Children's Crafts Fair, 2013

This was our fourth year for my granddaughter to sell her crafts at the Children's Craft Fair held at the Los Osos Library.  In the past I found myself helping to make the crafts a little too much--this year I really did take a good step back from doing this--I did help, but it was within reason.

We sold amulets with an assortment of interesting pebbles to choose from.

Barbie dresses made from old T-shirts...

I love her little drawings!

We grew Nasturtiums, made rose peddle beads, but the sifted compost didn't sell at all.

We made rose oil and bottled it for putting together a love spell, which also involves a rose thorn and a candle.

We sold most of these love spell kits.

Portraits

Our pressed flowers just about sold out--it was a good fair--lots of fun!

Children's Craft Fair

This past summer, I had so much fun helping my granddaughter make crafts, then setting up a table!
I was a sort of task master--each day I would have her draw so many clothespin dolls, another day I'd set out the acetate for the pinwheels for her to decorate with large paint markers, and so on for a few weeks.

Besides putting her "mark" on each item, she was the artistic director throughout all the decisions. I probably helped too much, as I'm apt to do, but what fun it was!

I started the table with two saw horses and a length of plywood. I set that up about a week before the fair, then kept adding to it--an awning would be nice--spray paint the table top--paint the bamboo--bells!--a table skirt, then cutting into the table skirt!----stop!

We sold lots of things that twirled--pinwheels, magic elastic button sting, and an origami paper twirly, mobiles. I never had a chance to even take a picture of our table set up at the fair site, but we were catching the wind left and right! I couldn't help twirling our table in the first photo--plus, I was having too much fun once again in photo shop!

A Few Things We'll be Selling on August 4th

Pressed flowers and a few other crafts we'll be selling at this year's Children's Craft Fair.  If you're in the area come by the Los Osos Library.  The selling starts at 11am, but come a little earlier if you can.
I'll try to take more pictures the day of the fair, but I may not have time--we'll see--and maybe we'll see you there!

Jumping Back a Month

We'll just pretend it's August---I almost forgot to post about this year's Children's Craft Fair!  Slap my hand!
I'm very proud of my granddaughter (on the right) and her friend's accomplishments in bringing this year's booth to fruition!  Maybe even prouder than all the previous years---I've talked in the past how I tend to get involved a little too much?--you might remember, here, here, here  here and here.  Phew!
This year everything was her's and her friend's idea--they got together for many weeks prior to the fair to cook their cupcakes and freeze them, make the frosting and even cleaned and washed dishes--they thought out all the details and then had a great day frosting and selling their fabulous mini cupcakes!

Four minis fit in a hand folded origami box with lid.

Awesome job!!!

An Andy Goldsworthy Moment

It was the evening before the Children's Craft Fair, and you'd think that we 'd had enough making of lots and lots of things. We stepped out to hear some free music at the San Luis Obispo Mission, but littered all over the ground were these purple tubular flowers which had fallen and were still falling from the nearby trees.
My granddaughter and I mindlessly made one circle while listening to the music and sitting on the fountain's edge, dum dee dum, and then she said it... "Wouldn't it be cool if we did this all around the fountain?"
In my mind our little mindless activity turned into, what? A job, an obsession?--I thought of Andy Goldsworthy and all the time he must have spent collecting objects of nature--how art really is obsessive, or can be. We started collecting--I wasn't bent on getting the entire circle completed, but it happened!

Of course more color was needed!

Then bubbles!
Later we saw a professional photographer taking photos of a couple--(maybe their engagement picture?) using the fountain and the flower rings as the setting.

Preparing

My granddaughter and I have been busy preparing for the children's craft fair--held on July 30th, 10:30am to about noon, at the Los Osos Library (for those of you who are in the area) Crafts for pennies or quarters, but very very affordable, ridiculously affordable for the amount of work involved--I've been my granddaughter's taskmaster, but I admit to doing quite a bit of the menial work--she is the artistic director. We'll be selling paper twirlies, magic elastic button strings, pinwheels, pipe cleaner dolls and a few other crafts. I'll post more about this with more pictures of the other crafts.

King Arthur's Birthday Party

I bought this little drawing at the Children's Craft Fair--I love it!--check out the magical pinata activity in the background!
