Family Clip it Up Wall Mount

Hello everyone! I am super excited to share an altered item with you today that I have been working on for a while!!

I don’t consider myself much of an “altered items” type of scrapper. I’d much rather do layouts. But when I get an idea for a project, it consumes me and I really put my heart into it! That’s what happened when I got my Clip It Up Wall Mount. I knew right away that I was going to use it for something other than holding supplies, and I also knew that I wanted to make it so that it was  visible in our house and that I could move it around.

 image

I went to my local craft store and found a piece of unfinished wood with a nice shape (I brought my wall mount to the store to make sure it would fit!). I thought that if I adhered the wall mount to a piece of wood instead of directly to the wall that I could move it around in my house.

image

I painted the wood with black paint, and then a crackle finish and a clear top coat. The letters I cut out on my Cricut using the Storybook cartridge, and the hearts are from a punch. I made sure that my letters would fit between the two end brackets of the wall mount before I glued anything down!

image

You will notice that the Wall Mount is actually mounted upside down. I did this so that the word FAMILY would be easier to see.

For the strands, I purchased some small wooden panels that are about 3”x4”, and some wooden house shapes, too. I painted each of these black and then added some patterned papers to them.

image

The house I decorated with papers and some chipboard pieces. I then printed off my photos 2.25”x3” and adhered them to the panels. I used a strong paper piercer to poke a hole in the bottom the panels big enough for a clip it fit through, but a small drill would work, too.

image

For the words “Live, Love, Laugh”, I used my SCAL program on my Cricut to cut some chipboard and papers to cover them. I covered each word with a few layers of Mod Podge to make them a bit more sturdy. Each word was then glued to a circle punched from paper, and that circle was glued to a piece of ribbon. The ends of the ribbon strip were looped and hot glued so that a clip could hang from them.

image

I made a few bows out of ribbon and hot glued them to the front of the clips. Because of the way the clips are angled when you get them, I had to use a pair of pliers to bend the clips so that my photos would hang straight.

image

I am so SO happy with the way this turned out! I need to find the perfect place to hang this my house. I think I might start working on another one for a Christmas gift!

Show off your kids’ Masterpieces

The Big Question is where to display them???

Solution...Clip it Up wall products

Kids come home everyday with a backpack full of 'masterpieces'.  As moms we love them, but we don't know where to put them.  The fridge only holds so much. My 4 year old nephew Kaden loves all of his artwork and remembers each one.  He'll dig through the garbage once a day to make sure his mom didn't throw any out. Now everyday after school Kaden hangs up his pictures for display on a Clip it Up Wall Mount

Here are my cute nephews Camden and Brock displaying some of their awesome art work. Letting them hang their own is a great way to involve them in deciding which ones go up and which ones come down.

Don't forget that if black is not your color you can always paint it to match the design of your room.

How Busy Mom’s Stay Organized

Working full time and being a single mom with a teenage son can be a challenge (in many ways) but staying organized isn't a
problem any more. The one place my son, Mitch, and I always end up is the kitchen.  I decided to put an Under the Shelf Rod under my kitchen cabinet. Can I say I LOVE it!!!! It has been so helpful for Mitch and I. Here is how we organize our crazy life!!

Sunday nights Mitch and I go through our week and anything that needs to be done we put reminders on that day-such as garbage night. I love leaving him notes during the week so I have post-it notes hanging in front. I also hang up our shopping list, bills I need to pay, school papers needing to be signed, and Mitch is even leaving me cute notes. I put a zip bag up for lunch and spending money and when it's empty it's a good reminder he needs money(always empty).

I had to make it cute so I decorated the tabs with  Jillibean Soup-Chilled Strawberry Soup line and inked it with Tim Holtz Vintage Photo Ink. I think the tabs turned out super cute (can't go wrong with great products). Now I'm ready for my busiest days.

