Got Your Nose Tee

Back in February I made my first one of these t-shirts and posted it on my blog here.  When my husband saw how the shirt turned out he was adamant that that was the shirt he wanted me to make him for our upcoming trip to Universal Studios.  We've been going every year for the past four years but this year will be special because it will be just the two of us.  That and it'll be a late anniversary celebration for us as well.

The design is one that was shared in one of my Harry Potter Facebook groups.  I've had several people ask if I could share the file with them, and since I am not the creator of the file I am unable to do so.  If you message me though I'll be happy to share the name of the group with you.

At first I was worried about applying HTV to the shirt my husband chose because it's a polyester blend and everything I've done has been a cotton blend.  I was honestly scared it would melt or something being pressed under all that heat.  But it pressed beautifully.

Because this is a polyester fabric that has some stretch to it I decided to use EasyWeed Stretch vinyl for the design.  I didn't want to take the chance at using regular vinyl and then having the design crack and get icky.  I will say that for me, personally, the stretch vinyl was harder to work with.  I had more issues trying to weed this vinyl than I have had with any other I've used.  I even had a couple of spots where the weeding got messed up and I had to make some quick modifications to correct it.  Fortunately everything turned out okay in the end, and when I showed the shirt to my hubby he couldn't see where any mistakes were made.  Whew!

Niffler and His Diamond

We are just a week away (minus a day) from the release of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them on DVD, and I for one am excited......along with the other who knows how many Harry Potter fans.  So in honor of the upcoming release date I thought I'd play around at making a small t-shirt with one of the creatures that just steals the show (and a great many other things) - the Niffler.

These little creatures have a penchant for anything shiny.  Thus his holding onto his diamond treasure.

I made a onesie with this Niffler a couple months ago.  Only then I used a different holographic HTV for the diamond.  That one didn't show up as well since it was on a color other than black.  I was so bummed out by it that I went in search of a better holographic that I was confident would work.

And my file?  Well, it's one that was share in one of my Harry Potter FB groups.

Now to wait for Tuesday to get here so we can re-watch this wonderful addition to the Harry Potter collection.

Deathly Hallows Shirt

My husband and I will be celebrating our 15th anniversary this coming Monday and this year we told each other we'd take a belated trip to Universal Studios as our gift to each other.  So as we count down the days until our trip (we put it off to May when the weather is warmer) I have made my first shirt.

I don't know how many of you are Harry Potter fans or how many of you may have read the books or at least watched the movies.  Throughout the series Harry comes up three different 'mythical' objects that together are known as the Deathly Hallows - the cloak of invisibility, a wand that cannot be beaten and a stone that is said to bring the dead back to life.

So when I saw this file for the Deathly Hallows shared in one of my FB groups I thought it would be a perfect one to use for my shirt.  I thought it would be more difficult to weed than it was and so I was pleasantly surprised with how easy this was to create.

Now I just have to wait to be able to wear it.....

One Cool Bunny

My daughter brought me another blank shirt and asked that I dress it up for Ocean.  Since Easter is just around the corner I thought it would be fun to do something with a bunny.  After searching through the Silhouette Design Store I found this bunny sunglasses file and had to have it.

For this design I went with a white stripflock for the bunny.  Not only does this add a bit of dimension to the design since it's a thicker material, but it also adds texture like a soft fuzzy.  The nose, mouth, ears and sunglass frames were cut from regular Siser vinyl but the sunglass lenses were cut from a black glitter vinyl.  Again adding another element of dimension and texture to the design.

And now I'm off to enter my project into the following challenge:

DL Art - February Linky Challenge - Ends February 28th

Whale of a Pirate

I'm always creating fun shirts (and sometimes dresses) for little girls so when I saw this fun Pirate Whale over at Apex Cuttable Designs I knew it would be perfect for a little boy's top.  When paired up with this baseball shirt I found at Hobby Lobby it really screams fun.  I love how the red sleeves help to make the whale pop against the white background.

This design would be perfect for any little boy who loves pirates and I can even see using it for a pirate themed birthday party.  How fun would this be on little favor bags?  And did I mention that there's a second pirate whale in this file?  That means the two of them could be rotated on a birthday banner or used as cupcake toppers.  Oooooh, the possibilities are endless.

I mean seriously, this is a fun one that should be added to your SVG stash if you haven't done so already.  Not only are the possibilities endless but it's one of those quick and easy files to piece together and you know how I am about the quick and easy files.  When crafting time is tight there's nothing better.....

And now I'm off to enter my pirate whale into the following challenges:

Die Cuttin Divas - Animals - Ends February 26th

DL Art - February Linky Challenge - Ends February 28th

Ravenclawesome

Crafting is one of those things that can either provide relief from stress or add to it.  During the end of the year holiday seasons it can be the latter for me, but until then I find comfort in crafting.  So this past weekend I did as much of it as I could.

