Freakin' Back to School

Welcome to the Freak Tour!!! This month we are going "Back to School" with a few things to get you in the mood for it! You should just have come from the blog of my BFF, JanTink ... she is a WIZARD!!! A stampin' GEENYUS, right??

I have spent the weekend moving my baby girl away to college ... sigh ... and I made her this little tag for her backpack. Not even sure she will actually USE it (she might hang it above her desk in the dorm), but it was fun making her SOMEthing for school. This is going to be sooo strange not having to wake ANYone up in the mornings!!

Stamps: Perfectly Preserved
Paper: Early Espresso, Cajun Craze, Very Vanilla, Orchard Harvest DSP
Ink: Cajun Craze, Lucky Limeade
Accessories: Window Frames Framelits, 1 3/8" and 1 1/4" Circle Punch, Typeset Alphabet Bigz Die, Woodgrain Textured Impressions Embossing Folder, Linen Thread, Designer Naturals Button, Ball Chain

Next ... how about a card to put a smile on the teacher's face? I was going for the "blackboard" look with this one ... VERY simple, but I like how it turned out. (And that Chevron embossing folder is becoming my new favorite, I tell ya!)

Stamps: Perfectly Preserved, Fabulous Phrases
Paper: Cherry Cobbler, Basic Black, Whisper White
Ink: Basic Black, Whisper White

And lastly ... I made this for another one of my BFF's, Kathy ... she is an inspiration to me. She has NINE children!!! She is bringing three of her daughter's to Utah from Minnesota for college this week (she has four older daughters who are out of school, and two boys left at home!). This card is for HER ... happy for her to have all the kids back in school so that she can have some PEACE and QUIET!!! Love ya, girlie!!

Baby Bargello

After you have been making cards for a while you kinda get into a groove ... find your own style You get to a point where you feel like you've "been there/done that" ... which has been happening to me a LOT lately!! It is only once in a blue moon that i see something that is "new" to me, or that I think is super cool and fun. That is how this bargello technique has been for me. I've seen a lot of "quilted" backgrounds done in a lot of different ways, but I love the uniqueness of this technique, and how easy it really is to do.

Here is a link to a tutorial done by Joan Ervin over on SCS. Totally LOVE it!!

Joan's Bargello Tutorial

Ii actually did this as a sample to teach my Stamp Club ladies. It looks like it's going to be tricky, which can be overwhelming. My friends were glad to see that it was also easy to do. Gotta love THAT!

By the way, Mother Nature is messing with my psyche ... I was admiring the pansies, daffodils and hyacinths that have been making their way out this past week. Then ... BAM!! I woke up yesterday morning to this view out my front door ... while I'll have to admit that snow IS purdy, I am reaaaallllllyyyy getting ready for something new, aren't you??? ('cept if you are in the southern hemisphere, then you are just coming in to winter!!)Smiley from millan.net

Off to start a new day ... enjoy your Monday everyone!!

Bargello???

I wasn't quite sure what this meant when I first saw it for the Technique Lover's Challenge over on SCS (TLC313). I mean ... what the heck???? In the end, I ended up LOVING this technique. You can check out Joan Ervin's tutorial HERE.

Pretty danged cool, eh? I actually did this for VSN (Virtual Stamp Night - FEB11VSND). The challenge for THAT was to use at least two different techniques on your card, so I tried the Bargello thing with some good ol' dry embossing. Have to say that I {{HEART}} this Bargello thing!! Smiley from millan.netI'm DEFINITELY gonna do it again!! Too-too fun!! (And I LOVED pulling out some of my old-time-fave DSP - Bella Bleu!!)

Ink: Not Quite Navy, Crumb Cake, Very Vanilla, Bella Bleu DSP