**Don’t forget the Clip it Up Under the Shelf Rod is currently on sale for only $14.00 (normally $20.00)**

Tina’s Craft Area Redo: Part 1

Hello all! I can officially say HAPPY SPRING to you now! J I hope you are enjoying the longer days… the warmer sun… and all the fun that goes with it!

As you may remember, I am in the midst of renovations at home here. When things are complete, I will have a scrappy space all my own! I would like to share the journey with you. In doing this, I would like to accomplish several things. I hope that I can give you ideas on how to organize your supplies in a small area. I would like to share with you how to maximize your Clip it Up products. I would like to show you step by step how my scrappy space goes from nothing, to something hopefully fabulous!!

Let me begin by sharing a little bit about this space. We live in an old farm house. It has been renovated several years ago (before we bought it) and I love it. One half of the upstairs was just one big open room. It was all great… until we ended up with 5 kids. 5 kids and 2 bedrooms just do not work well! So… renovations began… (before all 5 kids arrived, mind you! J ) When it is complete, we will have 4 bedrooms… 2 boys in one, 2 boys in another, daughter in her own room and of course… one for Hubby and me! J Also when we are done, we will have an upstairs family/rec room. THAT is where my scrappy space will be! I wanted it to be in a space where I can be with the kids. It is not possible for me to be in a room all to myself… we don’t have the room… but more importantly, I want the children to be with me! That’s why this space will work so well for me!

Let me begin with a photo of the room as it is now. The walls are painted… 2 are a light green… the other 2 are light yellow. But when you are in there… it all looks the same… L I’ve also written in what my plan is for now as to where things will go… just so you have an idea of the layout.

image

Next step… hardwood flooring has to go down… and trim goes on. After that, we’re ready to start the fun part!

Right now while waiting, I have been looking for an old set of kitchen cabinets to use in the room. I would like to give them a creamy white-washed look. I am going for a bit of a shabby/country look to my space. What is not on my Clip-it-Ups, I would like to have behind closed doors. Where it is a family room, I need to try and keep things as neat looking as I can.

I have started to alter my clip-it-up products with this shabby/country style in mind… I began with my mini… here’s what I came up with! Each one will be different… but will keep with the soft pastel color palate…

 image

I began by spray painting all of the parts, even if they were going to be covered my paper or ribbon. Next I traced a scalloped circle onto my Webster’s Pages paper of choice. I cut it out using scissors and inked the edges using Ranger Distress ink. I then adhered a sheer ribbon around the perimeter. This was held in place using Helmar’s Quick Fix Adhesive runner. Holds it perfectly! Next I wrapped patterned paper around the pole. I glued it using Helmar’s Premium Craft Glue and held it in place with some elastic bands until it was well dried. To decorate the top handle, I added a small strip of the gingham patterned paper and more of the ribbon. Pink Paislee chipboard letters inspired me to add the word ART to the handle… topped off with a butterfly cut out from the Webster’s paper! Once it was all back together, I added a section of Webster’s tulle flower ribbon around the base of the pole just for a bit of interest. And Voila!! My first altered Clip-It-Up!! It is SO addictive! I had to refrain myself from just going right at the next one! After all… the kids do need supper! J

If you’re still with me… THANK YOU for reading!!! Join me next month to see how things are going in my space… I hope to show you some flooring completed… and another altered clip-it-up… which one will I tackle next???

I would LOVE to hear your ideas and thoughts! I’m open for ANY ideas!!! I need your advice and thoughts on where you think I should put my floor model? I was thinking possibly in the corner between the cabinets and the long table… I need to keep the bottom empty for now due to babies with grabby fingers! LOL! So give me your thoughts… I’d love to hear them!!

Until Next Time…

Happy Organizing… and Happy Scrapping!!

Audrey’s Craft Space

I wanted to share with you today a short little tour of my scrap space. It’s been about a month since I took the video below, in which you will see how I have organized my Clip it Up. As I describe in the video, I wanted to use my Clip it Up for my most favorite things.

