MULAN: Matchmaker

Mostly, Disney is the apex of achievement in animation art. Take for example these incredibly lovely backgrounds from MULAN.

In this first B/G, notice the play of light through the window, onto the wood floor, and the delicacy of the floral pattern on the fabric draperies. Not to mention the artful array of leaves in the potted plant:

This digitally recreated pan B/G is beautifully composed.

In this last piece, notice the weight of the fabric and the play of light across it, and the artful color palette, very restrained with the striking exception of the chinese red woodwork!

More from MULAN: The Asian Garden

Here are four more lovely pieces of background art from MULAN. In her backyard is a little prayer temple and gorgeous Oriental garden.

First, an unassuming view of the prayer temple entryway (exit view). Notice the lovely, inspired colors of the sky.

Next, the front of the prayer temple. I was able to digitally remove Mulan's father but her dog "Little Brother" remains.

This is a re-created pan, up the hill...

And finally, an incredibly lovely re-created pan of Mulan's garden and pond.

A glimpse of Mulan's gardens. I was able to digitally remove Mulan, running down the stairs, but Father stood firm!
