La difficulté est d'obtenir une homogénéité sur tout le plumage. Il faut éviter d'avoir un aspect de givrage trop lourd. Ce que l'on voit surtout sur le cou et le dos.

Ni trop peu, auquel cas, l'oiseau ressemblera davantage à un intensif.

Le canari non intensif a un plumage plus fourni que l'intensif. Et si l'on accouple trop schimmel x schimmel, on finit par obtenir des oiseaux présentant des kystes folliculaires (sur les plumes).

Donc, l'accouplement idéal est intensif x non intensif.

Ce canari rouge schimmel a obtenu 93 points lors du concours de Modena. Ce qui est un très bon pointage dans une série toujours très disputée.
