Blenko, RIP
It looks like Blenko Glass might finally be going out of business. It's sad, but life is constantly teaching us to deal with loss. Here's a piece I saw at the offices of HQ Publishing the other day.

Blenko Apple - Two Bites
This apple was in an office where I was working recently. When I had some downtime I took several angles because I was really interested in the way the daylight came through and the reflected in the wood. Here are two, which illustrate the way you can get really different images just by changing the angle a little bit.

It really does rain in Seattle
I'm here in Seattle for a few days and it rained cats and dogs all day today. We tried to do some indoor stuff. The Seattle Art Museum doesn't allow photography except for this silly lobby with cars hanging from the ceiling.
Had a walk through Pike Place Market.
Here's the Starbucks store number one:
I couldn't photograph the art in the museum, so here's a glass sculpture in the hotel.

Glass Ornaments
These handmade glass items were on display in an artisan shop in Wheeling, WV. When I'm travelling, I alway think that I'll get lots and lots of good blog photos but it usually happens the opposite. I'm busy and thinking about work photography rather than shooting stuff for the blog. I wish I had more stuff from my trip to Wheeling. There's a lot to see there... some good stuff but lots of crumbling Victorian architecture. It always makes me a little sad to see that.

Blenko Glass
From a recent trip to the Blenko Factory Store. Glass can be really tricky to shoot. You have to be aware that you aren't shooting light that's bouncing off of a subject as in most cases, but you are shooting light that's coming though the object as well as glancing off in specular hightlights. It's all very tricky but if you get your head in the right place it's a lot of fun. The apple is a carefully lit studio shot, but the last two were simply shot with the sunlight streaming in the store window.

Gold Rush
Is it the surface of the sun? ...
... it's a glass paperweight with gold leaf flakes floating in water. It's mesmerizing to watch. The Limoges chick nearby is apparently mesmerized.