One of the things I made this past weekend was this cute Ravenclaw t-shirt.  I found the file (and those for the other three houses) at SVG File Designs.  I'll be making the others as well, but first I have to find the correct colors of HTV.

As for this one, I'll be entering it into the following challenges:

Die Cuttin Divas - Animals - Ends February 26th

DL Art - February Linky Challenge - Ends February 28th

Work Shirts

My daughter's boyfriend recently accepted a position with a new company.  After a couple weeks of working with them he had my daughter ask if I could make him some work shirts with their company logo.  Well that sounded like another challenge to me so of course I couldn't refuse.

I told them to get me the logo and shirts and I'd do the rest.  My daughter sent me a picture from her phone but it wasn't large or clear enough for a trace so I went on the internet in search of a better picture.  After find the logo I dropped it into my Silhouette Studio software and was able to get a good trace on it.

I then cut them out of my HTV and heat pressed them onto the shirts and viola, the shirts are complete.

My daughter was telling me that the first day he wore his shirt his co-worker was telling him that the other guys were going to be jealous because theirs were all plain.  Guess I'll take that as kudos for a job well done.

I Got Your Nose

My husband I are planning another trip to Universal Studios later this year.   It's been a while since we've have a vacation - just the two of us and so we thought it'd be fun to take one and celebrate our 15 year anniversary.  So in 'preparation' we've been binge watching all the Harry Potter movies the past week.

In addition we've also watched some of the behind the scenes snippits.  One of the ones we watched the other night was how they came to create the look for the Voldemort character.  And what perfect timing to have watched that too because just a day or two later I saw this hilarious file in one of my Harry Potter groups.  Well of course I had to have it so I could use it on a shirt for the grandbaby.

Needless to say, my daughter is afraid that I'm trying to turn the baby into a 'nerd'.  But hey, cute is cute and this is down right cute.

Now I just need to decide if I want to use this on one of the shirts I'm going to make for our trip to Universal.  Decisions.  Decisions.

Chillin With My Peeps

A few days ago, my daughter brought over a couple articles of clothing that belong to my granddaughter saying that she thought I might want them to 'practice' on.  Well I was quite sure I knew what that meant so of course I accepted the challenge.

One of the pieces was a pink onesie.  Since tomorrow is Valentine's Day I felt it best to just move on to the next holiday.  So that is just what I did.  I moved on.....to Easter.  Now I don't know about you but when I think of Easter I think not only about the Resurrection or the Easter bunny.  I think about the candy.  You know.  All the chocolate and those squishy yellow peeps.  So it's no wonder why when I saw this Chillin With My Peeps file over at Apex Cuttable Designs that I had to create something with it.

The file comes with five different designs and each one is fantastic.  For now design five is the one I chose for this onesie.  I also chose to cut it from flock material and I'm glad I did because I love the way that it looks and feels.  After all little chicks should be soft and fuzzy, right?  And cutting this design in flock was super easy to weed and apply.

Now I need to decide on which design I want to use next....

Sending Love - Onesie Style

Today I have a fun baby onesie that I'd like to share with you.  I saw this wonderful Bird Balloons file over at the Applique Corner and knew that it would make the most adorable shirt.

When I laid this design out for cutting I felt like the balloon strings were too thin so I enlarged those a bit to give them more substance.  I had thought about using a glitter HTV for one of the balloons but since I used foil for one I thought that would be a bit over kill and stuck with just the foil.  Plus I wasn't sure how the white accent would sit on top of the glitter as I've heard mixed reviews.

The Love Script HTV is from the Vinyl Corner - actually that's where most of my HTV for this project came from.  (The foil HTV is from Vinyl Spectrum.)  Our local Sewing Corner folks own the Applique Corner and Vinyl Corner.  It's like a one stop shop and not only do they have wonderful products and prices to match but the customer service is phenomenal.  Yep, I am one happy girl since they've come to town.  🙋

Niffler Onesie

I found this pink onesie at Hobby Lobby and picked it up so I could play with something other than a white onesie.  As I sat down to contemplate what design I'd use on the onesie I decided that Valentine's was out even though that was kind of my thought when I bought it.  Looking at my glitter HTVs the shades of pink would get lost in the onesie and that would be pointless.

After some thought I decided to use this fun Niffler file that was shared in one of my Harry Potter groups.  Now if you haven't seen the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them you might not recognize this fella or know that he loves to steal bright, shiny objects.  And if you haven't seen the movie and have no idea what I'm talking about here's a little plug....although now you'll have to wait for it to come out on DVD.

But I digress.  So, as you can see, I chose to use the Niffler on the onesie.  And since he was holding a diamond I thought it would be perfect to use holographic HTV for the diamond.  I mean it showed up beautifully on a black shirt that was on display at the sewing store.  Not so much though on my pink onesie.  Lesson learned - along with a couple others.   It still turned out pretty cute though.

