Mixed Media Monday 2-3-14

This week, I'm featuring a mixed media card using some of the products from the Teresa Collins You Are My Happy collection.  When I started this project, I had a vague idea what I wanted to do.  This turned out absolutely nothing like what was in my head......and I LOVE it!  That, my friends, is the fun of mixed media.  It doesn't have to be thought out.  It can just flow....

Here's a close-up of a couple of the elements.  I used my NEW Wink of Stella glitter brush pen on those flowers.  They are so beautiful and shimmery.  This pen is SO easy to use and the shimmery goodness is fabulous.  You NEED one of these pens....and lucky you, you can get them at Cuttin' and Stampin' for a great price.

The recipe for this card includes
Teresa Collins You are My Happy Paper, washi tape, sticker and embellishments
UmWow Studio Miniature Heart Polaroid Chip
Unity Stamp Company Lovely Little Wings Stamp
Tim Holtz Distress Stain in Brushed Pewter
Tim Holtz Distress Inks in Victorian Velvet and Dried Marigold
Tim Holtz Layering Stencils
Copic Pen (R02)
Wink of Stella glitter pen (clear)
Ranger Glossy Accents
Ranger Distress Crackle Paint

Karen

Mixed Media Monday - 1-6-14

Hello Everyone.  I'm SO excited to introduce this new weekly feature on the Cuttin' and Stampin' blog.  Mixed Media Monday's.  There's been a lot of interest in all the new types of things to create with on the market and we want to encourage you to use them.  This first week we have Karen Nofziger of Craftily Yours to inspire us.

Flick of the Wrist

SO excited to be on the Stampin' and Cuttin' blog today with my very first Cuttin' and Stampin' design team post!  I'm super honored to have been picked for the mixed media team.  I love playing with paints, inks, sprays, pastes, paper, ribbons, twine, and on and on!  For my first post, I want to appeal to all of you card-makers to try your hand at mixed media.  It's seriously so fun because there are no mistakes.  It's just letting loose and letting your creative self come out.

I thought I'd try to do a tutorial on my first post of each month, so here goes....  First, I cut a card base (5.5 x 8.5 in) out of white cardstock and folded it in half.  I cut mats from Stampin' Up Riding Hood Red  (4 x 5.25 in) and Not Quite Navy (3.75 x 5 in) and another piece of white (3.5 x 4.75 inch).  I took the white mat outside and used Dylusions Bubblegum Pink, Calypso Teal and Lemon Zest Sprays. I unscrewed the tops and simply did a flick of the wrist.  I love the random spots.   Yes, that is grass in the picture.  I have to go outside because this can be somewhat messy!

I punched a couple hearts from some Tattered Angels mistable papers.  I sprayed one with Calypso Teal and the other with Bubblegum Pink.

I layered up the mats and the hearts on the paper and tied some Timeless Twine around the white mat.  Yes, that is a perfect triple bow of Timeless Twine.  (I have a bow-maker!)  Finally, I added a sentiment some Candi dots (that I colored with Copic Markers).

And Voila!

I love how it turned out!  Thanks for checking out my mixed media project!  Let me know if you decide to flick your wrists!!  We also want you to let us know what you think of our new feature and what other media types you would like to see us use.

Craftily yours,

Karen
