Violent Crime Increasing In Some U.S. Cities

This article does not mention that strict gun laws prevent law abiding citizens from carrying guns, which reduces violent crime. See John Lott's book, More Guns, Less Crime

[From article]
Violent crimes - from homicides and rapes to robberies - have been on the rise in many major U.S. cities, yet experts can't point to a single reason why and the jump isn't enough to suggest there's a trend.
Still, it is stumping law enforcement officials, who are seeking a way to combat the problem.
"It's being reported on at local levels, but in my view, it's not getting the attention at the national level it deserves," FBI Director James Comey said recently. "I don't know what the answer is, but holy cow, do we have a problem."
Americans have grown accustomed to low crime rates since a peak in the 1990s. But law enforcement started seeing a spike last year that has continued unabated. What's unusual, however, is that it's not happening everywhere. Chicago and Los Angeles are seeing homicides on the rise, but other places like Miami and Oakland are not.
Chicago, a city long associated with violent crime that plagues its poorer neighborhoods, saw six people fatally shot over the Memorial Day weekend and 56 wounded, ending a bloody month in a bloody year. May's 66 homicides - 19 more than May 2015 and 25 more than May 2014 - raised the total number for the year past the 240 mark. That's more than 50 percent higher than last year, and puts the city on a pace to easily surpass the 500 homicides it saw in 2012.
Perhaps more significant is the number of people who are being shot; well over 1,200 as of Tuesday, which far surpasses the 800 by this time last year.
[. . .]
Some say the splintering of gangs has created deadly rivalries, others say the disbanding of specialized police units has helped embolden gangs. Guns are pouring into the city - with police saying they've seized more guns this year (3,500) than any city police department in the United States - but courts also have overturned or gutted the city's once-tough gun laws.
[. . .]
"Quite frankly, trust has broken down between the community and police," new [Chicago] police superintendent Eddie Johnson said.
[. . .]
The reasons vary, Stephens said: Chicago and Los Angeles attribute much of it to gang-related violence, while others chalk it up to significant drug problems that lead to violent crime.
Some in law enforcement have speculated that a climate after the 2014 fatal shooting of an unarmed black teenager in Ferguson, Missouri, has made officers reticent about taking the steps needed to stop crime, but Stephens says that tough scrutiny on policing has always been part of the job, even if it's "more visible, more strident" now.
And even with violent crime outpacing past years, it's a far cry from the more notorious early 1990s when there were about 25,000 homicides each year. "We're nowhere near that level," he said.
[. . .]
[Indianapolis, IN] Police spokesman Sgt. Kendale Adams said last year's record homicides and the continued rise in killings this year is being driven by a multitude of factors, including the proliferation of guns, disputes over drugs and fights that escalate into gunfire.
"People want a reason, right? There's got to be a reason, but when we look at the data it's disturbances, it's drugs, it's even simple disputes on Facebook. It's very lifestyle-oriented, that's what the data is telling us," he said Wednesday. "Disputes that normally would have been settled through fighting are being settled through lethal means."

Murder, rape and other violent crimes have soared this year in major US cities
Chicago has already had almost half the murders in 2016 that it had in 2015
And LA has seen spikes too: murders were up by 27.5% in Jan and Feb
But Oakland and Miami are experiencing a drop in violent crimes
A study of 50 US cities and seven Canadian cities says crime is up overall
Experts are struggling to agree on the reasons
Some are blaming increasing numbers of guns and drugs
Others say cops are scared to act in case they're put on YouTube

Immigrant Suspect With Lengthy Crime Record, Shot Dead By Police After Shooting Death of Massachusetts Policeman

Policeman Ronald Tarentino, 42

This undated identification photo released by the Massachusetts State Police shows Jorge Zambrano, killed Sunday, May 22, 2016, during an exchange of gunfire with police at an apartment building in Oxford, Mass. Zambrano had been suspected in the shooting death of Auburn, Mass., Police Officer Ronald Tarentino during a traffic stop early Sunday morning.

