Theme-a-licious February check in

I'm a bit late with this check in, I caught a really nasty cold and was down with fever for a few days.
The January theme was flowers and gardens. I made good progress on 'Blackberry Plant' and 'Rue du Port' and also stitched on 'Mini Mystery Mandala'. The first two were started in January, there isn't anything green on 'Rue du Port' yet, but hopefully will be soon :) I stitched the garden gates on the Chatelaine piece, you can't see much progress as they were in a pale greyish blue color.

Styczniowym tematem Theme-a-licious były kwiaty i ogrody. Planowałam skupić się na 'Blackberry Plant' i 'Mini Mystery Mandala', ale dodałam jeszcze 'Rue du Port'. MMM to stary WIP, zrobiłam bramy dookoła ogrodu. Pozostałe dwie prace zaczęłam w styczniu.

Theme-a-licous and Donner update

For Theme-a-licious in January I should work on something with flowers or garden. I checked my WIPs and it turns out I only a few WIPs that meet the criteria. I picked two to work on - Blackberry Plant and Mini Mandala Mystery. Both are rather gardens than flowers but I think they still work :)

I worked on Blackberry Plant during the weekend and I am pleased with the progress. All I had before was the border on the top so I managed to get quite a lot done. My plan is to stitch on the Mini Mandala Mystery now.

W Theme-a-licious, zabawie do której się zapisałam, styczeń jest miesiącem, w którym mamy wyszywać hafty, na których są kwiaty lub ogrody. Przejrzałam moje WIPy i okazało się, że prac z kwiatami w nich lekki niedostatek. Zdecydowałam. że skupię się teraz na dwóch - Blackberry Plant i Mini Mandala Mystery. 

Z weekend wyszywałam Blackberry Plant i jestem zadowolona z tego,  ile udało mi się zrobić. Jedyne co było zrobione wcześniej to wzorek na górze, więc różnica jest łatwa do zauważenia :) Teraz planuję zająć się Mini Mandala Mystery.

 I managed also to get a bit done on Donner, he now has all four legs :)

Mój renifer ma już wszystkie cztery nogi :) 

WIPocalypse - January

In an attempt to actually finish something this year I joined the WIPocalypse. The details are on Measi's blog here. This year there are some optional discussion topics and this month it is to 'Introduce yourself, your projects, and any goals you have for the year'.

My name as you have probably guessed is Basia. I live in Krakow, Poland with my bf and our cat Stefan. I'm in my mid thirties now and most probably should update my Blogger profile LOL I work full time, I manage two different teams and even though I sometimes work really crazy hours I actually do like my job. I started cross stitching something like six years ago. I was really stressed and my mother said she always found stitching to be relaxing so I decided to give it a try. The funny thing is that my mom is not really a stitcher, the only time she stitched was when she was pregnant with me and my younger brother so I am a self-taught stitcher :) I also spend a lot of time reading and have a collection of plants like violets, streptocarpuses and hoyas, they are not easy to grow but the flowers make up for the difficulties.
My goals for this year are to finish the Crazy January Challenge designs and make good progress on some olders WIPs. I will put only three WIPs in WIPocalypse list and once they are finished replace them with new ones, this will make me feel like I am making  more progress and the length of the list will not bring me down LOL 


W ramach planu skończenia w tym roku większej ilości hafów niż w roku poprzednim przyłączyłam się do WIPocalypse. To zabawa organizowana przez Measi; wybiera się listę haftów i co miesiąc w trakcie pełni księżyca zamieszcza zdjęcia prac. Do zabawy można dołączyć w dowolnym momencie. Ja na swojej liście umieszczam prace, które chciałabym skończyć w tym roku. Oprócz tego w tym roku do zabawy są dodane tematy, które mają pomóc osobom biorącym w niej udział lepiej się poznać. Odpowiedzi nie są obowiązkowe, można zamieszczać tylko zdjęcia. W tym miesiącu jest to ' Przedstaw się, swoje hafty i plany na ten rok'.

