Finding Tranquility and Togetherness: D' Cove Pavilion and Fishing Grounds at Barangay Tagalag, Valenzuela City

Over the long vacation last week, One Valenzuela was able to roam around the city once again. One of the things that she really love about living in Valenzuela City is that you can have the best of both the urban and rural worlds. By going to the neighboring barangays of Coloong, Bisig, and Tagalag, you will have that rustic feel of the countryside, being surrounded with water and fishponds. D' Cove Pavilion and Fishing Grounds of Brgy. Tagalag is one of the go-to places of anglers and families alike who want to have a quick fishing trip without leaving Metro Manila.
D' Cove Pavilion and Fishing Grounds' main entrance is surrounded by bamboo. From here, guests ride a ferry to go to the cabanas, kubo, and the pavilion.

D' Cove Pavilion and Fishing Grounds is one of the fruits of the Tojino's toils in the United States, working for 35 years with Sir Alex as a general contractor and Mommy Lu as an interior designer. "He likes to live by the water," Mommy Lu described her husband. Hailing from Malabon, they both find Tagalag's waters and the city's peace and order inviting to retirees like them.  They acquired the fishpond nestled beside the Polo River way back in 2006 as a place to stay when they are in the Philippines. They eventually opened the two-acre wide D' Cove Pavilion and Fishing Grounds in 2013 to the public, sharing the serenity that Tagalag's fishponds bring and the fun in catching fish which can be cooked straight out of the water through D' Cove's paluto service.

D' Cove Pavilion and Fishing Grounds' calm waters are indeed welcoming.

After the ferry ride, guests walk along the bamboo bridge which connects the cabanas of D' Cove Pavilion and Fishing Grounds.
Bangus, tilapia, bidbid, kitang, and biya can be caught in the waters of D' Cove Pavilion and Fishing Grounds. As of this writing, tilapia goes for Php70 per kilo while bangus is priced at Php100 per kilo. Sir Alex intends to introduce Pangasius (cream dory), a large type of freshwater fish, which will excite serious anglers who want to experience a bit more fishing action. While the fingerlings are growing, anglers can have a go and try to catch large bidbids (lady fish). If you catch a bidbid which weighs two kilos or more, you get the fish and a t-shirt from D' Cove for free!
A large bidbid (lady fish).
With the entrance fee of Php60.00 per head, you can already go fishing in one of the regular-sized cabanas. Together with Mommy Lu and Sir Aboy, One Valenzuela went around the cabanas which are already occupied by guests. There were small families, a tourist from the United Kingdom, several groups of friends, and anglers. Some guests were from Manila and Quezon City while some were Valenzuela City residents.

The De Jesus family from Baesa, Quezon City was invited by a good friend from Valenzuela to fish at D' Cove Pavilion and Fishing Grounds. They are occupying a larger cabana (Php1,500.00). Regular-sized cabanas come free with the entrance fee.
Choose where to stay among the cabanas of D' Cove Pavilion and Fishing Grounds and go fishing with the family. For those who do not have fishing rods, D' Cove has simple bamboo rods which can be rented at Php10.00 each. As for bait, D' Cove has masa which you can buy(Php20.00).
Sir Greg and Kuya Boche are regulars here. They said that they were able to catch about ten kilos of fish the last time they were at D'Cove.
For larger groups, D' Cove Pavilion and Fishing Grounds also has floating carousels  which are in the middle of the fishpond (Php500.00, capacity of up to 8 persons), two kubo or nipa huts  which have their own deck, bathroom, and kitchen (Php3,000/day), as well as a pavilion equipped with videoke, bathroom, kitchen, and a water dispenser (Php4,000/day).

The large kubo has a bedroom, a comfort room, and a kitchen with a personal refrigerator and stove. Don't want to cook? Other than the paluto, you can also order set meals at D' Cove which already include rice and a viand.
For larger groups, you may rent D' Cove's Pavilion (Php4,000).
Mommy Lu Tojino and Sir Aboy of D' Cove Pavilion and Fishing Grounds. Salamat po for the wonderful stories and the tour around D' Cove.
Sir Aboy painted the birds and other images that you will find in D' Cove.

