Stress, Cortisol and Weight Loss
[From article]
They found that women who reported having one or more worries burned an average of 104 fewer calories in the seven hours after eating the meal than those who had none. Over a 12-month period this could lead to a weight gain of 11lb or 5kg.
The stressed women also had higher levels of insulin, which contributes to the storage of fat. To make matters worse, the authors say those who are stressed would be more likely to eat high-fat, comfort food.
Lead researcher Jan Kiecolt-Glaser, professor of psychiatry and psychology at Ohio State University, said: ‘This means that, over time, stressors could lead to weight gain.

The researchers do not know what happens to men’s metabolism and body weight when they are stressed.
They suspect the findings would be slightly different because they have more muscle, which means their metabolism is different. Other studies have found that stress causes us to eat more – particularly sugary, high fat foods. Experts say this the body’s natural response to a threat.

How stress can make a woman pile on pounds: It slows down the metabolism and
could add up to a stone in just a year
Worrying could mean you will burn off 100 fewer calories a day

The study, which has been published in the Journal of the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology, showed that it was 'low responders' who would adjust their eating habits and reduce their food consumption while plagued with stress, as well as increasing their physical activity.
'High responders', would instead continue with their regular eating habits and exercise would not have a great effect on their muscles, leading to rapid weight gain.

Relax, researchers may have found the key to weight loss... The body's response to STRESS could determine how effectively we lose weight
How our bodies respond to the release of stress hormone cortisol determines how well we lose weight
Low responders are more likely to eat less and increase physical activity when stressed
High responders begin to eat more while their muscles become slower at burning energy

City Government Medicalizes Social Problems
The Nazi government imposed restrictions on freedom using health as the justification. Jews were vermin and needed to be eliminated. Medicalizing social problems takes away freedom and Due Process Rights. There are no appeals from a medical diagnosis. Medical professionals especially the omniscient and morally superior psychiatric priest class seldom have any Constitutional knowledge or concern about laws that restrict their behavior. Scoundrels will use any justification in the name of good to do evil. This is one of many misguided government bodies who know no shame and lack common sense. It is one small step in the government assistance of the suicide of the nation. Notice that the business community is being consulted by the smartest elected officials in the city but ignore the will of taxpayers and voters.

Corn Syrup Adds to Obesity
[From article]
"Today, subsidies to crops such as corn total $19 billion a year. Corn subsidies total more than $8 billion a year.
[. . .]
High-fructose corn syrup accounts for 81 percent of the calories added to the diet of the average American in recent decades; US consumption of the substance rose 120 percent from 1991 to 2000. More significantly, it rose more than 1,000 percent from 1970 to 1990, far exceeding the changes in intake of any other food or food group. Over the same period, the average American's caloric intake increased by 600 calories daily."

Obesity Causes Hunger Causes Obesity
Obesity Causes Hunger Causes Obesity
[This letter was published in the New York Post]
It seems as if the public relations industry promotes crises to benefit the human services industry. ("GOTHAM'S LATEST NON-CRISIS," Editorial, New York Post, December 30, 2006) OMG there is hunger. We need more social workers. OMG there is obesity. We need more counselors.
The Wizard of Oz convinced the Mayor of New York (a potential candidate for president?) to fight obesity and hunger at the same time. Does it get any better than this? It's not just the legislature that gets so many contributions from the human services corporations.

Food-pantry photo-ops are a holiday cliché for most politicians - and certainly there has been no shortage of such officials around town lately, helping hand out food to poor folks. But surely they know quite well - or they should - that there is no hunger crisis in New York City. None whatsoever.
Now, rank-and-file New Yorkers can be forgiven for thinking otherwise, given the messages from City Hall these days. For starters, outgoing Human Resources Administration Commissioner Verna Eggleston, for the time being the city's top welfare official, recently bemoaned the fact that many HRA employees used soup kitchens and food stamps.
