Dear Abby - Vintage New Year Dachshunds

Happy New Year, Dear Friends!

I am so glad to be back chatting with you.  I had a wonderful break with my Momma and am eager to visit with you here.   I have some fun plans for the upcoming weeks on my blog, but today I thought I would share a few vintage New Year dachshunds with you.

A dachshund helps her person blow up balloons on this Calling All Girls magazine cover, January 1960.

This Calling All Girls cover features a dachshund helping her person make noise (January 1963).

The rest of the pictures are from vintage postcards.  Some dachshunds sample champagne!

This dachshund contemplates a beverage.

These dachshunds find January 1 on a calendar.  (They also have some clover for luck!)

Another dachshund finds a calendar ... this time in an old fashioned basket.

These dachshunds make a snowman!

They even protect their snowman with an umbrella!

I hope you enjoyed these vintage images.  Please visit again next week - I have a fun question for you!

Have a wonderful weekend, and Happy New Year!

Love,

Dear Abby - Vintage Thanksgiving Dog Illustrations

Dear Friends,

I am taking next week off for some family time, but I wanted to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving and share a few vintage Thanksgiving illustrations of dogs.

Calling All Girls magazine from 1960.  A young girl shares the wishbone with her dachshund.

Calling All Girls magazine from 1962.  A girl eats Thanksgiving lunch while her dachshund watches from the window.  (I am sure he will get some food too!)

Betsy McCall paper doll page from McCall's magazine.   "Betsy has a wonderful Thanksgiving."  Little illustration of Betsy's dog Nosy.

Saturday Evening Post magazine from 1933.  Three beagles are determined to share the Thanksgiving turkey!

Household magazine from 1952.  A busy Thanksgiving kitchen is pictured, complete with the family's eager dog.

Two beagles in this A.E. Kennedy illustration succeed at pulling the turkey off the table!

Vintage Thanksgiving postcard of a bulldog watching a Turkey.

A happy little dog sits in a chair at Thanksgiving on this postcard.  "For what we are about to receive let us be Thankful."

This World War II vintage illustration is from 1945.  The family dog helps a mother and her son, a sailor, cook dinner.  The illustration is by J.C. Leyendecker.

This illustration, also by J.C. Leyendecker for The American Weekly magazine, shows a little boy carrying a turkey home - although his little terrier dog thinks it is for him.  This is a 1950 illustration.

A maid carries a turkey while the family's dog follows eagerly.  This illustration is dated 1905.

This postcard depicts a man in Pilgrim clothes bringing a pumpkin and basket of apples home, with the help of his dog.

I hope you enjoyed these vintage Thanksgiving dog pictures.  And more importantly, I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!   I am grateful for readers and friends here, and look forward to catching up with you again in a couple of weeks.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Love,

Dear Abby - Happy Thanksgiving

Dear friends,

I hear that next week is Thanksgiving!  That means yummy food and the National Dog Show.  It also is a nice reminder to be thankful for good things in our lives.

Readers, I am thankful for YOU.  I have loved the wonderful stories and photos you have shared of your fur-kids in Rescue Spotlights and Pet Meet and Greet posts here.  I enjoy every single comment that you leave, especially the ones about your pets.

Thank you for visiting my blog and for loving animals and for supporting rescue!

Today I will just share a few vintage Thanksgiving images with you.  Above, you will see a girl eating turkey while her dachshund watches.  (He has a bone to chew on.)  It is a cover illustration of Calling All Girls magazine from the early 1960's.

Below you will find a vintage postcard showing two black and tan dachshunds meeting some turkeys.  I wonder how that went?!

This vintage Thanksgiving greeting card features two little puppies playing on a great big pumpkin.  That looks like fun!

This is another vintage greeting card (1940's).  It shows a little terrier dog actually riding on a turkey!

Thank you again for stopping by!  What are you thankful for this year?  If you have pets, do they get special treats on Thanksgiving?  I'd love to hear from you in the comments, below.

Love,

Abby xoxoxo

Dear Abby - Valentine Covers of Calling All Girls Magazine

Dear Friends,

It's almost Valentine's Day - a day of love.  Sigh!  I celebrate love every day.  I honestly can say I love everyone I meet.

I have some cute pictures to share with you today.  They are Valentine covers from Calling All Girls magazine.  This magazine was popular in the 1950's and 1960's, and the illustrations often featured a dachshund on the front cover.  How neat is that?!

This cover, from February 1960, shows a girl decorating a heart-shaped cake with the help of her dachshund.  (I bet the doxie will get a piece of cake!)

The dachshund on the cover of this February 1961 magazine is taking a break from helping with a Valentine project.  From the expression on the girl's face, I wonder if the dachshund may have helped a little too much.

At a Valentine's Day party, a girl is playing pin the tail on the dachshund.  Of course, her loyal doxie is helping.  This illustration is from February 1962.

This February 1963 Calling All Girls cover is all about perfume ... and since dachshunds are scent hounds, I bet the doxie will find a way to help.

Wishing you a happy Valentine's Day!  I hope you enjoyed these vintage illustrations.

As always, I love to read your comments, as well as questions for future Dear Abby posts.

Love and xoxoxo,

Abby
