Oggi inauguriamo una nuova sezione del blog:
"Miti da sfatare (in cui credevo io stessa)".Nel corso della mia esperienza lavorativa come illustratrice, com'è ovvio, sono molto cresciuta e mi sono dovuta ricredere su molte cose.
Ma mai come in questo ultimo periodo quelli che credevo fossero dei miei punti fermi si stanno positivamente sgretolando in favore di inaspettate novità.
Cominciamo dunque oggi con lo sfatare i primi due miti:

"Myths to Bust ( that I believed in myself)."
During my working experience as an illustrator, of course, I grew up a lot and I had to think again about many things.
But in this latest period, like never before, those who I believed were some of my strong points are crumbling positively down in favor of some unexpected news.
Let us begin today busting the first two myths:
1) L'illustrazione commerciale è IL MALE

Esiste un tipo d'illustrazione commerciale dozzinale, di scarsa qualità e realizzato con mancanza di gusto nel colore e nel design, che di fatto rientra nei canoni richiesti da quel tipo di mercato.
E poi esiste la possibilità di prendere quegli stessi canoni, utilizzarli secondo il proprio gusto e creare qualcosa di fresco e universalmente accessibile, divertendosi un sacco.
Se questo è il male, che venga a me!
eng: 1) Commercial illustration is EVIL
It was a long time since I enjoyed so much working on a piece like I did with this illustration!
It is not.
There is a type of commercial illustration that's cheesy, of poor quality and made with a lack of taste in color and design, which lays effectively within the canons required by that type of market.
And then there is the possibility to take those same canons, use them according to your taste and create something fresh and universally accessible, having lots of fun.
If this is the evil, that should come to me!
2) I personaggi con gli occhi a puntino sono inespressivi

Ovvio, due personaggi che abbiano due punte di spillo al posto degli occhi e se ne stiano lì fermi come due stoccafissi avranno la comunicatività di un manico di scopa.
Ma gli occhi non sono l'unico punto forte nella comunicazione non verbale: un personaggio può parlare e dire molte cose anche e soprattutto attraverso il linguaggio del corpo.Guardate questi due miei personaggi quassù e confrontateli con questo mio vecchio disegno con gli occhioni, quale dei due character design è più espressivo?
Fermo restando che io rimango una sostenitrice degli occhioni disneyani, non sottovaluterò mai più l'appeal degli occhi a puntino!
eng: 2) Characters with dotted eyes are expressionless
But they know how to be super cute!
Obviously, two characters which have two pinholes for eyes and are standing there like two stockfishes will have the communication skills of a broomstick.
But eyes are not the only strong point in nonverbal communication: a person can talk and say many things also and especially through body language.
Look at these two characters of mine up here and compare it with this big-eyed old drawing of mine, which of the two character designs is more expressive?
Notwithstanding that I remain a huge supporter of the big Disney eyes, I will not underestimate the appeal of dotted eyes ever again!
