Summer Love: The Birds & The Bees & The Flowers...

Even though Labor Day usually marks the end of Summer, it is still Summer here at 2805.
Though very hot, it's nice compared to last year.
The flowers have thrived.

The hibiscus bloomed daily

The ferns survived

It's been a somewhat pleasant Summer, as Summers go, as long as you are in the shade

Or around the table

With the wind chimes, chiming,

The sound of water in the fountain,

The happy sound of children (my sister's grand babies) laughing and splashing in the pool

Then there are the cute critters:
Frogs,

 The birds

 And the bees,

The elusive butterfly.  I can never catch the big ones!

 Squirrels

And of course, the geckos, who sometime come indoors.

They play and they multiply. (Beware of National Geographic type picture!)

Ah, Summer love.

Outdoor Tweeking

This Summer, I  “tweaked”  the garden set that is in the back corner of our yard, near the pool.

The set itself is vintage,  steel mesh with bouncy chairs, but hard on a bare leg.  I didn’t  buy this vintage set, it was purchased new.  Hummmm

New, bright cushions were added to match the water of the pool.  Half -price plus 15%  coupon!  Gotta love it!    The color  of the water is always rich looking as when it was refinished a couple of years ago, we had blue quartz added to the finish.

This plant has really flourished in the shade, despite the heat!

It’s a pleasant place to sit in the evenings when it’s cool.  But, that’s been a while!

The Ducks were  playing in the Fountain until….

One duck quacked,  "Hey  guys,  come on."

His Mommy just gave him a Cookie!

Power Outage and Dark Clouds

Minutes after a power failure this afternoon (and this was no rolling blackout), I  became so excited.  I heard  a wind chime symphony.

The wind had blown a potpourri of crepe myrtle blooms into the pool.

Looked up and saw something I haven’t seen in maybe two months.  It was so exciting, I grabbed my camera!  Clouds!  They were dark.  It almost looked like rain.  There was even a distant rumble.

But did it rain?  Not. Even. A. Single. Drop!  We are stuck in a seemingly endless drought.

Now, back to the power outage problem.  It  happened about 4:30 in the afternoon.  After 65 days or so of temps above 100-degrees, and it was only 107-degrees today,  guess a large portion of our part of town just gave out today.
Exhausted!

I hope you will join me for
Potpourri  Friday
on September 2.

How Cool

The heat – it’s brutal!
The thermometer has been stuck at 104 since early June.  That changed last week  -  when it went up.  106, 108.
The official temp is 110, but it’s 113-degrees here  today.  More of the same tomorrow and  in the foreseeable future.
Rain – Zero chance of precipitation.

Even 6-Flags is closed in the afternoons this week.

So I’m thinking  of a cooler day.  One of water rafting on the Snake River in Idaho.

How cool

Was that?

It was

Pretty cool!

What's In a Name

 Who am I?

Is this too close?

OK.  Let's step back.
Is he friendly or scary looking?
A garden gnome or water elf ?
Not a medusa  even though he is stone.

Is he splashing water on his face
to keep cool?

 His hands are nice.

His bowl  is checked  ever so often, but so far  I've have found no coins.
Although he has been  standing around  against this wall  for several  years, he still doesn’t have a name.

What would you suggest?

Update:   One of my readers, Babs of Upstairs, Downstairs,  suggested he is a green man.  A search revealed that is what  he is.  A Green Man is a sculpture, drawing, or other representation of a face surrounded by or made from leaves.   Branches or vines may sprout from the nose, mouth, nostrils or other parts of the face and these shoots may bear flowers or fruit.