The warmth of Tagalag's community radiates through the simplest smiles.
Before leaving D' Cove, One Valenzuela had to ask the reason behind the name. Mommy Lu explained further that coves are sheltered bays which evoke serenity. "Do you feel it as well?" she asked back. Looking at the water and feeling the gentle winds of Tagalag, One Valenzuela gave a simple nod and answered, "yes". A fishing trip with family and friends at D' Cove Pavilion and Fishing Grounds blends in the tranquility one don't get in the bustling workplace and the fun of togetherness while casting the reels into the water.

Salamat po, Sir Alex and Mommy Lu of D' Cove Pavilion and Fishing Grounds for having One Valenzuela. Let us support local, have fun fishing in Valenzuela City!

Santiago's Resort at Gen. T. De Leon, Valenzuela City

Though it is already raining this month of May and the country is already expecting a typhoon this week, One Valenzuela believes that it is still not too late for Valenzuelanos to take a dip at a nearby pool. For everyone's reference, here are some photos of Santiago's Resort which were taken around January.

Fees for day time swimming are Php100 for adults and Php80 for kids. Night time swimming fee is Php150 for both adults and kids. View the image above for the rates of cottages and rooms.

Updates on Paraiso ni Baste at Canumay East, Valenzuela City

Paraiso ni Baste is developing beautifully. One Valenzuela has been frequenting this resort for a number of times now and she is so glad that it has maintained the quality of resort experience it offers to guests. And within a short period of time, the said place has added new features and services for everyone to enjoy. Scroll down and view the images below to know more.
Very inviting pool

Let us swim in the lap pool!
Free Delivery from Villa Marcelina Restobar and Grill, Brgy. Lingunan. Villa Marcelina serves "authentic Filipino and Chinese cuisine plus exotic pulutan and pancit sa bilao".
Paraiso ni Baste Hotel Suites. One Valenzuela was given the opportunity to view one of the rooms. An overnight stay at one of their hotel suites costs Php2,500. What she loved about it? Well, the room is (1) very clean, (2) has modern features, and (3) has direct access to the pool area by using the back door. Sweet.

Paraiso ni Baste Pavilion. Looking for a place where to spend an important occasion such as a wedding, a 7th birthday, or a debut? Paraiso ni Baste now has pavilions which one can rent.

Wave Pool. One Valenzuela saw some on going construction at one side of the resort during an early January swim. A new addition to the resort this summer is the introduction of the wave ball.

Updates on the Resort's Rates and Reservation. Just last week, One Valenzuela learned that Paraiso ni Baste only takes reservations for its hotel suites and penthouse. One Valenzuela advises everyone to go here early because the resort observes the "First come, first serve" policy when it comes to kubo and cottage rental.

One Valenzuela Travels: Off to Baguio (Part 2)

Where to Stay at the Summer Capital of the Philippines:

One Valenzuela was able to buy a discounted reservation with Baguio Burnham Suites during the Travel Expo earlier this year at the SMX Convention Center. Strategically located near Burnham Park, this hotel is nestled in front of the Orchidarium and just near the Biking Grounds (Hooray for Little One Valenzuela!).

One Valenzuela and her family arrived at the hotel very early, at around 5:30 am. Since no room was available then, they just left their bags at the luggage area and ate at Good Taste Restaurant for that much needed big breakfast. Afterwards off they went to Mines View Park and Good Shepherd. After a tiring but happy walk at the park and now carrying heavy ube bottles, they again arrived at the hotel and  were able to check in as early as 11:00 in the morning though the official check-in time is still at 2:00 pm.

De Luxe Studio Type Room with Twin Beds
The family got Room 213. The room is sufficient in size for a group of 3 to 4 persons and is clean according to the family’s modest standards. It has a built in cabinet and a small refrigerator. The beds are comfortable and the family snored their night away after exploring this beautiful city. The comfort room is quite big too and has the necessary essentials for a good bath. The room does not have a park view but it was quite fine with the group.

