Mojo Monday 503

 photo Mojo503pic.jpg

I'm baaaaaack.   After a very busy past six months, I think my card making hiatus is over.  Living the sandwich generation is not easy or for the faint of heart....with older teens in the house and aging parents with health issues on both sides, it has been a very, very busy and exhausting time.  I had very little time to myself and absolutely no energy to be creative so reading a good book always won out.  Withe the dust starting to settle the past few weeks, when I saw Julee bringing back the Mojo Monday sketches, I was very, very excited and it was the perfect impetus to create a card.  I have always loved her sketches and they were the perfect jump start I needed to get crafty again :)

With Christmas a month away, the timing was perfect to make a Christmas card.   I have always loved this Echo Park Winter Time paper and these Reverse Confetti trees were crying out to be used.  I paired them with some dark brown and avocado green paper, a pop of silver and topped things off with some silver cording and two silver bells.  Happy sigh... :) :)

Viva La Verve Sketch December 2017

 photo VLVDec17pic.jpg

Today I have made a card for Viva La Verve's December sketch created by the sketch queen herself, Julee Tilman :)

I used one of the new Christmas digis recently released called Winter Peace.  Love the deer image in this!  I paired it with a sentiment form the same set, underscored with gold half pearls to draw your attention to it, and finished things off with a gold snowflake with a piece of bling in the middle for a little added sparkle against the darker papers.

Would love to have you come and play along for a chance to win some Verve!  Simply use the sketch and post it to the challenge and you could be the winner of a Verve set of your choice!   Perfect as a Christmas gift to yourself :)    Need some inspiration, just head on over to the Viva La Verve blog and check out the gallery and DT samples.

Have a fabulous day and thanks for popping by!

Curtain Call Inspiration Challege - Pines

Although today is the beginning of a new challenge, it is also the ending of the Curtain Call Inspiration Challenge....sniff, sniff....   The curtain is closing and we wish to thank each and every person who has participated in our challenges over the past 4.5 years!  I was shocked to see how many years we had been going as I didn't realize it was for so long - goes to show you how time flies when you are having fun!

I want to say a special thank you to Stacey Schafer who pulled this fabulous design team together in a week or less (she was a woman on a mission!) after she and Kim Singdahlsen were chatting one day and decided to start the challenge.  Thank you to Kim for all the behind the scenes work setting things up the blog and keeping us all organized for each challenge for several years.  In addition, a big thank you to Lisa Henke and Sheri Gilson who each took over the behind the scenes role of posting on the blog and keeping the team organized at various stages along the way.  It was an honor to have been asked to be a part of this amazing team of talented ladies, and I will miss both the design team and the challenges.

 photo CC15Dec17pic.jpg

I pulled out Verve's Pinecone Christmas for my card (kind of fit the theme perfectly LOL), and created a fun little square Christmas card.  I double stamped the pine boughs in two shades of green as the first colour was too light and am happy with the mix.  Added a few touches of gold for a bit of zip.  Thankful to have an additional Christmas card in my stash as I have been very delinquent in making them this year due to the insanity of 2017 (I am definitely looking forward to some fabulous family time, jammie days, sleeping in, puzzle making and reading over the Christmas break)!

For our final challenge, we have two guest designers as well as some alumni providing loads of fabulous inspiration!

Curtain Call Inspiration Challenge ~ Fa La La

Hard to believe we are at the end of another year of inspiration challenges!  Don't know about you, but this year has gone by so quickly, I am not sure it even happened!    Our final challenge for 2016 is a great opportunity to make a Christmas card in non-traditional colours, and that is what I did :)

 photo CCDec15pic2.jpg

I used some orange "graph paper" to tie in the square theme, added a pink Christmas tree as per the trees, some blue accents as per the cubbie colour, and a strip of gold as per the Christmas tree and fa la la writing on the wall, added a doily to dress things up a bit, and tossed in a snowflake just because I could {grin}.  Totally fun mix of colours that I wasn't sure about when I started but love together.

Hang in there during the final week before Christmas!!  I for one can't wait for some much needed down time after our very busy year.  With the kids getting older, and my mom in her eighties, I treasure every  moment we can spend together, creating family memories, and simply enjoying each others' company.  It's the best part of Christmas every year :)

Coffee Lovers Blog Hop

This year's Christmas Coffee Lovers Hop is on!  It runs December 9th - 16th and there are lots of amazing sponsors and prizes up for grabs.  Amy Tsuruta does a great job organizing these so I wanted to play along to support all her hard work!   You can find the sponsor list and linky here.  If you need a little inspiration, check out the gallery as it is full of amazing creations!

 photo CoffeeLoversHopDec2016.jpg

For my card, I used the freebie digi set Julee Tilman (owner and designer of Verve Stamps) has on her site right now - you can find the link to download the digi set here.  Offer only available until December 31st.   I adore her coffee/tea/cocoa sets - they are always full of fabulous word art and images.

