Stempelglede DT - Magnolia Canvas

Good morning!  Today I'd like to share a canvas I created using Stempelglede stamps.  The inspiration for this canvas was the gorgeous Stellata Magnolia tree I have in my garden which was in bloom a few weeks ago.
Every year the sight of the beautiful flowers on this tree cheers me up after a long winter.  I wanted to see if I could recreate the flowers.
I was pleased with the results - what do you think?  I made them with coffee filter papers and Tim Holtz Tattered Florals die.
I have used several Stempelglede stamps.  The butterfly and crown are from the Vintage Baby stamp collection.
I have also used the Grunge Flourish Corner single stamp in the left hand corner of the canvas and the harlequin background stamp from the Backgrounds and Borders stamp collection.
I stamped parts of the Grunge Flourish Corner stamp along the bottom edge of the canvas too and added parts of the sentiment stamp here and there.
The sentiment is the Magic stamp.  So that I didn't lose any of the definition by stamping directly onto canvas I have stamped all of the stamps onto tissue paper and pasted them onto the canvas.
There are peeks here and there of the harlequin background too.
The branch for the magnolia flowers was created with florist wire and tape.
I used stamens from my stash in the centres of the flowers.
I added Gesso to the canvas with a piece of card to create ridges for an interesting texture.
I used some of the petals separately to give the effect of the delicate petals being blown from the tree in a spring breeze.
One curls delicately over the edge of the canvas.
I hope you like it and thanks for looking! x

Stempelglede DT - Giveaway and Challenge!

Good morning!  I have exciting news for you in today's post.  To celebrate that Stempelglede is now on Pinterest Gunhild is holding a fabulous giveaway and challenge on the Stempelglede blog!  The challenge is to create a project inspired by Gunhild's gorgeous mood board.  As soon as I saw the mood board I wanted to recreate the gorgeous weathered window frame and net curtain onto a canvas.  I began by painting the canvas with acrylic paint to create the dark background.  I then made a net curtain using cheesecloth and some lace from Live & Love Crafts.  Now for the glass.  I love the look of the frosted window pane in the mood board.
To recreate it I have used three different Stempelglede stamps and stamped with Gesso.  I used the Grunge Corner stamp from the Grunge Collection, the paint splatter background and the ornamental panel from the Background and Border collection.
To make the peeling, weathered window frame I used torn, wet paper and curled it around the window pane.  I inked the edges with Walnut Stain Distress Ink and added Picket Fence Crackle Paint.
The colours on Gunhild's mood board are just stunning and coincidentally, a lot of them are my favourite colours to use around my home!  I made a floral spray using flowers, berries and die cut leaves inspired by the colours on the board.  The large coral pink flower and the hydrangeas are from Prima, the rolled roses are by Kort and Godt from The Ribbon Girl.  I saved the berries from last year's Christmas crackers.
I have used the Enjoy Life stamp from the Follow Your Heart collection, stamped onto acetate so that it looks like it is stamped onto the window pane.  I have added a bark heart and a white poppy from Live and Love Crafts too.
The swirls were cut with Memory Box Donnington Tendril die and I have threaded them through torn areas of the paper window frame.
The butterflies are stamped with the butterfly from the Vintage Baby Collection onto coffee filter paper and tinted with Distress Ink.
There are two more butterflies fluttering around a Prima sentiment bulb.
The leaf sprays were cut with a Doohickey die.
At the sides of the frame I added some loops of jute string for visual balance.
I hope you have enjoyed your visit to my blog today and that you like my creation.  Good luck if you enter the challenge!  x

Home is Where the ♥ is

Today's project was a longtime entry on my 'To Do' list.  My good friend Debbie sent me a Twiddlybits kit to make a little house a couple of years ago and although I instantly knew what I wanted to do with it I never seemed to find the time to get round to building the house to decorate!  The recycled floorboard hanging 'frame' has been in my porch for a long time with some artwork on that I created a few years ago and gradually bits and pieces had been knocked off so, at last, I was spurred on to create something else to go on the frame.
The house was really easy to put together and then covering it in pretty papers from my stash was so theraputic!  The papers are London Market by Pink Paislee and were another gift from my friend Louise.  I fussy cut some of the elements on the papers like the birdcage and the roses around the porch roof.  I then added lace fascia board to the roofs.
The house didn't come with a door so I made one from some of the paper and a brad for the door handle.  I painted some bits of the house that were too fiddly to decorate with paper using Pickett Fence Crackle Paint.
The blue butterfly was fussy cut from the paper too.
A view of the side of the house.
In the garden I added some flowers and lace from The Ribbon Girl.
The sky paper is from Webster's Pages and makes the perfect backdrop for the house.  The pink rose is from Magnolia.
I made the cherry blossom tree from a Prima flower stem.
The 'home' sticker is also Webster's Pages and the rest of the words are Tim Holtz Chit Chat stickers.
I cut the heart with a Sizzix die.
Even inside the house is decorated with spotty pink paper :).
I hope you like it and thanks for looking! x

Gold Rimmed Teacups for Sketchy Challenges and PPP!

Good morning!  I'm so excited to share my latest artwork with you!  I have had a severe lack of mojo and haven't crafted for over a month!  (I like to work ahead, hence all the work you've still been seeing).  I think my month off has served me well though as I am so thrilled with this creation which went from idea to finished product in one evening!  It is a few days late for our new challenge at The Sketchy Challenges but better late than never, right?  Our sketch is a stunner this fortnight designed by our lovely Sabine.  I am also entering my canvas into Prima's Product Pick for August.
I am in the middle of a major re-decoration and re-furbishing project in my dining room and this little canvas is going to take pride of place on my new picture wall.  I just need to find a frame for it as I can see it nestled in an ornately carved shabby white frame.  To make the background following Sabine's sketch I have used triangular pieces of butterfly adorned paper from Webster's Pages which I have whitewashed with Gesso to mute the colours into the background.  I then added texture with some tissue paper which was also coated with Gesso.  A little stamping here and there with a Tim Holtz Flourish stamp and some Hero Arts stamps and the background was done!  Let's get down to some details.  I hope I don't bore you with all these photos, as always when I really love something I've gone a little overboard with them :)!
The first gorgeous little gold rimmed teacup was created with some gorgeous Prima paper which I was loathe to cut into but I think it looks just like a little china teacup pattern!  The paper for the saucer and the second teacup is also from Prima.
All the teacups have gold rims created with embossing powder.
The textured dots on the background are tissue paper balls covered with Gesso and I added a little snippet of Tim Holtz trim to the left of the teacup.
Here you can see some of the stamped flowers in the background, stamped with some Hero Arts stamps.
I am calling my canvas "Time For Tea", hence the gorgeous Prima clock and clock hands which I have also embossed gold as the black looked too heavy for my delicate china teacups.  The pink lily was a gift from my lovely friend Chelsea, thank you again :) and the lace for the bow is from The Ribbon Girl.
The handles have also been given the "gilt" treatment along each edge.
The third teacup was created from some Webster's Pages paper and is home to a delicate pink rose.
The hydrangea represents the circular element on Sabine's sketch (in case you cannot see the sketch in my canvas).  I adore hydrangeas and how each large flower head can consist of many colours of tiny flowers!  All my hydrangea flowers are from Prima.
You can see in this photo that the canvas is very 3 dimensional and the pieces protrude quite a way out from it!
The wooden butterfly is by Kaisercraft.
Another view just because I love it lol...
...and another!  I hope you like it as much as I do and I've inspired you to join us at The Sketchy Challenges.  Pop over to the blog to see the rest of the team's stunning creations.  Thanks for looking! x