Bath essentials in the room
Room Counter. WiFi signal is quite strong in this area compared to other spots in the room.
The hotel staff was very warm to the family’s requests regarding their luggage concerns and directions on how to commute in the city. On the other hand, One Valenzuela was not able to try the hotel’s buffet breakfast as it was not included in the reservation that they got. They simply dined out most of the time, trying the recommended restaurants on Tripadvisor and by popular blogger “X, Find Good Baguio Foods” (who responded to One Valenzuela’s questions promptly. Salamat, X!)

The family had a wonderful stay at this hotel. Will consider another night here when another Baguio travel opportunity arrives.

Special mention: Thank you Emily of Baguio Burnham Suites for being accommodating!

Other Possible Places to Stay:
You may also consider Eurotel which is located just beside the CafĆ© by the Ruins and is also a few meters away from Good Taste Restaurant. While walking, hubby and One Valenzuela saw that they have this promo of Php800/person (minimum of 2 persons), buffet breakfast included.  One Valenzuela stayed here before, the room they got is quite small but it does not matter that much since she spent her day mostly outside the hotel.

A relative of One Valenzuela who also frequents Baguio City because of her daughter who studies there suggested Prime Hotel which is strategically located along Session Road.  She said “…sa may Prime Hotel accessible, walking distance papuntang Burnham Park at one ride papunta ng Mines View. Walking distance sa market. May free breakfast for two at may fast food sa baba...“. Upon inquiry, One Valenzuela learned that an overnight stay will cost Php2,000 to Php2,500, inclusive of plated breakfast.

By the way, if you plan to visit Baguio during the Panagbenga Festival, make sure to have your hotel reservations early. And also be prepared with the volume of people during that period.

One Valenzuela Travels: Off to Baguio! (Part 1)

Everyone needs a break. After putting off this much deserved short vacation several times since summer, One Valenzuela has now managed to squeeze in two days off from work. The destination? Hello, Baguio!

In this post and in the following articles, she will impart details on the said trip. One Valenzuela did much of the planning and will also include recommendations as well as several directions she received from Baguio locals and other friends who also went there recently.

How to get to Baguio City via Public Transportation from Valenzuela City:
One Valenzuela would say that the easiest way to reach Baguio City is by riding a Victory Liner bus at their Caloocan Bus Terminal. The ongoing fare rate is Php445.00 for a one way bus ride. From Malinta, Valenzuela City, just ride a jeepney going to Monumento (Php10.00). Go down at Victory Mall. The terminal is just at the back of the mall, you may ask the security guards on duty for directions.
If you take the "midnight trip", you will be at Baguio at around 5am! Just sleep in the bus so that you can already roam around the city by morning. Hehe,if you can curtail the excitement!
This Baguio bus ride is about 6 to 7 hours. Though it is quite long, it usually has three stops so you can eat and go to the comfort room.

A Few Biyaheng Baguio Tips:
  • It is highly suggested that you reserve tickets a few days before your planned trip. You do not want to have the worries of being a chance passenger, right? You can also choose where to sit inside the bus when you reserve your tickets.
The midnight trip to Baguio leaves at 11:30pm. One Valenzuela saw several chance passengers lined up.
  • For students, bring your ID on the day that you will reserve your ticket. You will get a 20% discount. From Php445.00, you will just have to pay Php356.00 after presenting the ID. No student ID, no discount.
Fare rate at Caloocan terminal. When One Valenzuela's family reached their terminal in Baguio, they immediately bought return tickets.

  • Kids below 1.3 meters are free as long as they sit on the lap of their parents/accompanying adult. But since this ride is quite long, One Valenzuela suggests that you just pay the discounted student fare to avoid cramps.
Little One Valenzuela is already above the 1.3 meter mark. You're growing too fast, babe!
  • In most travels, One Valenzuela recommends that you travel light. For Baguio trips, bring a jacket and a foldable umbrella. By experience, sometimes there’s a drizzle up there during Ber months. And, oh, do not forget to bring a foldable bag for pasalubong!
  • If you plan to visit PMA, wear shoes. Slippers are not allowed.