This striped paper is so fun, but quite bold so I don't use it that often.  It reminds me of candy canes and since I love mint/peppermint I thought of a peppermint latte :)  I cut out the two coffee cups and added some red trim for a pop of colour to tie them into the red, black and white theme, mounted them on an embossed panel (aka: snow theme for winter), created a banner from one of the sentiments and added a red snowflake and touch of twine to finish things off.

We got six inches of snow yesterday and it was a beautiful scene to wake up to.   We do not get snow often being so close to the ocean, and when we do it often only lasts a day because temps warm up and it melts.  However, temperatures are dropping for the balance of the week so I think it will stick around for a bit - if it manages to stay cool enough for the next 12 days we could even have a white Christmas {grin} but that is a real stretch for us.

Have a fabulous day and thanks for popping by today!

Challenge deadline: Thursday, January 5.
Prize: $30 gift voucher to the Verve online store!

I wasn't happy with my first card (see below) so I created a second one using the darling stocking image from Jolly Jingles and matching Winter Friends die set.  The Happy Holidays paper from Echo park was a perfect fit and I combined it with this month's Viva La Verve sketch and lots of snowflakes {grin}.

 photo IHOPDec16picB.jpg

Below is my first card....keeping it real here!  My creative genes were having a hissy fit :(   I finally settled on using the middle stocking - the white one with the gold and brown strips up top and orange tassel.  Pulled in the green background as it worked well with those colours.   Quite the non-traditional Christmas card for sure - and somewhat on the masculine side so will use it for one of my male buddies.  Love this tree die from the Winter Fun die set (psssst - it is 50% off right now as it is a retiring set!).  The sentiment is from Weary World, and I added a scatter of sequins for "falling snow" an some gold twine as a finishing touch.

Mojo Monday #477

 photo Mojo477pic.jpg

It is the first Monday of the month and that means contest time over on the Mojo Monday blog!  A great way to have a chance at winning a Verve set of your choice as a Christmas pressie :)

In the spirit of December, I made another Christmas card.  Such a fun time of year to make cards.   Love giving a hand made card to a friend, or mailing one out to someone extra special :)

I started out with a piece of MME Holly Jolly paper and pulled in some colours from there.  Love using this PTI poinsettia die and it has been under loved this year so out it came.  Stretching the poinsettia colour range a bit with a rust one, but that is the colour I needed {grin} as there was some rust in the MME paper.  Used PTIs Holiday Wet Paint set and dies for the sentiment and threw in a snowflake for good measure (or overkill, depending on how you look at it lol).

All the challenge details are over on the Mojo Monday blog and you can also view all the wonderful Mojo Makers samples.  Should you wish more details on the Mojo Maker's cards, you can also visit their individual blogs noted below.

Got the house all decorated for Christmas so just have Christmas cards, wrapping and a bit of baking to do.  This month is always a blur and I am very much looking forward to having some time off over Christmas!

Speaking of which, this is the last Mojo sketch of the year!  With December being such a busy month,  and most of us short on time to get things done, the Mojo Monday team will be taking our Christmas vacation for the rest of December.   If you need a good sketch, or some inspiration for a card, you can always flip back through this year's sketches and galleries. Loads of goodness there!

We will be back on Monday, January 2nd with the first sketch of 2017.   Blessings!

Curtain Call Inspiration Challenge ~ Sweet

Welcome to December - meeeep!!!  This month is going to fly by and I am trying to get all my ducks in a row early in the month as Christmas is quickly approaching!  All the gifts have been purchased, house will get decorated this weekend and I actually have my Christmas letter done so I can work on sending out Christmas cards asap so they don't arrive after Christmas like they did last year.

CC Dec 1, 2016 photo CCDec1pic2016.jpg

I tripped across this fabulous card on Pinterest the other day and it fit the winter theme for this challenge, especially since I don't have any gingerbread man stamps.    Used Tag Time, Holiday Treats and the Curly Bookplate die by Verve and added a big old snowflake once again - my favorite winter accessory {grin}.

I am actually hoping we do get a bit of snow this year - as there is something so soothing about watching snow fall and then seeing everything covered in a spotless, white blanket before it gets messed up by kids, cars and the like.  Plus I simply adore seeing the deciduous trees outlined with snow and the sparkling snow when the sun hits it :)   Think it brings back many wonderful memories of our skiing years as a family, and having hot chocolate after a hard day on the slopes.

Mojo Monday #476

 photo Mojo 476 pic.jpg

Trusting all my American followers had a great Thanksgiving, and if you braved the crowds on Black Friday, hope your shopping was successful!

I love square sketches!  There is just something about them that appeals to me - maybe I am a bit square myself {grin}!   Actually, I think it is the fact that it is a nice, compact space that easy to fill and is nicely balanced as all sides are equal.  Whatever the science behind it, I love them!

I combined two wonderful Christmas sets:  Glad Tidings (think it may have been Verve's first Christmas set - an oldy but a goody!) and Angel Voices (newly released this year) and its matching Angelic Die Set.    Twinkling H2Os were my colouring medium and I just adore the sentiment font!

All the challenge details are over on the Mojo Monday blog and you can also view all the wonderful Mojo Makers samples.  Should you wish more details on the Mojo Maker's cards, you can also visit their individual blogs noted below.

