashimi, and sushi. Most of them are in the 35 to 60 pesos price range. Only the ika rings, tempura, and sashimi are in the Php100-150 bracket.

Got no idea of what you will get? Look at Abe San's walls
Asking for their bestsellers, Mrs. Abe suggested something which was not on the menu. "Try our ramen.", she said. After a while, the group settled for two bowls of ramen (Php120 per serving), a plate of gyoza (Php35), tamago (Php70), and two bottles of ice cold soft drinks.

Abe San's Ramen (Php120.00)
Tamago (Php70.00)
Mrs. Abe said that one can also order a set of this at Php380.00.
The ramen's soup was really good! Ang sarap! One Valenzuela definitely enjoyed the ramen. The gyoza is satisfactory. Hubby loved the tamago, especially its sticky rice.

There's a reason to go back here since Mr. Abe's wife recommended One Valenzuela to try out another type of ramen. This and the other food listed on the menu made her look forward into visiting Abe San on another occasion. Before the group got on the motorcycle, Mr. Abe said "Salamat!".

You are welcome. Until our next visit!
