Patrick Augustine, assistant bishop of the Diocese of Bor, appearing at Living Word Church during return to La Crosse

From Wisconsin-

After 16 years presiding over Christ Episcopal Church, Patrick Augustine left the comforts of La Crosse last June to accept the role of assistant bishop of the Diocese of Bor.
After a summer of service work in sweltering temperatures and mosquito-riddled quarters, Augustine is grateful for a brief reprieve in the Coulee Region, and the support of Living Word Christian Church, where he will be prayed over this weekend before his return to South Sudan.

After nearly three decades of assisting Sudanese refugees, including helping settle thousands of the Lost Boys of Sudan in America, Augustine was summoned last May to serve the Diocese of Bor, consecrated last June in South Sudan.
With the appointment, Augustine committed to four- to six-week visits, thrice yearly, to aid the country as it rebuilds after its 2011 independence from Sudan as well as build relationships between the impoverished country and the United States.

During visit to La Crosse, top Episcopal bishop says nation can heal with power of love vs. love of power

From Wisconsin (If a survey comes up hit refresh)-

Delivering the sermon at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal wedding last month gave Episcopalian Presiding Bishop Michael Curry a much bigger pulpit, but his head hasn’t swelled and his message hasn’t changed — judging by his visit Saturday to Christ Episcopal Church in La Crosse.
Curry’s sermon at the May 19 wedding, broadcast live to millions of people around the globe, drew widespread praise for his impassioned plea for love of Jesus Christ and each other — widely interpreted as an admonition to restore civility to public and private discourse.

“I don’t think I said anything new,” Curry said during an interview before he participated in two events at Christ Episcopal, a congregation of 325 souls. “There’s something about preaching about love that has gone unsaid for a while.
“I wanted to say something, speaking to the couple, but with understanding for the rest of the world,” he said. “It’s part of my heart.”
The 65-year-old Curry, who was elected the first black bishop of the Episcopal Church in 2015, basically is the top official of the denomination in the United States.

Local pastor works to heal the persecuted church

From Wisconsin-

If Global Initiatives Week began with the goal of helping people think differently about the world, then the Persecuted Church event fit the mold perfectly.

As the week wound down to its last event, Liz Arnold stood at the church door pleasantly welcoming several dozen visitors. It had been an exhausting schedule, but for the director of Gundersen’s Global Partners Department, she was living out her calling.

“My passion is connecting people in La Crosse with needy people around the world,” she said.

This became evident as Arnold opened the meeting and told the audience that while “we hold all people in prayer,” this event would focus on the persecuted Christian Church – the world’s most victimized religion. More Christians have been martyred in this century alone than in the previous 19.

Historic chapel threatened with demolition

From Wisconsin-

A historic Episcopal chapel in Dunn County could be demolished if no one comes forward to claim it.

Once owned by the Episcopal Diocese, the chapel is on the property of Bundy Hall, a Menomonie mansion that spent three years on the market before being purchased for a retreat center.

The Buddhist organization that bought the hall uses the conference room for meditation, according to real estate agent Pat Sabota of Andale Real Estate.

They have no need for the chapel and can’t afford to maintain it, she said, so the buyers, Sabota and the Episcopal Diocese are seeking someone to move the structure off the property

Built in 1863, the chapel was later moved to Bundy Hall from its original home in Star Prairie in St. Croix County.

A shipbuilder and then-minister Rev. Peabody designed the building from wood and, to the best of a local historian’s knowledge, it is pegged together rather than nailed.

“The roof has a leak in it, but it could be easily restored,” said John Russell, who has helped with winterizing the chapel in the last couple of years.

From Eau Claire-

The Reverend William Jay Lambert will be consecrated as the sixth Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Eau Claire, on Saturday, March 16, at 11 am. at Christ Church Cathedral, 510 S. Farwell St., Eau Claire.

Lambert, rector of St. James' Episcopal Church in Leesburg, Fla., was elected Nov. 10, 2012, succeeding the Rt. Rev. Keith Whitmore who resigned as bishop in 2008 to become assistant bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta.  The Diocese has been led since September 2010 by Bishop Provisional Edwin Leidel Jr. former bishop of Eastern Michigan.  Eau Claire's Standing Committee served as the ecclesiastical authority during the period the diocese was without a bishop.

As a priest, Lambert has served congregations in Wisconsin and Florida.  He has also served on active duty in the U.S. Navy and as a U.S. Navy Reserve Chaplain.  Lambert holds a Master of Divinity degree from Nashotah House Seminary in Nashotah; a Master of Arts degree in history from the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga.;  and a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and public affairs from Rollins College in Winter Part, Fla.

The Most Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori, 26th Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church, will serve as chief consecrator.

Presiding bishop notifies Eau Claire of successful consent process

From ENS-

The Office of Episcopal Church Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori has notified the Diocese of Eau Claire that Bishop-Elect William Jay Lambert has received the required majority of consents in the canonical consent process.

As outlined under Canon III.11.4 (a), the Presiding Bishop confirmed the receipt of consents from a majority of bishops with jurisdiction, and has also reviewed the evidence of consents from a majority of standing committees of the Church sent to her by the diocesan standing committee.

In Canon III.11.4 (b), Standing Committees, in consenting to the ordination and consecration, attest they are “fully sensible of how important it is that the Sacred Order and Office of a Bishop should not be unworthily conferred, and firmly persuaded that it is our duty to bear testimony on this solemn occasion without partiality, do, in the presence of Almighty God, testify that we know of no impediment on account of which the Reverend A.B. ought not to be ordained to that Holy Office. We do, moreover, jointly and severally declare that we believe the Reverend A.B. to have been duly and lawfully elected and to be of such sufficiency in learning, of such soundness in the Faith, and of such godly character as to be able to exercise the Office of a Bishop to the honor of God and the edifying of the Church, and to be a wholesome example to the flock of Christ.”
