Photohunt: orange

The theme for this week is "Orange".

At first I thought it would be an easy one. After all, how hard it must be to find a picture with something orange in it? To start with, for instance:

After all, what could be more orange than an orange. And yet, it looks more yellow than orange to me. Lets' try this one:

Somewhere between the yellow and the red, isn't there some orange? OK, next:

Also a bit doubtful. Parts yellow, parts light brown... let's go for this one:

Some bits of it, probably, could qualify. Last attempt:

Better, I think, but does it get me the cigar? I don't know...

Photohunt: utensils

The theme for this week is "utensils".

Definition of utensil : An implement for practical use (especially in a household).
Tough one, in short. I've decided not to look for an easy way and went to the kitchen (instead of my toolbox), where there are some strange and wondrous things to be found.

And here they are:

I know I shall be ridiculed by some of the viewers here, but I freely confess that I don't have a slightest idea what in the blessed world the first two (from the left) utensils are for. The third one I recognize, since from the toddler's age I was allowed to lick the cream off it, so it always caused me a keen interest.

An explanation of the first two will be welcomed, cause I am too shy to ask SWMBO.

Photohunt: rocks

The theme for this week is "Rocks". This theme really... rocks for me, cause I love rocks. The problem was which ones to choose.

So I shall start with this:

A humble rock formation in the middle of Beit Guvrin National Park.

A part of 10 monumental megaliths possibly comprising a Canaanite "high place" in Tel Gezer. Quite mysterious.

Just a nice wet rock somewhere in Vietnam.

One of the thousands rocks of Halong Bay, Vietnam - an awesome place.

The amazing Spider Rock from Canyon De Chelly

If you are into grand things, you cannot beat the rocks of Grand Canyon.

As for me, the Bryce Canyon always rocks.

So, what will be your preference?

Photohunt: garbage

The theme for this week is "Garbage". Happened to be an easy one this time.

A scene that really made me mad:

It is not even a result of a slobs' picnic - in this case somebody has deliberately carried and dumped it all in the middle of a forest. For some reason visions of a great pile of burning garbage with a writhing body on top keep recurring...

Well, the next one was rather funny. On a sidewalk of a city I would rather not mention:

Somebody abandoned these remains of an armchair directly under a sign that explicitly forbids this same act and threatens a large fine for doing so. Well, here you are...

P.S. That second shot was taken by a phone camera, so...

Photohunt: in memory

The theme for this week is "In memory".

First of all, the date (May 9) is celebrated in Russia and a few other countries as a Victory Day - the day when Nazi Germany surrendered (the surrender document was signed late on May 8, and it was already May 9 Moscow time). Of course, Soviet Union was not the only country to fight the Nazis, but Soviet Union and the Red Army took the brunt of this war: estimated USSR losses within postwar borders now stand at 26.6 million. So, the most fitting picture for the date:

Soviet soldier putting up the red flag over Reichstag.

Well, now to more pleasant an fresh memories: a few non-famous but memorable corners of Jerusalem.

Just a wall.

Just a narrow lane.

Going home from the Friday market (that's the special shopping day - for the Sabbath).

And what does this girl read on the roof? We shall never know.

And another side street.

In a back yard.

If you liked this short walk, leave a comment, and I promised to visit your place.

Photohunt: protect(ion)

The theme for this week is "Protect(ion)". It sent me to the archives. So the pictures presented belong to different times and different places.

This plant is nothing if not well protected against any attempt to cause it damage. Its abundance of thorns will turn away almost any grazing attempt. Unless it's a camel, of course, and even a camel will think twice.

Water buffalo on a hot day in Vietnam, protecting self against the heat as well as against the insects.

And a regular Spectacled Bulbul, keeping watch around its mate's nest. Bulbuls are very good in their guard duties.

Photohunt: stripes

The theme for this week is "Stripes". It so happens that this time my contributions don't require any verbal trickery. What is striped is simply striped.

I wouldn't be able to visit today, so see you all a bit later.

Photohunt: yellow

The theme for this week is "Yellow". For a change, it was fairly easy for me to find a few samples of yellow in my recent collections. Two of the flora and two of the fauna.

No classification of the flower is forthcoming from this photographer, he being a total ignoramus in botanic. But it's pretty (I guess) and yellow.

In this riot of wild flowers there are several kinds of yellow ones, I suppose.

And re the two chaps above - they come from a the recently held local cats expo. The only two with yellow eyes I found in the set I shot. The first one is a Scottish Fold. Quite a beauty to a feline lover's eyes, isn't it?

Well, it could happen I wouldn't be able to visit tomorrow, so see you all a bit later.

Photohunt: four

The theme for this week is "Four". So, of course, you are going to view four pictures with some relevance to that number.

To start with - the Blue Mosque, Istanbul, with four out of its six minarets. It was difficult to find a point from which my lens were able to get all six of them, so here...

This one here is a domestic feline (Felis catus). You can count the legs if you doubt that there are four of them.

And here is a completely different animal (Canis lupus familiaris) - altogether much less intellectual domesticated species as compared to the previous one, but surprisingly with the same number of legs. The chief reasons that I photographed it were that a) it's cute in an unhygienic way and b) it's of the breed that Georgia O'Keeffe favored.

And speaking of cuteness, here are the four cute and voracious chicks of a barn owl, one of my favorite birds. Actually, there were five in that year's brood, but it's rather a long story...

Photohunt: thankful

The theme for this week is "Thankful". It reminded me of our experience in Hoi An, a beautiful small city on the coast of the South China Sea in the South Central Coast of Vietnam.

Hoi An has many historic artefacts of value and beauty. Like this Japanese bridge

which is guarded on one side by two dogs like this one

and on the other side by two monkeys like this one:

Or like this exquisite Chinese temple:

Walking around all these wonders, we have stumbled on a small square with a monument that looked strangely out of place:

Until we have read the brief story you can see here (click to enlarge):

In this nice way citizens of Hoi An expressed their gratefulness to the man, who came from afar to help them preserve their rich history.

And I want to use the opportunity to say that I'm thankful to Canon, whose good ole 10D withstood the vagaries of our mostly wet and humid journey.
