My quilt (or another post for my mom)

I bought some linen a while back to make a new table cloth, placemats, and napkins. I had some left-overs so I decided to make a quilt top. Since I don't have a comforter, I made it large enough for my bed and machine stitched the whole thing. Luckily, Kelli was gone for 2 weeks so I had time to assemble the quilt on our floor while she was in Utah. I also ended up with lightweight batting as my old singer has no walking foot. Anyway, even though there's mistakes a plenty on this quilt, it works for now and is warm.

Shelece is amazing

I haven't spoke to Shelece for a while, so I was happy to get a message from her a few days ago asking if I was "crafting" lately. Well, this morning on an embroidery blog I read, I found that a Shelece in Montana had an account on Etsy and was making these fabulous hand quilts. Yup, I'm pretty sure its "my Shelece." Isn't she awesome?

Blanket for Dolly

Shelece says: "My grandma deeply instilled in me the idea that dolls must be kept warm. I remember when I was little taking my doll over to Grandma's house for Thanksgiving dinner. I arrived all bundled up in my red wool coat with my doll tucked under my arm. Grandma met me at the door and gasped 'get that baby in here this minute, she's only dressed in a swim suit and a dish towel, she'll get sick and die in this weather!' Horrified I hurriedly bundled her under my coat to keep back the certain death my grandma knew was lurking around the corner for my unprotected doll."

Show and Tell

(This post is for my mom). About 6 months ago or so, Shannon mentioned that she would like a rag quilt for her (then) unborn little one. I volunteered, even though I've never made one; I'd spent part of my christmas vacation cutting out squares for one my mom was making me so I volunteered. Needless to say, it turned out really well--I was hoping it wouldn't like like someone who hadn't touched a sewing machine for 5 years--and never did all that well in sewing class had made it.
The most time consuming part was cutting out the squares. That was even more time consuming than cutting the seams.
Well, Shannon says she loves it, I surprised myself with it, and yes, I'm making another one (although (I've got squares for a little boy, but a friend is seven months pregnant with a little girl!) and even working on a "real quilt," which I'm hoping to sew the top and take it home when I go to Utah next month. anyway, here's photos of Santiago with his rag quilt.

here's the "back" side of the quilt. I was afraid to wash it, but this is what it looks like after a wash. Its puffed out nicely. This side was bugs, aliens and blue flannel.

Here's Santiago

The other side of the quilt: The "front" side is dinosaurs, jungle and the same blue on the back. This is the tranquilo side--the other is more lively.