Here's a thoughtful gentleman who regularly took time from his busy schedule to engage with local law enforcement encouraging them to practice their arrest and chase techniques. He resisted arrest to test them, and was convicted on at least two occasions. Though on probation and violating it repeatedly, judges never revoked his probation. His resident status was not clear. He is suspected of having false citizenship papers. As expected no one was watching this active business oriented gentleman. No police, psychologists or psychiatrists, no Communists from New York or New Jersey, no Harvard University campus police, no local police from Somerville, or Medford, MA, no FBI informants, and no crime family associates. They have higher priorities. For example, the above mentioned organizations and licensed professionals took turns for 45 years maintaining relentless surveillance, harassment, behavior conditioning, drugging without consent, psychological testing, character assassination, ridicule, humiliation, sleep disturbances, computer tampering, provocations of a 70 year old white male who they say is mentally impaired. They used this law abiding American citizen's personal journals to ridicule and to humiliate him for 40 years. They denied him basic rights and privileges enjoyed by illegal alien criminals and terrorists alike. Here is more evidence of a serious problem with the misguided priorities of government and how thoroughly they waste taxpayer funds and ridicule voters. It is not just a local problem. The White House National Security deputy, Ben Rhodes (brother of CBS News President), openly boasted of how he fooled taxpayers, journalists and voters to get the misguided Iran nuclear arms deal promoted in media. He explained that he is much smarter than voters and taxpayers. He joins Jonathan Gruber using government power to deceive Americans to their detriment. These government criminals are unable to comprehend why Donald Trump is so popular.

[From article]
The man police say shot and killed an Auburn police officer has a long history with drugs and violence towards cops, had repeatedly violated probation this spring and had been arrested just a week ago on motor vehicle charges, according to Worcester district and superior court documents.
Jorge Zambrano, 35, was shot and killed by police yesterday 18 hours after they say he killed Ronald Tarentino, 42, an Auburn police officer.
Zambrano was arrested last Monday when police noticed him driving a car with plates that belonged to a Nissan Maxima, not the Acura Infinity he was driving. He was pulled over and arrested without incident and charged with driving with a suspended license, driving an unregistered motor vehicle, and a number plate violation to conceal his ID. He was arraigned that day and let go on personal recognizance, according to court papers.
The Worcester resident has an extensive record and court papers show he had violated probation repeatedly this spring. A notice of probation violation and hearing filed in court states Zambrano tested positive for cocaine on April 11 and April 25, self-reported for cocaine on April 22, self reported for Suboxone use on April 11, missed a drug screening on April 8, and missed visits with his probation officer on April 4, April 8, April 11, and April 22. He was due in court for a probation violation hearing May 11, but the hearing was continued to June 9 because Zambrano said he needed to hire an attorney, records show.
He was also arrested in Worcester on Jan. 24 and charged with assault and battery on a police officer and resisting arrest.
[. . .]
Last year, in May 2015, Zambrano led cops on a high-speed chase when a police officer who knew Zambrano — and knew his license had been revoked — recognized him driving a car, according to court papers. Police followed him through early rush-hour traffic in Worcester and attempted to pull him over with lights and sirens. Zambrano stopped briefly before taking off and, according to the police report, drove at speeds “far greater than what was reasonable,” buzzing past the Rice Square School just after 2 p.m. — as it was letting out — driving an estimated 60 mph and “operating recklessly to endanger the public,” records show.
Zambrano damaged a Mercedes while he was fleeing, and police elected to terminate the pursuit, records show. He was charged with failure to stop for police, leaving the scene of a property damaging crash, and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.
[. . .]
Zambrano was charged with cocaine trafficking, possession with intent to distribute, three counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, two counts of assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, and a drug violation near a school. Zambrano’s case had dozens of evidentiary, status and motion hearings from 2008 until May 2011, when he pleaded guilty to numerous charges and was sentenced to seven years in prison, court records show. He was given 1,637 days — nearly four and a half years — credit for time served.
Zambrano was charged in May 2003 with cocaine trafficking, possession of a class D substance with intent to distribute, and driving with a suspended license. He pleaded guilty to the lesser included offense — possession with intent to distribute — and was sentenced on May 28, 2004, to serve one to three years in state prison.

A police officer was shot and killed during a traffic stop in a central Massachusetts town early Sunday and authorities are now hunting for the suspect, Fox 25 Boston reported. The murdered officer, Ronald Tarentino, 42, joined the Auburn Police Department two years ago after transferring from the Leicester, Mass., department, Auburn Police Chief Andrew Sluckis said at a news conference Sunday afternoon. Police surrounded a house Sunday afternoon close to four miles from where the shooting took place, and gunshots were heard as authorities deployed tear gas and a robot, The Boston Herald reported. State and local police surrounded the home in Oxford, Mass. and were using a bullhorn to tell the occupants to come out, the Herald reported. The murdered officer, Ronald Tarentino, 42, joined the Auburn Police Department two years ago after transferring from the Leicester, Mass., department, Auburn Police Chief Andrew Sluckis said at a news conference Sunday afternoon. Authorities have not yet released information about the suspect's identity. A law enforcement source told Fox 25 that police are looking for suspects out of Worcester, Mass. Tarentino leaves a wife and three children. The department “lost a dedicated and brave public servant,” Sluckis said, before announcing that no further details on the incident would be released at this time. Massachusetts State Police said the Auburn police officer was shot at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday. Auburn is about 45 miles southwest of Boston. Tarentino was rushed to UMass Medical Center in Worcester, WGGB/WSHM-TV reported. Auburn Police, the Massachusetts State Police, the FBI, and the Worcester Police are working together in the investigation, Sluckis said. State and local police officers lined up outside the hospital on Sunday as a police vehicle, escorted by a police procession, took Tarentino's body to the state medical examiner's office in Boston, where the vehicle was met by a large group of officers.