Daddy's Other Chick

My daughter hit me up a couple weeks ago asking me to make a shirt for Ocean that said daddy's other chick.  She sent me a picture of a design she found and I don't remember where it was from.  But, I do remember that it wasn't as cute as the Daddy's Other Chick file that I found at Hoop Momma Designs.

As I looked at the design I thought to myself that it'd be cool to use a flock HTV for the chick.  That way it'd give it a bit of texture and add some fun to the design.  Luckily I was able to find a roll of yellow flock at my local Sewing Corner.

While pressing the layers for this shirt I did learn a couple lessons and hope for a better outcome next time.  One of the more important lessons was that even on my last layer to only do a two second press and then remove the vinyl and do a full press.  Then I won't have to worry about potential lines being left behind.  Fortunately when I washed the shirt (after it cured for 24 hours) the line went away and the shirt was saved.

Now I just have to find other colored shirts/onesies to play with.  My daughter was quick to point out last night that all I've been doing is white.  Of course that's the only color I've ever seen the packs of Gerber onesies come in.  But that's okay.  I've finally HTV'd the entire pack and I'll share the last of them with you soon.  In the meantime, I guess I'll start looking for some other colors.  LOL

Valentine Wagon

We are just a couple weeks away from Valentine's Day and I can't imagine any crafter out there that hasn't created at least one Valentine's project by now.  Usually by this time I've made several greeting cards but since Christmas I've been working more with learning how to use my embroidery machine and heat press.  This weekend was no different and after a few successful and some not so successful projects it was time to take a break.

This is one of my favorite projects I made over the weekend.  This is the Love Wagon from Apex Cuttables.  There are two fun wagons in this file but I only created one of them this weekend.  The other one I hope to do next weekend.

For this particular file I decided that instead of layering the white dots on the tires I would subtract them from the tire.  So in my Silhouette Studio software, I grouped the tires and the dots together and then clicked to subtract the object.  It made for a little bit more weeding but I thought this make it easier in the long run.

This is also the first time that I've used glitter HTV and I love the way that it turned out.  The picture really doesn't do the onesie much justice.  However, it's been pouring rain all weekend again so being able to get a good picture was not an easy task.

The HTV I used were all Siser brand with the exception of the Love Script HTV.  That's a custom print vinyl that you can only get from The Vinyl Corner.  Fortunately for me they're located in my hometown.  Unfortunately for my husband, they're located in my hometown.
🤣
He doesn't really mind though.  He'll tell anyone that if I'm happy and busy with my crafting then he can play his video games in peace and that makes him happy.  LOL

Valentine Butterfly

Since receiving a heat press for Christmas I have really enjoyed doctoring up baby onesies.  It is after all easier to apply vinyl to a onesie than it is to embroider it.  🙂

Today's design is no different.  In fact it was a bit more fun in that it provided my first glimpse at layering heat transfer vinyl (HTV).  This past weekend my husband and I stopped into our local sewing store - The Sewing Corner - to talk to them about sewing machines since my 20+ year old Babylock is on its last legs.  While there we checked out their selection of HTV and I picked up some glitter as well as this beautiful Love Script.  I already had one design in mind when I saw this but then when I was going through the selection of SVG files at the Applique Corner I found this beautiful Valentine's Day Butterfly and had to use it for this design as well.

I love how the colors worked together and the printed HTV gives the finished project a little something extra.  Needless to say, it's bye bye boring onesies from here on out.

Love You Onesie

My husband surprised me with a heat press for Christmas!!!  I've only been wanting one for over a year and dropped quite a few hints last year.  I guess it's best that he waited because we had a new sewing store come in to town and we were able to learn more about the difference in heat presses so we could make a more informed decision about which one to buy.

When all was said and done I had my eye on a digital clamshell press (I've seen this model go by different names when I looked it up on the net.  And we bought ours locally - for a little less - but this link will at least give you needed information.)  This model has a digital read out for the temperature and the press time, a 15 x 15 inch heated platen surface and an over the center pressure adjustment to allow for a smoother more evenly distributed pressure, etc.

Since I didn't realize I was getting this jewel for Christmas and since hubby wasn't sure what designs I'd be making there was no HTV in the house to play with.  Except, some of the inexpensive Cricut iron-on material I used for t-shirt I made my son over a year ago (which peeled up).  But since were playing with a first press we thought what the heck it's not like we'd be losing anything.

The vinyl was red and I thought it would be perfect for a Valentine's Day kinda project so I turned to the Silhouette Design Store and found this cute I Love You Teddy Bear file by Jamie Koay.  Not only is it perfect for Valentine's Day but it's also perfect for anytime so I did buy the commercial license because I see other onesie's in my future.  😉
