WDR 2 "Bienen live" - "Bees live" program with simulated bee vision video/images

Today about a program developed and aired by German TV and radio station WDR 2 streaming the life of three bee hives to the public and especially to kids, named "Bienen live" ("bees live").

In there will be some of my human and simulated bee vision images / videos in it to demonstrate how different bees see the world, able to see patterns which only exist in ultraviolet (UV) light, invisible for us humans.

Human vision and simulated bee vision BV HDTV videos shot in parallel of a Rudbeckia fulgida ("Black Eyed Susan") flower with pollinating bees:

All these shown flowers have a distinct UV reflection "bulls eye" pattern, its petals have a quite UV dark center (visible as green in simulated bee vision) and the outside part is quite UV bright around 365nm (visible as bright yellow in sim. bee vision). All this gets nicely visible in the photographs as well as in the HDTV videos.

Stay tuned, more will follow on that fascinating subject...

Black-Eyed-Susan - Rudbeckia fulgida: HDTV video in human vision and simulated bee vision

Today video shots of a famous "UV-flower" Black-Eyed-Susan - Rudbeckia fulgida in human and simulated bee vision. All shots were done at f5.6 in visual  videography and using my XBV filter for simulated bee vision. Lens was a UV-Nikkor 105mm quartz fluorite lens. Light source was sunlight.

I have written about that flower before HERE

Today more about UV videos, again using a Rudbeckia fulgida flower, but this time with two guests, an inspecting fly and a foraging Bumble Bee. This flower exhibit a very prominent UV bullseye pattern, which gets nicely visible in this HDTV video; before I had shown UV video snippets in May 2009 as a preparation for the filming of BBC's "Richard Hammonds Invisible Worlds".

[UV] street scene in reflected UV ultraviolet - HDTV video

Today again about UV videos, which I had already presented here and much earlier in May 2009 here. This here is a street scene as seen from my balcony in reflected ultraviolet light (320-390nm). The houses show interesting UV reflections, which I would like to present here in HDTV video form.

My UV shots on BBC's "Richard Hammond's Invisible Worlds" Episode 2

These are my still images BBC had chosen for their production of episode 2 of "Richard Hammond's Invisible Worlds". These are some of my earliest works which must have impressed them the most. Here again for your viewing pleasure ....

Sanvitalia ("Creeping Zinnia") in VIS + UV:

Rudbeckia ("Black eyed Susan") in VIS + UV:

Petunia in VIS + UV:

Potentilla recta ("Sulfur ´Cinquefoil") in VIS + UV:

Well, of course I feel honored that they gave me a chance to show my work, thus allowing the viewers of that series to understand, that there is so much more (beauty) beyond our very limited visual range!

Further on the technical side to contribute to the HDTV filming by finding suitable UV sensitive HDTV-cameras and suitable light sources, plus later then using my special lenses + filters for the actual filming of the scenes. That was all a great challenge but big fun working with such a professional team!

Richard Hammond's Invisible Worlds, Episode 2 on BBC iPlayer

BBC London has published now the second episode of "Richard Hammond's Invisible Worlds" on iPlayer and also on BBC HD for viewing.

Here the link to the video only viewable in the UK unfortunately. If you are on a server in the UK and you're away from home, you could of course use your Virtual Private Network (VPN) to watch, so you won't miss it...

This is the link to the HDTV version of it.

That second episode leads us to the world of ultraviolet light (where I have contributed), infrared and to the stars.

Stay tuned, more will follow on that fascinating subject...