Judge Released Career Black Violent Criminal, Who Yelled "White Bitch" As He Slashed White Woman's Face

Kari Bazemore (left) has been charged with multiple assaults since being arrested in the slashing of a young woman earlier this week. Photo: Robert Mecea

[From article]
The career criminal charged with slashing a woman on her way to work in Chelsea was on the streets because a judge ignored warnings that he’s a “high risk” defendant and sprung him without bail on an earlier assault, The Post has learned.
Kari Bazemore is also suspected in yet another attack on a Bronx woman after Manhattan Judge Laurie Peterson set him free on Dec. 31.
“She screwed up big time,” a court source said of Peterson, who has a reputation among courthouse regulars for being smart and fair. “Was her head in the sand that day or something?”
Bazemore, 41, who has more than 30 prior arrests, appeared before the Mayor de Blasio-appointed jurist on charges he slugged a woman in Greenwich Village as she walked with her husband on Dec. 30.

The career criminal accused of slashing a woman on her way to work at Whole Foods on Wednesday is also suspected of striking a 25-year-old victim on the head with a bottle while calling her a “white bitch,” police sources said.
Kari Bazemore, 41, was charged Thursday night with a third assault, and has been linked to two more attacks since the end of September, sources said.

According to the newest charges, he struck a 43-year-old victim in the face with a heavy shopping bag as she stood on Fifth Avenue in Midtown on Nov. 4.
Cops have also linked him to a Sept. 29 attack on a 25-year-old salon worker and her 28-year-old friend as they were walking on East 174th Street near Walton Avenue in The Bronx, police sources said.
They had just left a subway station with a third friend, when the 25-year-old victim noticed a man in a gray hoodie running straight at her, police sources said.
The man then smacked the right side of her head with a bottle in a plastic bag, calling her a “white bitch.”
Her 28-year-old friend was injured as she tussled with the bottle-wielding man, who continued screaming, “Bitch!” at her, police sources said.
He is also expected to be charged in the slashing of Nicole Pagliaro, 28, who needed 150 stitches after she was attacked outside of her apartment building on Jan. 1, sources said.
Less than a week later, he was arrested for slashing 24-year-old Amanda Morris’ face as she walked to her job at a Whole Foods in Chelsea.

Victim: Nikki Pagliaro, 28, was just 20 yards from her front door on January 1 when she was approached by a man who said 'don't worry, I won't hurt you', when slashed her across the cheek.

[From article]
Nikki Pagliaro was just 20 yards from her front door when the unthinkable happened.
She had been aware of footsteps behind her and hurried her pace. Now the man had rounded on her and was standing in front of her.
He told her not to worry; he wasn't going to hurt her. And then he lunged. Without warning or motive he slashed her face and disappeared into the night.
It is exactly one week since Nikki, 28, became a victim of the New York slasher on January 1 - just a day after he had been freed by a judge, even though the court knew about his appalling arrest record.
Now in an exclusive interview with Daily Mail Online, she has relived the ordeal, told of her relief at her attacker's arrest on Wednesday and shared her fears this could happen again.

US Sen. Jeff Sessions On Sanctuary Cities

[From article]
Alabama Republican Sen. Jeff Sessions told The Daily Caller Tuesday that city officials that defy federal immigration laws could be charged with crime for not informing officials about felons the city is harboring.
“I guess you could make it a crime. I’m not aware that it is a crime, but they could be charged. There may be something in the code. To me, it’s just unthinkable — as United States attorney I had a bunch of cities and every day holds are filed. So many criminals have committed crimes in multiple jurisdictions,” Sessions said.[. . .]
“Convicted felons that have been previously deported and who were incarcerated under the care and control of a city, county, or a state—they have an obligation and their obligation cannot allow this so-called sanctuary city. San Francisco flagrantly defied any sense of responsibility for a known violent criminal,” Issa said.
[. . .]
“This disregarding of detainers and releasing persons that ICE has put a hold on — it goes against all traditions of law enforcement. Laws and courtesies within departments — if you have somebody charged with a crime in one city, you hold them until you complete your business with them,” Sessions said.
“The other city wants to charge them with an important crime files a detainer and when you’re finished, they’re sent to the next one to face the charges there. They’re not released,” he added noting that another city, which may be looking for the fugitive will have to go look for the criminal again and spend thousands doing so, while the fugitive may “murder somebody in the interim.”
Sessions explained, “So what was happening was, ICE authorities were filing detainers and sanctuary cities were saying, ‘We’re not gonna honor them. They finished paying for the crime they committed in our city — we’ve released them.’”