Hard to believe Thursday is December 1st!!  Oh my!!  Going to be a busy month, but thankfully I have been good at getting quite a few things done in November to help ease the stress a bit so I can enjoy the season :)   That being said, I am definitely looking forward to time off over Christmas!  Jammie days, puzzles, reading, sleeping in, hanging out as a family watching movies, playing games and just enjoying each others company...priceless :)

Have a fabulous week and look forward to seeing your creations in the gallery!

Mojo Monday #475

 photo Mojo 475pic.jpg

I was giddy and totally gone when I saw the snowflake on this sketch!  If you have followed me for any length of time, you know that "joy" is my favorite Christmas word and snowflakes my favorite accessory.  Just. Love. Them!!  Was a total no brainer to use one on my card - my rubber arm was waving in the breeze {grin}.

Pulled out some of my hoarded Lost and Found MME Christmas papers (got them quite a few years ago and still love them!) and kept to a neutral pallet except for the red snowflake, scatter of green sequins and a green button.    Added some sponging to highlight the sentiment panel and was tempted to add an angle where the snowflake is but couldn't make the paradigm shift LOL!

All the challenge details are over on the Mojo Monday blog and you can also view all the wonderful Mojo Makers samples.  Should you wish more details on the Mojo Maker's cards, you can also visit their individual blogs noted below.

Had a few proud mommy moments this weekend.  My son was selected to be an assistant ref for three of the finals games for the HPL (high performance league) soccer finals.  He is rubbing shoulders with some pretty high level refs and did a great job on the lines.  He has been very committed to learning and applying all he can as a ref and assistant ref, and when you combine that with a lot of natural ability, the powers that be have taken notice and rewarded him.  Made standing in line on a cold Friday morning to get two pairs of new soccer cleats 50% off for him well worth it :)   Have a fabulous week and look forward to seeing your creations in the gallery!

I used this week's Viva La Verve sketch for my card along with this wonderful sentiment and image from Beyond Measure.   Love using this earthy colour pallet for Christmas cards!   I wanted my doily to fit across the card so I cut it in half to make it bigger.  Shadow stamped the wise men image under the sentiment and added a gold half pearl to the star to tie in with the gold twine.

Want to win some shiny new Verve? One lucky comment from all of the stops along today's hop will be randomly selected to win a $40 gift voucher to Verve! To be entered in the giveaway, comment on each of the stops below. Comment deadline for the prize drawing is Monday, November 28.

Mojo Monday #474

 photo Mojo474picB.jpg

It was a gloomy, rainy day here when I created this card, and after looking at the calendar, I was reminded that Christmas is quickly approaching!! Sorry....I said the "C" word!!   With that on the brain, I continued on my Christmas card binge.

Love this shimmer paper from the dollar store -- how did we survive without them??!!  Snowflakes are my favorite winter "shape/accessory" for cards so you didn't have to twist my arm at all for me to bust out a snowflake die.  A sparkly, silver snowflake paired with red and blue made my heart sing.

All the challenge details are over on the Mojo Monday blog and you can also view all the wonderful Mojo Makers samples.  Should you wish more details on the Mojo Maker's cards, you can also visit their individual blogs noted below.

This weekend was also a bit on the stressful side as I have quickly come to realize that teaching my son to drive is a very different experience than it was teaching my daughter to drive!  Oh my....several white knuckle moments in one outing (he drove us to Costco), and my daughter who was sitting in the back seat was a bit on the pasty white side too!  Not for the faint of heart LOL!

Viva La Verve November Sketch 1 Recap

VLV Nov 2106 Wk 1 photo VLVNov16Wk1pic.jpg

First of all, I want to thank every person who has served our country to give us freedom - many at the cost of their lives.  Freedom is a priceless commodity many of us take for granted at one point or another, myself included, and it is always good to reflect on the cost of that freedom and the privileges we have because of it.  If any of my readers serve, have served, have family members who have or currently serve our country, thank you!  Your sacrifice does not go unnoticed.

Now on to the recap of the first Viva La Verve sketch for November.  Julee has provided a nice, clean sketch that you can dress up or keep on the CAS  side.

I opted for another Christmas card as you can never have enough.  I used  the stocking image and two sentiments from Jolly Jingles, added gold half pearls to the stockings and twine across the top so they had something to "hang" on.  Quick and easy card.

You can get more inspiration over on the Viva La Verve blog as well as finding out which cards I spotlighted from the gallery.

Come and play along!  Each month someone wins some free Verve!

The thing that struck me about the inspiration photo was the number of patterns on the trees.  I mixed a bunch of designer papers together to mimic the patterns, stamped the trees and "joy" sentiment from Jolly Jingles and created a frame around my focal circle using the pine sprig from Beyond Measure.  Some twine and two buttons to complete my "rule of three" for the navy and I was good to go.  It wasn't until I was uploading the photo that I realized that my striped background paper was not navy as I thought it was when I made it last night....ugh!!  With no time for a re-do you get my rather eclectic mix of colours today!  Note to self: do not create late at night when tired and lighting affects things!
