On April 5, 1994, Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain committed suicide by shooting himself with a shotgun. The 27-year old is remembered by his wife, Courtney Love, and their daughter, Francis Bean Cobain.

In 1932, just months after marrying Jean Harlow, MGM executive Paul Bern committed suicide by shooting himself. He reportedly left a suicide note which read, "Dearest Dear: Unfortunately this is the only way to make good the frightful wrong I have done you and to wipe out my abject humiliation. You understand that last night was only a comedy."

On May 28, 1998, Brynn Hartman shot and killed her husband, SNL actor and comedian Phil Hartman. Later that day, she took her own life. The Hartmans left behind two children in the tragedy.

In 1976, Jackson Browne's wife, Phyllis Major, committed suicide by overdosing on barbiturates. He wrote the song "Sleep's Dark and Silent Gate" about her death.

Author Carson McCullers had a suicide pact with her husband, Reeves McCullers. She decided to prioritize her own health and went the the U.S. while he remained in Europe. Reeves committed suicide by taking an overdose of sleeping pills in 1953.