The 43-year-old sergeant was holding a tea and walked out of the store at West 125th Street and Lenox Avenue around 6:45 a.m. when a babbling man attacked, sources said.
The sergeant was in plain clothes when the crazed man — who was speaking incoherently to himself — punched her and knocked her to the ground, sources said.
Before she could react, he socked her a second time and then took off, cops said.
The suspect is believed to be in his 30s approximately 6 feet tall and 200 pounds. He was last seen wearing a blue jacket, blue jeans, and a baseball hat with orange, blue and white coloring, cops said.

Civilians Do Not Report Crime, Police Do Not Make Reports

The Justice Department report fits the pattern in Cambridge MA as well. I stopped complaining about felonies committed against me daily. The police arrested me when I complained in 1990 about police harassment then. Police criminals implemented a complete frame-up using cooperative lawyers, judges, court clerks, and witnesses. The pattern extends to the District Attorneys offices where they claim they are too busy. The FBI says they do not have jurisdiction and the US Attorneys say the FBI must investigate. The criminal justice system is used for show business, arresting, investigating selective crimes and victims. Racism allegations by graduates of Ivy League colleges are a higher priority than homicide.

[From article]
A new study from the Department of Justice says victims of violent crime often do not call the police.
And if they do, police often do not file crime reports, say local newspapers around the country.
“More than half of the nation’s violent crimes, or nearly 3.4 million violent victimizations per year, went unreported to the police between 2006 and 2010,” said a Justice Department analysis.
That’s 17 million violent crimes off the books in five years.

Skateboaders Are Law Abiding Citizens

Official comments about skateboarding show current government leaders have misguided priorities. Young people who skateboard are not criminals. They are not drug dealers or gang bangers. They are mostly clean cut energetic youth. Instead of focusing on harmless behavior the Mayor of Boston and his colleagues should look into the dangerous violent acts of all citizens and leave the law abiding alone. Police share the misguided passion of politicians harassing persons with disabilities and government critics. They fear criminals because they are violent. They pick harmless targets due to their own incompetence in dealing with real problems.

MA Gov Ignores Violent Illegal Aliens and Their Victims

[From article]

Illegal aliens have been involved in several recent high-profile cases:

[This is just in the Boston area.]
Marcelo Almeida, a Brazilian man, was arrested Monday after a 24-year-old woman was stabbed to death in Marshfield.
Cops arrested five-time drunken driver Eduardo Alementa Torres on a sixth OUI charge Saturday. Torres was living in Marlboro after a previous deportation.
Ecuador native Nicholas Guaman is charged with vehicular homicide while under the influence of alcohol in the August death of Matthew J. Denice, 23, of Milford. Guaman allegedly hit Denice with a car and dragged him a quarter-mile, according to police.
The bodies of a young mother and her 2-year-old son were found in a Dumpster in February, allegedly killed by housemate Luis Guaman, a native of Ecuador living illegally in Brockton, cops said. Guaman fled to Ecuador shortly after the crime.

Beware Government Uses of Technology

It is noble that citizens assist police in stopping violent crimes. What about fasle accusations? Henry Louis Mencken's admonition comes to mind. "First they pass laws against the sons of bitches then they use them against the rest of us." In this case police encourage citizens to share information with the government using new technology. At the same time Obama and his elitist statists promote restricting citizen access to information held by government bureaucrats. The Obama regime wants power to censor Internet communications. Police across the country are increasingly arresting citizens who videotape police activities. It is all OK as long as the police do not abuse their powers. But as a few citizens know police powers are often used for personal, political, and economic purposes contrary to law. What protects citizens from police criminal abuses and restrictions of access to government held information? Technology is amoral and historically is used for both good and for evil. Not all government activities are good.

[From article]
“The chief of police and I strongly believe that the more information conduits we have for people to give us tips on crime and pictures of alleged perpetrators, the more effective we can be in fighting crime,”
