Hamid Drake / Pasquale Mirra - Live In Italy 2013

One of the many collaborations between Hamid Drake and european musicians. This time Drake plays with Italian vibist Pasquale Mirra who have recorded more in various projects than under is own leadership. You can find him on Butch Morris Conduction® / Induction. (Rai Trade) It doesn’t mean that Mirra is an avant garde player. In fact this set is more inside and relaxed than outside and complicated. Original tracks and covers are in the program.

01/ Togo, 02/ Brown Rice, 03/ Afro-Blue, 04/ Piacevoli Pensieri, 05/ Mirra Solo, 06/ Water, 07/ Ishmael, 08/ Encore.

WADADA LEO SMITH & HAMID DRAKE "EMPTY BOTTLE CHICAGO 2001"

Here we have the first contribution of Correct Silence.
The following are his own words........

Wadada Leo Smith has often shared the stage or the studio in duet with drummers: Adam Rudolph, Sabu Toyozumi, Jack Dejohnette, Louis Moholo and Ed Blackwell. Here is a concert with Hamid Drake with whom Smith has played sometimes in various bands but never recorded officially.
I have no more details about the exact date of the show. (2001 Empty Bottle Festival of Jazz and Improvised Music on 21 April - see info by Joe in the comments)
The concert is complete, it’s an audience recording with good sound, sometimes there are silences or soft playing by both musicians.
I have decided to keep the material like it has been recorded, no editing has been done.
There are five tracks with no particular titles, the music is improvised.
Listening to this concert, the comparison that comes to mind is Ed Blackwell who’s style is close to Hamid Drake and it can be interesting to listen again to « The Blue Mountain’s Sun Drummer « .
A fantastic record in my opinion.

boromir, said
"We had our first new potatoes last night, variety Vanessa, which is pink-skinned. . One of the lettuces I've grown this year is called Australian Yellow Loose Leaf, and it's done very well. I have 2 main crop potatoes growing (Desiree and Picasso), which I will harvest in September (if the slugs leave them alone)"
b. 3 August 1955, Monroe, Louisiana, USA. Hamid Drake studied drums extensively, including eastern and Caribbean styles. In 1974 he began what was to be a long-term musical relationship with Fred Anderson. In the late 70s, Anderson introduced him to George Lewis and Douglas Ewart. His most significant percussion influences, Ed Blackwell and Adam Rudolph, date from this period. The latter, who was a childhood friend, became another continuing collaborator and they appeared together in numerous contexts, including Anderson's 1979 The Missing Link. Don Cherry, who Drake first met in 1978, was another continuing collaborator. Also in the late 70s, Hamid Drake became a member of the Mandingo Griot Society, appearing on the group's first album.