Jak się zapewne domyślacie na imię mam Basia. Mieszkam w Krakowie z moim TZ i naszym kotem. Pracuję na cały etat, zarządzam dwoma zespołami i bardzo lubię moją pracę pomimo tego, że czasem spędzam w niej szaloną ilość godzin. Zaczęłam haftować jakieś sześć lat temu, mama zapewniała mnie że to świetny sposób na odstresowanie i postanowiłam spróbować. Haftu jednak uczyłam się sama; mama, która mi go poleciła, sama haftowała tylko kiedy była w ciąży ze mną i moim młodszym bratem :) Poza haftem dużo czasu zajmuje mi czytanie i moje rośliny. Mam sporą kolekcję fiołków, skrętników i hoi.

Plany na ten rok - skończyć to co zaczęłam, bynajmniej nie mam tu na myśli wszystkich moich WIPów, tylko te z Crazy January Challenge i postawić tyle krzyżyków na moich 'kolosach' (HAED), żeby było widać, że jest jakiś postęp.

One of my oldest WIPs, I think I started this in 2008. Last year I only managed to do some beading.

Jedna z moich najstarszych prac, wydaje mi się, że zaczęłam ją w 2008. W zeszłym roku wyciągnięta z szuflady tylko raz.

I started this last year and it is very close to finishing now.

This is one of Crazy January starts. I want to have more stitched ornaments so once this is finished I will replace it with another ornament.

Jeden z bieżących startów styczniowych. Chciałabym mieć więcej haftowanych ozdób, więc po skończeniu tej planuję ją zastąpić jakimś innym małym Świątecznym projektem :)

Najpierw Milady Blackberry, strona pierwsza już prawie skończona, zrobiłam też trochę strony 2 i 4. Jeśli się dobrze przyjrzycie widać sam koniec szpiczastego ucha :)




Next, the MMM1. I wrote about the problem with Silekn Perle before. Here's how it looks from very close:

I didn't like the effect so much that I put it away and now that I took it to take a pic I relized it doesn't look so bad from distance:
Odłożyłam ten haft, bo byłam bardzo niezadowolona z tego jak wychodzi backstitch przy użyciu Silken Perle. Teraz jak wzięłam go znów do zjęcia stwierdzam, że z lekkiego dystansu nie wygląda to tak źle:



Let me know please what you think, should I continue with the Silken Perle or order same color in Silk'n Colors and do it with one ply.
Dajcie znać co myślicie - kontynuować backstitch przy użyciu Silken Perle czy zamówić ten sam kolor Silk'n Color (jedwab) i zrobić kontur jedną nitką.

The Special Stitches Workshop (called SSW1 from now on) and the Needlepoint Heart Roseanne caller NHR from now on) groups started and I got the charts. There are 6 squares per week on the NHR!! There was a poll with options between 6-12, 6 won but I still think it's too much. I have no idea how will I be able to keep up, especially that I haven't even decided which colors to use. Plus I'm getting tons of emails from the groups, I'm barely able to read them all especially that in the Chatelaine support group there's Advent Calendar being released (1 part every day) and also there's Christmas bingo going on (I'm participating but so far I've got 6/8, which isn't too good).
There was a HAED Thanksgiving sale, I couldn't resist and I bought Rainforest, Qs Alice In Clockwork and QS Witchy Wendy. I'm tempted to start Witchy Wendy as it's very small for a HAED, but I have already so many starts for this month that I will wait especially that I want to start St. Hippolyte soon. Also there will be a new HAED SAL formula on the HAED BB - each participant will choose one chart (there's a choice of 4 charts) and get parts monthly. SO i have to start a new HAED in January anyway. I'm afraid that if I start the QS now I will have too many WIPs. There's so many lovely charts I wat to stitch and so little time - I definitely need to stitch faster LOL

