This is a place for any extant garments in private collections from about 1941 back. There is no beginning date. The only rule is that it can't be currently in a museum and must be before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. I mostly post items I've seen on ebay, etsy, or other auction sites so we will continue to have a record of them for research purposes. If you have antique clothing in your collection, please, email me pictures of them and I will gladly add them to this site.

A really good costume to look like a late Regency dress
From the seller:
Beautiful and superb antique English twill silk dress in beige old rose and dating to about 1825. It is known as a "walking dress", and would have been worn for afternoon outings. There is beautiful shoulder detail, which is repeated on the long sleeves, fixed belt around the waist, and padded hem. It is partially lined in cream silk. Dresses from this period are hard to find in such good condition, and this would display beautifully on a mannequin, with some accessories. My mannequin is a little small, so the the dress sags a little on the shoulders, making the sleeves appear longer than they really are.
The condition is very good. There is some splitting to the cream lining, which does not show of course, and a little to the padded hem. There are some hooks and eyes missing at the back closure. Apart from this the whole dress is very good and in strong condition. There are some shadows on the dress which is from the lighting. The silk is perfect.
Please note; my relatively low start price does not reflect the value of the gown.
Measurements: Length 55". Across shoulder 19". Waist across 15" (so a large waist but variable with the belt).
From Me:
I'm really glad no one bid on this one because it's not a late 1810s/early 1820's dress like it looks to be. The easiest way to tell -as it usually is- is with the interior shot. See the hooks and eyes? Look at the stitch lines beneath the hooks and eyes. Yeap, machine sewn on the edge. (The inner most edge appears hand sewn but the middle one looks machine. The shoulder in that shot looks machine as well) If you look at the shoulder detail, you'll see machine sewn stitches there too. My guess is this is fairly modern - late 20th century at it's earliest.

Lot of 20th Century Wardrobe
From the seller:
You are bidding on a lot of 10 vintage/antique women's nightgowns, slips and clothing. I had these looked at by a seller who deals in vintage clothes, and was told that, depending on the item, they are made of cotton, silk, crepe or rayon. The ages of the items vary from Victorian to WWII. Please check the photographs!!
These all belonged to my great grandmother and her sisters, henceforth the variety of sizes, styles, etc. They have not been used in many years, and have been stored in a large plastic clothes bag. I have not attempted to clean or iron them, so I will leave that up to you!
The overall condition for these is good. That being said, some do require some minor repairs. All of these have the original ties, buttons and rossettes where appropriate. A few buttons are missing. Please check the photographs!!
A nice collection of vintage women's clothes for one low price!
I will carefully pack these in a single box for shipping. Payment must be received with 5 days of close of auction. There are no returns.
From Me:
I was hesitant to post this one. Although I'm pretty sure the dress is Edwardian and the combinations are too, the rest is - most likely- modern. Or, rather, modern-ish. The very pale blue looking dress is a recreation, I think. It's hard to tell. The short "petticoat" that has an elastic waist ([insert facepalm here]) is very similar to one I bought at Old Navy two years ago for Easter.
So, take this lot with a grain of salt.

Reproduction (?) 1914 Dress
From the seller:
Inventory no: Wdr 1086
Absolutely stunning ,romantic, sweet afternoon Art Nouveau dress, could
easily have been worn as a wedding dress.
This dress has a high waist, but not quite a empire waist.
The cummerbund featured, did not come with this dress, but a similar
was surely worn or it was worn with a wide ribbon.
Cummerbund is not included in auction. It will be sold separately.
The top part has many fine sewn pleats.
The sleeves are cut fairly full with lace inserted and several fine
more narrow lace pieces.
The skirt part has a soft peplum overskirt with embroidered wedding wreaths.
The hem of the peplum has squared off scallops, the details of this dress is
so amazing.
The bolero is cut a little more loose ,and is entirely made of thin strips
of linen and very fine lace. The bolero`s two front panels are a little longer
and dip down in front.

Condition chart:
$ MINT : Either, never worn or still with tags,
its in pristine condition
* Excellent : Worn, but does not show any signs of wear,
that I can see.
+ Great : Worn but near perfect . Small signs here and there .
Pinholes barely detectable flaws, remember it is vintage.
~ Good: Still wearable but needs repair ( new zippers, small holes ,
fading repairs, etc.) AS IS
! Fair : Most likely not wearable for study or pattern making.
From Me:
The style is correct for the mid teens but the lace along the sleeves looks very new. Also, the belt looks new too. My guess is this is a reproduction and not an extant gown. I wanted to post it anyway to show how difficult it is sometimes to tell the difference.

Re-Enactor's Dress?
From the seller:
Civil War Era Ca 1860's Blue Cotton Work Dress MED
This Civil War era dress is made from a blue print cotton, it hooks down the front, the bodice is lined in brown cotton and the skirt has side seam pockets. It has a band collar and dropped shoulders, the hem is faced in calico. It's cut full in the waist, maybe a maternity dress. It has very minor fading, hooks and eyes are a little rusty, one missing, few very small holes. It measures 41 inches around the bust, across the back shoulder is 15 1/2, waist is 33 1/2 inches and is 52 1/2 inches. Very good vintage condition.

From Me:
I'm hesitant to post this one. Although it *could* be an actual mid 1860's day dress, it really looks like a good reproduction for a larger lady to me. The way the lining is done, the overall style - it just looks too much like a (modern) camp follower's dress that they decided to get rid of.
