Wings and a Prayer

When I drop dh at the airport, as I did yesterday, I usually stop at Homegoods on my way home. I stroll around the aisles and almost aways find a treasure or two at bargain prices.
This lovely cream matelasse coverlet, made in Portugal, was on the linens clearance shelf marked down from $80 to $30. It will take the place of the white one in the guest room as it looks older.......and more French!
China - impossible to get through that section of this great store without buying something for daily use or to add to a growing collection ~ such an amazing selection, great prices! A pink transferware plate to add to my little collection, a beautiful cream glazed edge cake stand, also from Portugal, which will be used to display more than food sometimes!

In the garden section I fell head over heels for this elegant angel. Rather than tuck her in the garden ~ she's so delicate ~ I've placed her on my dressing table for now ~ she brings such a sense of peace.

I think she looks right at home next to the mica star.
Let your arms enfold us
Through the dark of night
Will your angels hold us
Till we see the light

  1. Well Mary! You really had a bargain day on your way home from the airport. I love it all and don't know where to start. The coverlet is just perfect. I have searched for them or a latte color whole cloth quilt lately to no avail. I think you angel is just so precious. I agree that she is great staying indoors to watch over you. I keep my garden statues indoors and just love them. The creamware cake stand is so pretty and I will look forward to seeing something fun or yummy displayed on it. A cloche would look so pretty sitting on it too. I did not know you collected red and white transferware? I have one plate and love it. I use it to serve cookies or pastries and it was a thrift shop find.

Thank you for your comments about the silhouettes. I had fun creating them and can't wait to find some more black frames. I really think they look best when there is a whole grouping of them together. I need a few gentlemen to keep the ladies company, don't you think?

    Hugs ~

  5. Mary: I am a fairly new visitor to your blog. I don't even remember how I found you - but the reason I keep coming back to visit is your wonderful way with words and your awesome photos!

    Thanks!

    Sara
P.S. May I inquire what type of camera you use?

  6. Sara, thanks for stopping by and leaving such a kind comment. I see you don't have a blog so am replying here.
My camera is just a Canon A540 digital (6 pixels/4X optical zoom), so nothing fancy. I enjoy using it because it's small and light, but has a large screen and the buttons are manageable for my large hands!

Hope you stop by often - I'll try to keep things interesting and pretty!

  11. Oooh! I love bargains and pretty treats. The angel is very peaceful, and I wouldn't have been able to resist the cake plate. My mother has a lovely collection of red transferware. The coverlet was the bargain of the century! Beautiful, and it does look elegantly old. Perfect XXX

  19. I love that angel. She is way better off in the house where you can enjoy her everyday. I sure would not put her outside. I never heard of that store, but it sure sounds neat. Very nice things your found.

  20. Mary, I love Home Goods and the china area is the first place I visit, when I'm lucky enough to go to HG.

The coverlet is perfect and so is the angel!

I just now saw your Wren post. I had a wreath on the front door a couple of years ago. A Wren built a nest in it. We could see it through the glass in the door. Was wonderful watching the progress. We had a tiny birdhouse on the back porch fireplace shelf, last year. A Wren made it her home. We need to put the little house back on the shelf, for her.

    Great posts as usual!

  21. Mary,
What a fruitful visit to this Aladdin's Cave. Your angel spoke to me immediately. She tells me she feels right at home next to the star :>) I fell in love with her, of course.

I love these transferware plates and have several in my favourite pink, they used to be so easily available but are much pricier now. Many of my husband's family worked in the pottery factories that made these plates - is it Johnson's Bros?
    Hugs, Angela

  25. She is a very nice angel. She would go well in my angels/white garden display on the window seat in my dining room.

  26. Angela - hope you read this, I don't know how else to get in touch with you! Yes it's Johnson Bros. and the picture is of Chatsworth. Always wanted to visit there as I know it's a fabulous estate.

    Glad you're back.
