Hi Chaps,
It could only happen in 28MM but I seem to have gathered a book club together! I started with the Scibor guy long before I had the Frostgrave set and things went from there....I like reading myself so figures holding a book seem great!
Ferom left to right, Reaper metal, Northstar, Northstar, Scibor and then a Reaper bones. I am not sure what to do with them all but as backdrop figures they are fine. The Frostgrave soldiers that i put together this week are fun and the illustrations in the book help with the colour scheme.
Pretty much a warband in a few painting sessions including the snipping and gluing....they look decent though I suspect others will be spending hours on fine detail as so few figures are needed?
I am really rather keen to play Frostgrave and if pushed I could form another band of desperate types from my existing figure collection. Part of the fun for me though is thinking of a background for the mini as I paint it. The brothers Grimm have always fascinated me and here they are in miniature, complete with a strip of red clothe taken from the saintly remains of a cardinal....
A work in progress! These two less than handsome chaps will stand in for the brothers, the guns will simply have the same rules as crossbows...as I play solo there will be no complaints!
Keep blogging Chaps, I believe Salute is in full swing which is great as the new releases at the show always push the hobby forward.
A blog on my wargaming activities, including painting, purchases and thoughts.

Frostgrave Sigilist and Apprentice
Hi Chaps,
I have been enjoying my new painting station immensely
and enjoying painting the Frostgrave soldiers and beasts even more so! It has been a decent week on the painting front and my first Warband will be photographed this weekend if the sun ever shines.
My camera is very basic and it will not let me change the white balance so an outdoor shoot is required.
Off to glue together a few more fighty types so that my son can take a warband into the frozen city over the weekend.
Keep blogging Chaps

Mordheim, Frostgrave and the brothers Grimm
Hi Chaps,
I have had an hour of sticking, cutting and gluing....oh and painting a toad. This hobby can be surreal!
It could just be that Games Workshop will be re releasing Mordheim-I missed it first time around but will definatley be buying this time...anyway as Frostgrave seems to be along the same lines I began my first ever Warband.
As a lifelong fan of the darker fairy tales one has to love the Grimm brothers. The excellent film "The Brothers Grimm" reinforced my liking of these two highly intelligent men...though it is a fantastic tale I am sure that they would approve! So my first two shooters for Mordheim or Frostgrave are the brothers Jacob and Wilhelm, the large book they both have is actually the German dictionary that they both worked on but never completed. Maybe I will change the heads or just attempt to give them hair....or paint on a shadow representing a shaved head?
Another 3d doodle today was the plastic/rubber toad thing that I found, it fits size wise for Frostgrave-I honestly never thought that I would ever paint a toad. It is a work in progress but what can you really do with an ice toad?
Lastly a package arrived today containing the Frostgrave Sigilists, pretty useful for either system I would think? I am looking forward to painting these up and would not mind an all female warband....I am an equal rights employer!
Just for anyone who may have missed one of Heath Ledgers best performances ever....

Speed Painting and a free toad...
Hi Chaps,
As an experiment I grabbed 10 Perry plastic WOR archers and began a little speed painting challenge. To be honest these figures are so detailed they are no fun to paint. Layer upon layer of clothing, straps and buckles (all in a "small" 28MM) just grinds my gears. So the plan was to cut my plastic mountain down a little....base colours, wash and tidy up. It took about two hours in total, please ignore the bases I am waiting for the glue to dry before basing.
The colours are Burgundian but I believe that they hired bows...oh well they will work for fantasy if not. Tomorrow the bases will be painted and I will work a little nore on the details....to be truthful I am not sure that I will notice that they were speed painted (3 hours total) once they are completed.
Lately I have been reading Frostgrave and painting the odd figure for it, mostly skeletons, ghouls and trolls etc but I did not have a toad. Until now. A strange event occurred this afternoon, as we emptied an old box a toad of perfect proportions fell out of the bottom. I can attest 100% to never having bought a plastic/resin toad in my life! Maybe he was already in the box? Anyway he is getting a coat of paint....can anyone ID this cherub of a free toad? I think he is a decoration or a toy and not a war game miniature.
Thanks for checking in, have a good Easter and keep gaming!

Enjoying the painting vibe
Hi Chaps,
Maybe it's the weather but I have enjoyed rising a little earlier than usual to get an hour or so of painting in, does anyone else do this? Mostly it has been 20mm Germans but for a break I have been painting the odd Space Marine that my eldest bought me as a birthday gift or a random figure that has been taking up space in a little box somewhere.
The two chancers above are almost finished with just a basic lick of paint and with no particular project or army in mind there is no restriction on colour or theme. Having mentioned armies I will put some pics of my Germans up when the next company has been completed, they are competing for space along with their Russian comrades on my "to do" list....dozens of them!
The space issue has compelled me to put a few odd figures on ebay which will no doubt help fund more figure purchases and not really solve the space issue at all....again does anyone else have this habit? I do enjoy drooling over pictures of others gamers figure cabinets mostly to see how they are stored but I always end up finding more figures that I "need" to paint!
Take care and keep blogging!

Frostgrave, Black Powder 1/72 or 40k?
Hi Chaps,
It had to happen as I am sure it does to all gentlemen at some point or other! I have run out of steam and cannot pick up a brush...
This does happen now and again but I think I know the cause this time. I have just completed a few stands of 1/72 Medieval figures and they are too effective. This has thrown me a little as instead of plugging away at my remaining Bretonnians I have been thinking about the endless possibilities of Strelets plastic figures.
The long awaited release of 30K is almost upon us and though I am not a huge fan of Games Workshop they got Age of Sigmar spot on with the free rules and army lists. I do hope that 30K follows a similar game format because it means that a game is actually playable. If the release is just another Space Hulk type of ploy I may just leave the 40K universe behind (not that I ever invested much in it) and try Gates of Antares or Infinity...suggestions welcome.
My copy of Frostgrave arrived a few weeks ago but has hardly been opened because of those pesky damned plastics but I did complete a few treasure markers...they are a little large but hey..
Well I had better go and meditate on what to try next but Peter the Great is looking like a good candidate for some Googling. Maybe if he was interesting enough I will be inspired to build a little plastic army....resale value will be nil as I am not sure that anyone else games Black Powder in 20mm!
