Dear Friends,
I want to thank you all for reading my blog this year, and wish you a happy holiday season! I am taking some time off from blogging until the New Year. I will be back the second Friday in January (January 10) and look forward to catching up then.
I have big plans for the holidays including sleeping, snuggling, opening presents, eating treats, visiting with company, and sleeping and snuggling some more!
Here are a few vintage Christmas photos that feature dachshunds. These were long ago and I don't know the people or the dogs, but the dachshunds all look so happy and loved!
A woman in a cheery red dress sits in front of an old fashioned Christmas tree with her dachshund. That tinsel on the tree looks fascinating!
A man shares a Christmas stocking with his dog (on second glance, this may be a little Chiweenie pup).
A dachshund happily watches a very young Santa Claus in this black and white photo.
I hope you have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! I look forward to chatting with you more in 2020.
Love,
Abby xoxoxo

Dear Abby - Vintage Christmas Dog Photos
Dear Friends,
I am planning to take some time off with my Momma for Christmas and New Year's, so I wanted to wish you a very happy holiday season.
I also thought you might enjoy a few vintage dog photographs.
A dachshund sits with her mother in front of an old fashioned Christmas tree:
A child in a Santa suit plays with a handsome dachshund:
A little chihuahua peeks out from some packages under the tree (1971):
A cat and dog sit together on the sofa with some Christmas decorations:
A little terrier dog rests among the gifts on Christmas morning:
A dog enjoys Christmas with a little boy and his mother:
Thank you for visiting, and Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you and yours!
Love,
Abby xoxoxo

Dear Abby - Vintage Halloween Dogs
Dear Friends,
Happy ALMOST Halloween! Are you ready for Halloween? I am looking forward to a quiet holiday, with extra treats and happy music when the trick or treaters come by. I like children, but don't like loud noises at the door, so I stay in the bedroom all safe and comfy on Halloween night.
When I'm not playing, walking, snuggling, and blogging, I like to collect dog theme vintage cards, photos, postcards, and images. I would love to share some vintage Halloween dogs with you today.
This Calling All Girls magazine features a girl dressed as a witch -- and her dachshund rides on the broom!
Betsy McCall paper dolls like this came in McCall's magazines back in the 1960's. These Betsy McCall pictures feature Betsy's dachshund, Nosy, playing on Halloween.
This children's book, Fall is Here, has an illustration of two children carving a jack o'lantern with the help of their cocker spaniel.
A cute Scottish Terrier is pictured on this 1940's vintage greeting card.
A beagle finds his person - even in a costume! - on this Wee Wisdom magazine cover.
In this vintage photo, a Boston Terrier dog is dressed up as a sailor for Halloween. I think the shadow in the foreground looks spooky!
A boy wears a Halloween advertising pattern costume, and his dog is dressed up too in this vintage photo.
Extra spooky! A child is ready to trick or treat as their dog watches in this vintage photo.
This cute vintage photo features a little clown and his dog.
A little girl is dressed up for Halloween, and waiting with her dog in this antique photo.
Aww! I love this vintage photo. I hope this sweet looking dog gets lots of treats.
In this vintage photo a cat and dog go trick or treating together.
This vintage postcard features a boy and girl with their cat and dog.
A sweet little terrier dog helps his boy line up Jack O' Lanterns on this vintage postcard.
This vintage postcard has a black cat peeking out of a jack o' lantern and greeting a dog.
An owl and dog play near a big jack o' lantern on this Halloween postcard.
Two dogs are surprised when a cat peeks out of a jack o' lantern on this vintage postcard.
I hope these fun vintage postcards put you in a Halloween mood. If you have cats or dogs, do they enjoy greeting trick or treaters? Do your pets like to dress up for Halloween? I'd love to hear from you in the comments, below!
Have a great weekend and Happy Halloween!
Love,

Dear Abby - Pets in Halloween Costumes
Dear Friends,
I hear Halloween is coming very soon (i.e. tomorrow!). I asked some of my friends if they had photos of their pets in Halloween costumes to share. They sent some wonderful pictures, and I can't wait to share them with you!
First, let's see if you recognize this little dog:
Yes, you're right - it's me! I don't mind wearing the angel wings, but my halo kept going crooked.
This is my friend Kobi dressed as a banana:
These are my dear friends Señor Miguel Luis y Señorita Lili. They live in Mexico!
Here is my great pal Gizmo dressed as a pumpkin:
Gizmo likes to dress up! This year he has a Yoda costume:
This is Louie dressed as Eeyore. He is so cute! I love Chihuahuas.
The next few pictures are of my late friend J.R. He was a wonderful dachshund who lived a very long, wise life, and he ran lots of dachshund rescue fundraiser auctions. He was considered a hero in the dachshund community because he helped so many rescue dogs! J.R. in a jaunty cap:
J.R. as a cowboy:
J.R. as a bunny rabbit:
J.R. in hunting gear (remember dachshunds are naturally hunting dogs and were once trained to hunt for badgers!):
Here is Romy as the Tin Man:
Meet Remy as Dorothy:
This is Bogey as the Cowardly Lion:
Here are Bogey and Remy as Minions:
None of my kitty friends wanted to put on costumes for the holiday, but two of my guinea pig pals sent festive Autumn pictures! This is Radar exploring some little pumpkins:
And here is Radar's sister, Magenta. She looks ready for Fall too!
And just for good measure, here is one more picture of me, still in angel costume:
Wishing you a happy and safe Halloween! Please remind your people to keep candy up high out of the reach of furbabies, and to provide a safe and secure place for pets indoors if trick or treaters are visiting your home. Have fun, and please leave comments below!
Love and Halloween xxx's,
Abby