Grupy, do których się zapisałam zaczęły się wczoraj i dostałam już wszystkie schematy. Special Stitches Workshop ( SSW1) nie wygląda źle, schemat do wyszycia w kilka dni ale na Needlepoint Heart Roseanne (NHR) co tydzień do wyszycia jest 6 kwadratów. Było głosowanie w grupie z opcjami od 6 do 12, 6 wygrało, ale i tak uważam, że to za dużo. Nie mam pojęcia jak nadążę, tym bardziej, że nawet nie wybrałam jeszcze kolorów. Dodatkowo zupełnie nie nadążam z czytaniem poczty, dostaję dużo maili z obu grup a dodatkowo na grupie wsparcia Chatelaine organizowane jest bingo i codziennie rozsyłana jedna część kalendarza adwentowego. Dostaję ponad 100 maili dziennie!
Na stronie HAED była wyprzedaż świąteczna. Oczywiście nie mogłam się oprzeć i kupiłam Rainforest, QS Alice in Clockwork i QS Witchy Wendy. Mam dużą ochotę zacząć ten ostatni schemat, jest bardzo mały jak na standarty HAED, ale na razie się powstrzymuję - mam już 2 starty zaplanowane w tym miesiącu i bardzo chciałabym zacząć St Hippolyte w najbliższej przyszłości. Poza tym w przyszłym roku będzie nowa formuła SALu HAED na BB, są do wyboru 4 schematy, każdy uczestnik wybiera jeden i co miesiąc wysyłane będą części. Tak więc będę zaczynać nowy schemat HAEDw styczniu i boję się, że nie nadążę ze wszystkim. Jest tyle ślicznych schematów i tak mało czasu - zdecydowanie muszę wyszywać szybciej LOL

Aeljot - postaram się dziś lub jutro dopisać drugą część - zupełnie zapomniałam o świetnych angielskich stronach wymiankowych, więc przy okazji podiszę o polskich zabawach. Tak w skrócie, to jak na razie wymianka była jedna, Stitching Sectet Pal organizowana przez Izę i teraz jest organizowany RR, ale jest bardzo nietypowy, bo wszyscy wyszywają to samo.

Update

Today was so cloudy and rainy that I didn't take any stitchy pics - promise to take them tomorrow, I hope the weather will be better.
I worked on MMM1 yesterday but today I switched to exchanges - I realized I don't have much time left ;)
I'm having problems with MMM1 - Martina charts are meant for 28ct and I chose smaller count, it was supposed to be 32ct but it's even smaller. I didn't have problems with cross stitches and specialty stitches (though I think rhodes and eyelets would look better on bigger count) but the backstitching around the gates is supposed to be done in Thread Gatherer Silken Perle, which isn't divisible, and it doesn't look too well on such a small count. It's variagated so I can't change it for anything else and I'm thinking whether I should order same color from Th Silk'n Colors and do the backstitching in one strand. I'll take a pic tomorrow and post it here and on Chatelaine BB and see if anyone has any advice.
At least I know now to use 30ct for the Specialty Stitches Workshop LOL
As there will be no pics I'll write a tutorial explaining English stitchy abbrevations for my Polish friends :)

Dziś była tak paskudna pogoda, że nie zrobiłam żadnych zdjęć, mam nadzieję, że jutro będzie lepiej.
Wczoraj pracowałam trochę nad MMM1 a dziś przerzuciałam się na wymianki - z przerażeniem zdałam sobie sprawę, że nie zstało mi zbyt wiele czasu ;)
Mam problemy z MMM1 - schematy Martiny są przeznaczone na tkaniny 28ct a ja oczywiście wybrałam drobniejszy splot - myślałam ze kanwa, na której haftuję to 32 a po przeliczenu wyszło, że to jakieś 33-34ct. Z krzyżykami nie było problemu, ze specialty stitches również (choć uważam, że eyelets i rhodes wyszłyby lepiej na 28-30ct). Niestety backstitch'e dookoła bram są robione Thread Gatherer Silken Perle - prześliczna nić, niestety włókno się nie dzieli i na tak drobnej kanwie nie wygląda dobrze. Jest cieniowana, więc ciężko mi będzie ją zastąpić czymś innym, chyba, że zamówię Silk'n Colors tej samej firmy w tym samym odcieniu. Zrobię jutro zdjęcie i zamieszczę tutaj i na BB Chatelaine i będę zbierać opinie.
W każdym razie do warsztatów użyję już na 100% 30ct.
W ramach rekompensaty za bra zdjęć napisze krótki słowniko/tutorial wyjaśniający angielskie terminyi zabawy :)

