2021 Week 50

Are you ready for Christmas???  I'm not - the sewing room is full of have finished projects and I dont even know who is coming over, or when!

People have been sending me pics of my tree decorations going on their trees - I love to see these!

Gingers have been taking part in next door's Elf on a shelf antics!

And I was asked to design and stitch a tangoing couple - I know the recipients as well as the giver - I hope they all like them!

I had a lovely play with Plum's small weaving look (here on Amazon, no affiliation) - thanks Plum: vintage (50 years or so old) knitted socks now mended again!

And a not too successful Ginger - he's wearing a waistcoat and a jacket with tails, but you really cant see any of the detail.  He's gone on the back burner while I think about him

Right - back to stitching out a set of three kings for the Vicar's Christmas pressie!!!!

2021 Week 4

No end in sight to Lockdown 3, no travel plans, no day trips, no meeting family - all a bit dull!

So I might have bought myself some wool!!!!

But no chance to start it yet - a local charity have ordered a gazillion of these... ideally by Thursday so Lizzie and I are going to be BUSY!!!

I managed to get this quilt embroidered and then delivered while I was out walking  a few days ago

And I made these cheerleaders for the Keep Moving campaign

We had snow!  Most people headed for the shed to get wellies and sledges . . .  me?  I headed for Lizzie LOL

One of my lovely warm Norwegian jumpers had a hole in it so I did a bit of darning, visible from the inside

but not from the outside!

Lizzie has finished quilting this for me.  We installed her FMQ table and it worked really well supporting the weight of the quilt.

Back to Lizzie and the gingers (they are finger puppets - a cute idea) and I'll see you on the other side!

More Goodies

I have managed to look at all the goodies in the donated boxes: hope you are ready for a few photos!

LOTS of white buttons - some beautiful mother-of-pearl type

And sufficient to nearly refill my white button jar, so I can look for another craft using them.  Also two more wooden darning mushrooms - I love these, so tactile, but no idea what to do with them (other than darning of course!!!)

A wide range of big needles - these first three have two holes - any idea why?

and about a million *tiny* needles - seriously tiny!  this one on the left came from the box, the one on the right is the smallest eye of all the ones I have in my sewing box

A zoomed in picture:
Incredibly tiny, I can't see to thread it even with my glasses on, and I really don't think that thread would go through that eye!

There were also some crochet hooks: I guess she had better eyesight than I have!

The box now holds the wooden cotton reels and the thimbles

I have long needed something to put my own crochet hooks into, so I've made one and the donated ones can live here with mine until the next Crafty Church session.  I adapted my Mug Caddy instructions, and am really pleased with it - not bad for a 20 minute make!

darn darning!

As previously mentioned, I don't knit, but mother does - and is fab at it.

Over the years she has knitted me a number of really warm Norwegian style jumpers.  The most recent one (3 or 4 years ago) is a style called Voss: a place near Bergen where coincidentally my aunt and uncle have a 'hutte' or cottage.  This design would usually be knitted in just two colours, but I couldn't decide!
With the colder weather this last week, I went to get this jumper out of the wardrobe: can you see a problem?

What if I put my finger behind part of it

I am very peeved.  I don't know if I caught it on something and didn't notice, or if I have moths, but I certainly have some darning to do, sigh

I wore this jumper to church on Sunday instead - more traditionally Norwegian.  The scarf isn't traditional at all: it was bought from Holister - in Florida!  It looked fab, but was too thin, so I have lined it with fleece which gives it a better shape, and much warmer

I have managed some sewing: it doesn't look much but, but these 50 or so blocks were last seen laid out on the floor in mum's spare room, where they were pinned together in rows, well now they are stitched together in rows, ready foir ironing and suddenly I have a gazillion more pins that I had yesterday!
