The career criminal charged with slashing a woman on her way to work in Chelsea was on the streets because a judge ­ignored warnings that he’s a “high risk” defendant and sprung him without bail on an earlier ­assault, The Post has learned.
Kari Bazemore is also suspected in yet another attack on a Bronx woman after Manhattan Judge Laurie Peterson set him free on Dec. 31.
“She screwed up big time,” a court source said of Peterson, who has a reputation among courthouse regulars for being smart and fair. “Was her head in the sand that day or something?”
Bazemore, 41, who has more than 30 prior arrests, appeared before the Mayor de Blasio-appointed jurist on charges he slugged a woman in Greenwich Village as she walked with her husband on Dec. 30.

Kari Bazemore, 41, was charged Thursday night with a third assault, and has been linked to two more attacks since the end of September, sources said.

According to the newest charges, he struck a 43-year-old victim in the face with a heavy shopping bag as she stood on Fifth Avenue in Midtown on Nov. 4.
Cops have also linked him to a Sept. 29 attack on a 25-year-old salon worker and her 28-year-old friend as they were walking on East 174th Street near Walton Avenue in The Bronx, police sources said.
They had just left a subway station with a third friend, when the 25-year-old victim noticed a man in a gray hoodie running straight at her, police sources said.
The man then smacked the right side of her head with a bottle in a plastic bag, calling her a “white bitch.”
Her 28-year-old friend was injured as she tussled with the bottle-wielding man, who continued screaming, “Bitch!” at her, police sources said.
He is also expected to be charged in the slashing of Nicole Pagliaro, 28, who needed 150 stitches after she was attacked outside of her apartment building on Jan. 1, sources said.
Less than a week later, he was arrested for slashing 24-year-old Amanda Morris’ face as she walked to her job at a Whole Foods in Chelsea.

Nikki Pagliaro was just 20 yards from her front door when the unthinkable happened.
She had been aware of footsteps behind her and hurried her pace. Now the man had rounded on her and was standing in front of her.
He told her not to worry; he wasn't going to hurt her. And then he lunged. Without warning or motive he slashed her face and disappeared into the night.
It is exactly one week since Nikki, 28, became a victim of the New York slasher on January 1 - just a day after he had been freed by a judge, even though the court knew about his appalling arrest record.
Now in an exclusive interview with Daily Mail Online, she has relived the ordeal, told of her relief at her attacker's arrest on Wednesday and shared her fears this could happen again.

Barack Obama and the Defense of Marriage Act is a glaring example. DOMA was the law of the land, but Mr. Obama's Justice Department refused to enforce the law, and the Department was the only agency responsible for its enforcement.

Governor Mike Huckabee's response is creative and shocks the automated thinking of jurists. Mr. Huckabee is pointing out that Kim Davis should not have been held in contempt of court because there is currently no law a court could order her to obey. Mr. Huckabee asks the question: under what law does Kim Davis have authority to issue same-sex marriage licenses?
The argument is legally valid. The judiciary's role is to decide individual disputes between parties. The courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court, do not write laws. The legal system sort of operates under the mistaken notion that all High Court rulings somehow automatically become the law of the land.

The United States Code, Section 455, states that "[a]ny justice, judge, or magistrate judge of the United States shall disqualify himself in any proceeding in which his impartiality might reasonably be questioned." The law continues: "He shall also disqualify himself in the following circumstances: (1) Where he has a personal bias or prejudice concerning a party ..."
Justices Elena Kagan and Ruth Bader Ginsburg had, prior to sitting and voting on the same-sex marriage case (Obergefell v. Hodges, 2015), officiated same-sex marriages.

If Kagan and Ginsburg had followed the law of the land, same-sex marriage would not be the "law of the land."
The Court's ruling is not valid for that reason alone. State governments may reasonably consider the ruling void ab initio.

Instead of agreeing that same-sex marriage is "the law of the land," conservative candidates might want to remind reporters that 30 states went through the arduous process of amending their constitutions to protect their time-honored definitions of marriage.

One sample question from the test asked prospective educators to identify the mathematical principle of a linear relationship when given four examples; another asked them to read four passages from the Constitution and identify which illustrated checks and balances. Besides factual knowledge, the test also checks basic academic skills, such as reading comprehension and the ability to read basic charts and graphs.
Nevertheless, this apparently neutral subject matter contained an insidious kernel of racism, because Hispanic and black applicants had a passage rate only 54 to 75 percent of the passage rate for whites.

Minorities who failed the exam (who number in the thousands) may be owed years of back pay totaling millions of dollars, and those who were relegated to substitute teaching jobs could be promoted to having their own classrooms. In addition, while Wood’s ruling only applies to New York City, the test was used statewide, and it could serve as a precedent for further lawsuits.
The ruling could also pave the way for another ruling finding New York’s current teacher test, the Academic Literacy Skills Test (ALST), to be discriminatory as well. That test is even harder than LAST-2, with a strong focus on literacy skills such as writing and reading comprehension, and like LAST-2 it has a very large gap in scores between whites and minorities. A lawsuit, once again being heard by Wood, is already pending, with the plaintiffs arguing that there is no clear evidence strong literacy skills are essential for a teacher.

Mayor Bill de Blasio delivered another blow to New York’s Finest on Wednesday when he reappointed a Brooklyn judge who freed without bail two men who threatened cops just days after the Bed-Stuy double police assassination.
The stunning decision came even as one of the suspects — a gang member charged with posting police death threats online — skipped a court date and had a warrant out for his arrest, sources said.
Brooklyn Criminal Court Judge Laura Johnson had faced a midnight expiration of her term. She was appointed by then-Mayor Mike Bloomberg in January 2013.

In this brief news report at least four misguided beliefs about psychiatry are expressed. First is the screaming headline which describes a human being as a disease. It is a way of dehumanizing people, as when police call suspects dirt bags. Next is the mother's disbelief that her son could kill her husband, his father. Blaming it on a disease makes it OK, and excuses the actions of her son. She said, "If I believed anything other than mental illness caused this, I wouldn't lift a finger to help him." Contrary to pervasive beliefs there is no evidence that any mental illness causes violence or crime. The most tortured example of cognitive dissonance is from the judge saying, "I believe that the defendant was guilty of intentional murder," the judge said, "but I strongly believe that the defendant's actions on July 19, 2010 were the direct result of mental illness." If it is the direct result of mental illness then mental illness not the defendant, caused the violence. The final example of media distortion is the omission of whether the defendant was taking psychiatric drugs which are a known cause of violence and suicide. Drug company propaganda has journalists, judges, and the public confused so they ignore the fact that their drugs are causing death and destruction throughout the world.

US Judge Believes Psychiatry Has Magical Power

This article indicates remarkable beliefs about psychiatry. First is that a US Judge believes that forced drugging can be used to "make [a suspect] fit to stand trial." These drugs are miraculous and have magical effects. Then there's James Cohen, Fordham University "psychology in criminal law" professor. Hello? Merging treatment with crime is dangerous. Medicalizing social problems is what the Nazi doctors did. Jews were vermin who needed to be exterminated. There is no appeal from a medical opinion. How can treatment be punishment? Cohen says the defense lawyers "think the medications actually disguise what's going on." That is what they do. Psychiatric drugs subdue they do not cure. In some cases they cause violence by people. The final laughable claim is that mental illness is hereditary. The drug companies will say anything to try to make their illnesses real and to increase their client base.