I am HONESTLY going to say that since I have taken this video, I have actually USED the things on my Clip it Up way more than I even though I would!!! It is so so SO handy having my favorite things in my stash right there at my fingertips! I don’t even have to leave my seat!

But alas, it is already full, yet I keep buying more supplies with all the new CHA releases coming out! So I am going to do TWO things: 1) Use up the things that I have on my Clip it Up now, and 2)stop buying more things. JUST KIDDING on #2!! But honestly, #2) perhaps buy a Clip it Up Upper Tier to add on to the top or get another Main Base.

So here is a quick video of my scrap space. Hope it doesn’t bore you! I had fun making it. After I shot it, I realized there were a few things I forgot to show you, so there are some photos after the video.

A few things you didn’t see:

My stash of ribbons. I don’t use a lot of ribbon on my projects, but I really want to start using it more. I used to have it on spools on a rod, then as my stash grew I placed it into one of those clear plastic bags with the holes (didn’t like that), and I finally decided on this system. I took some foam board an cut it into 4x6” pieces and wrapped ribbon by color onto the cards. I secured the ends with tape and wrap rubber bands around them so they don’t come unraveled. It is working well so far, except I have been bad about adding new ribbons to cards! Gotta get on that!

image image

My closet. There is a reason I didn’t show this on video. It’s a disaster. This is my collections of years of different hobbies. I have cross stitch and watercolors and canvases and crochet and sewing patterns and jewelry and a ton of other things. This is also storage for our winter coats, hubby’s baseball cards, and my old classroom stuff and school files (if I ever go back into teaching!).

image image

I also keep my scraps in here in pull out trays. Scraps are sorted by cardstock or pattern paper, and then by size. Anything smaller than 6x12 in one bin and larger in another, for a total of four trays. I NEVER use my pattern paper scraps, as you can tell by the mound. I wish I did, but I love new things and it seems like there is something new out there every month! I am going to start sorting through these soon.

image

So there you have it. A look into my creative space! Thanks so much for joining me. I will be back in a few weeks with a wall mount project!!

Organizing Lace

Hello and good morning! My name is Barbara Lochridge, and I am sooo excited to be on the Simply Renee Clip It Up design team! I feel privileged to be amongst such talent! I have been married for 26 years to a wonderful man and I have two grown sons. The youngest made us very proud by following in his father's footsteps in the United States Navy. The oldest who we are also proud of,  made us grandparents last year to a beautiful baby girl. She is definitely being spoiled by Grandma!  Enough about me, on with the show.

I love lace and try to use it on everything!  So I have a different use for the 36" Ribbon Organizer. I am using it as my lace holder, well, there is a bit of ribbon in the top, but now that I have this, it will all be lace soon. It is wonderful to have my rolls of lace where I can see them. Before the rolls were in a drawer and I would forget about them. Now they are displayed where I can see them.

image

I put my yards of lace in baggies. I can see exactly what I have, and what I am running low on. I love how I can see all my lace now. It's so much easier and less messy. Before I would dig threw a basket, and things didn't always make their way back in, because I was intent on finding what I needed and getting my layout finished  (if you know what I mean)! It really has saved me time on cleanup! I absolutely love my 36” ribbon holder!

image

I love to do heritage layouts and almost always use lace. That's why I have so much of it. Today's layout is a heritage layout using Graphic 45's Once Upon a Springtime collection. I love their collections!  And yes, you will notice lace on this layout. It is a picture of my Grandmother when she was still in high school.

image   image

Couldn't resist adding pearls to the lace.

I hope I have inspired you to use your Clip it Up in a different way. I plan to have more organizational tips for you in the coming months!  See you again in a few weeks!