Small stitching update

A very small one as I didn't have time to stitch anything neither on Saturday nor on Monday.

My mandala is growing pretty fast, after I finish part 2 I'll have to put it away so it doesn't tempt me and start completing my October goeals - it's already half of the month and I haven't completed any of them yet. I really like the colors and it's already very shiny (lots of Treasure Braid) and it was very hard to decide which picute to post here but I decided on this one:



I've also picked up Spanish Mystery Sampler again - this one is stitching up much slower, I need to have really good light for it - it's on 28ct quaker 1x1 - which wouldn't be bad at all if it wasn't black. This is my first time stitching on black fabric and I guess it would be easier if I chose evenweave to get used to dark fabric. The progress doesn't look to bad - I did more last week than in 3 months time ;)



I'm completely hooked on the Secret Pal idea at the moment - doing some translations and setting up a blog for the international group. I'll post a link here as soon as it's ready. I would like to thank the people who decided to participate (only a few so far but I'm hoping the number will grow).

MMM1 - rhodes done, eyelets still waiting

My Mini Mystery Mandala is growing - I've managed to do all the rhodes stitchres and today I'll be learning how to do the eyelets. As there is over 30 of them I'll take breaks and stitch a bit on the SMS. I'm also very close now to finishing page 1 on my TT, I think it should be done after the weekend so then I'll take it home and take a pic of it.

Today is my day off and I finally managed to put all my DMC floss in order - well, semi order ;)
I'll have to get some floss for the Ocean Mandala, I'm missing some blues. What surprised me is that there's a lot of colors of which I have over 5 skeins and there's still about 100 colors that I'm missing. I'll have to take care of that next month - for this one my stitching budget it already used up. I ordered Jobelan for the Ocean Mandala, needles (I tend to loose them incredibly fast), Nymo for MMM1 - this is a list of the stuff I really needed. On the other hand I also ordered things I didn't need at the moment and it's all because of the lovely pics of Laura J. Perin designs I found on Carolina's blog. I fell in love with the colors of these designs and when I checked out Laure's website I just knew I have to give it a try. So I got the canvas and small bar frames and I'm planning to do one of Laura's freebies soon. If it turns out well I'll order some designs from the Impressionists collection.

Progress

I should have posted this much earlier but I couldn't find the cable for my camera. Anyway, here's my progress on GFG:




I managed to finish page 1. I'm very close to finishing page 2 now, I would have done it for sure if I hadn't stitched on pages 3,8 and 9. It's really hard for me to focus on filling these small gaps so after filling one or two I move to other pages where I have bigger areas of color.


On Wednesday I finally started my Chatelaine MMM1. I'm way behind as most people already finished MMM2 and the group for MMM3 started on Oct 2nd.
I love how it's stitching up and I'm very glad that I ordered the complete kit as it turned out that I love stitching with NPI silks. They're so soft and shiny :)))
I will move to part 2 after doing all stitching on part one as I have to order Nymo thread to attach the beads.

I'm stitching on a fabric I got on ebay - it was supposed to be 32 count but now after I measured my stitching at 35x35 and put it into stitch calculator it turned out that it's something between 33 and 34 count. I don't really mind but I was planning to stitch MMM3 and MM4 and I have enough fabric for just one more.

Unfortunately this is my uni weekend which means that I won't get much done - my goal is to finish part one by Monday