My Clip It Up: A Wheel of Fortune

Hello everyone! I’m so excited today to be sharing this fun layout I did, and have included a sketch for you, too!
In a few weeks, I am going to share a bit with you about how I have organized my Clip It Up Main Base to suit my needs. In a nutshell, it sits right next to my desk and holds some of my favorite things. ..you know, the things that you love so much that you hoard them instead of using them? I think a few of you probably know what I mean!
image
So for my project today, I challenged myself to actually use some of my favorite things from my “Wheel of Fortune”. That’s what I’m calling it. I guess you could look at my Clip It Up as a “Wheel of Fortune” in two ways: 1) I have spent a fortune on scrapbooking supplies and now they are hanging on my Clip it Up where I can USE them, or 2) I am so “fortunate” to have this awesome Clip It Up to store my “riches” on. I’m goin with #2.
I placed my Clip It Up on my floor, and placed my scissors on top as my “pointer” and gave ‘er a whirl (don’t spin too hard!). I know there are probably easier ways to randomly pick products from your Clip It Up, but I was going for the dramatic effect, plus it was fun and I love looking at my fully loaded Clip It Up from this angle!
image
After I spun three times, I ended up with these three packs of embellishments: some cork accents from Pink Paislee, some stickers from Sassafras, and some felt embellies from American Crafts. I challenged myself to use all three on a layout.
image
I was inspired by the bright colors of the felt pieces, so I had to do a page about Spring. I used some new papers from American Crafts “Hello Sunshine” line. The orange in the felt sun really picked up the orange of my daughter’s watering can, and the felt flower went along perfect for the theme.
image
I used some of the smaller stickers from the Sassafras sheet and layered them in clusters with the cork accents from Pink Paislee. The cloud stickers and the phrase sticker are from American Crafts.
image
image
I usually draw out a sketch in my notebook, then do my layout, and then convert the sketch to a digital image to share. So here is a sketch for you to jumpstart a layout! And I challenge you to use some of the things that you have on your Clip It Up when you create your page!
image
Thanks for humoring me and letting me share with you today! I am looking forward to using all my goodies on my Clip It Up and sharing my projects with you over the next couple of months!! And here is just a sneak of a project that I will be working on!

Joan’s Final Post

Hi, everyone!  It's Joan, with my last post for Clip it Up.  I've enjoyed being on the team and getting my scrap room organized!  Thanks to Renee, Bobbi and Carolyn for all that you do!
This post is a tour of my scrap room, which is 28' by 12'.  In the room, I use carts and Clip it Up products to keep my stash organized and accessible.

When I walk into the room, this is what I see on the right side ...

image

And this is the left side....

image

The areas around the room are filled with Clip it Up products - eight of them, in fact!!

First, I have my Thickers on the Jumbo Clip it Up.  It is on a cart in front of my bookcase.  The bottom of the cart holds boxes filled with ATC, inchies and fat book supplies.

image

Next are my card making supplies, color coded in the baskets.  Finished cards are in the blue basket on top.

image

My stamp cabinet is next.  I have lots of rubber and acrylic stamps and they are organized by subject matter in the drawers.

image
My paints, glitters and mists are in the white cupboard on the wall.  Below are two carts with inks.  Paintbrushes are on top in the crock and my large alpha stamps are in the wire container.  Hanging in this area is a Swinging Wall Arm which I use for new and seasonal products. Right now there are red and pink items on it for Valentine's Day.

image

My 18” Ribbon Organizer hangs over two carts filled with miscellaneous paper.  Then there are three white carts with Hobby Lobby and Tim Holtz supplies.  I have a Clip it Up Main Base and Upper Tier on one of the carts.

image

My sewing area is next, then my computer and TV.
More carts - one for tools, two for seasonal, with the Wall Mount above them.  Then two carts for more paper!!  On top of those carts, I have my Clip it Up Mini which holds my flowers.

image

My work table is in the center of my room.  It's a table from Ikea.  I love it so much, that I bought another one for my die cutting room!

At either end of the table, are more Clip it Ups - a Main Base with Upper Tier and my Floor Model.  The Main Base sits on a cart full of scraps.  My Floor Model holds all my Basic Grey.

image

image
I love my Clip it Up products - they are amazing!!!  I hope you have fun getting your scrap stuff organized in 2011!!

Joan
