A little magic goes a long way . . .
Alexandra Belle Boyette is closing in on the big 3-0 and her mama has made it her mission to marry her off. In the tiny parish of Bayou Miste, deep in the Louisiana swamps, finding suitable hubby material can be a challenge—and Alex would rather not rely on magical spells to do the trick. But there is a sexy new man in town who might fit the bill . . .
Ed Marceaux is in Bayou Miste to safeguard a key witness to a Louisiana Mafia murder. He must keep an eye out for suspicious characters—but the place seems to be full of them! What could be stranger than a woman dressed in a sexy nightgown chasing a naked man down the street? The enchantingly gorgeous Alex Boyette certainly makes it worth his while to find out . . .
Add a Voodoo spell gone wrong, and voila! madness—and love—ensues.

Review:
Deja Voodoo is the third book in Elle James's Cajun Magic series and was just as much fun to read as the previous books. These stories don't need to be read in order as they all feature a different main couple but you will find familiar characters re-appearing throughout the series and in this case our heroine Alex is the sister of Ben, the hero from Voodoo for Two. This is a really light hearted series full of hunky Cajun heroes and just a hint of magic but I think the thing I enjoy most about it is the Bayou setting.
As the oldest girl in the Boyette clan Alex has spent years taking care of her younger siblings so the last thing she wants is to get married and start having children of her own. She's happy to put her energy into her business and wants to live her own life for a change but her mother has other ideas and is constantly trying to set her up with eligible bachelors. Ed is a colleague of her brother Ben and he is in the Bayou to protect a witness for a murder trial. He has a job to do and isn't looking for any entanglements but everything about Alex gets his blood pumping and she isn't easy to stay away from. Throw in a magic spell gone awry and things are about to get interesting.
I love the Boyette family, they are such a huge family and although they have their arguments just like anyone else they're really close knit and protective of each other. As one of the oldest Alex is like a second mother to the younger ones and they all rely on her for advice and assistance. She's never really had the chance to go off and do her own thing but she doesn't resent that, she loves her family and would do anything for them but she's now ready to spread her wings and start to live a little. Ed is a great guy, he is protective and caring but he has a playful side that Alex brings out in him and they fit together really well. It doesn't help that Ed isn't able to come clean with Alex about why he is in town though, he is in disguise as a tourist so that people can't track down his witness and that isn't easy for him but they have something special and he is willing to work for it. I enjoyed the romance between these two, they were very sweet together.
There is a good amount of action to add some tension to the story and I have to tell you how much I loved the side story with Alex's dog Spot - I can't say more without giving spoilers but it was hilarious! Deja Voodoo was a nice addition to the series, I'm not sure if Elle James has more stories planned but if she does they'll definitely be on my wish list.

Review: Voodoo for Two - Elle James
Be careful what you wish for…
Determined to marry the most eligible bachelor in the parish to save her family, Lucie LeBieu turns a “love bug” loose to cast its Voodoo spell. What she doesn’t count on is hitting two targets—the golden boy congressional candidate, and her Cajun-hot ex. To set things right, she must undo the spell before she falls into bed—-and back in love—with a certain down and dirty heartbreakin' cop.
Undercover investigator Ben Boyette is back in Louisiana on special assignment when he runs across his old flame, brewing up trouble as usual. But when hometown threats turn deadly, Lucie's life is on the line. Determined to protect both her and his politician assignment from falling victim to a murderer, Ben finds that he's the one who's falling hard...for the irresistible bayou temptress.

Review:
Lucie will do anything to help her family, even if it means marrying a guy she doesn't love so that she can help her grandmother financially. Eric is a wealthy politician who can not only help her family but who would also be Lucie's ticket out of the Bayou and into the life she's always wanted. Determined to catch the eligible bachelor Lucie turns to voodoo to make sure she wins his heart. Unfortunately for her she isn't very good at casting spells and her love bug ends up on the loose causing chaos in the bayou. Things are complicated further by the return of her ex boyfriend Ben, it has been 7 years since she last saw him but she can't deny the attraction that still simmers between them. Lucie must decide whether to follow her head and marry Eric or to entrust her heart to Ben for a second time.
I really enjoyed the first book in this series so I jumped at the chance of reading Voodoo for Two when I was offered a review copy by Entangled Publishing. This was a fun and light hearted romance that is full of humour and hot chemistry but I have to admit I didn't enjoy it quite as much as Voodoo on the Bayou. Having said that this was still an enjoyable read and I'm definitely planning on reading the next instalment (Deja Voodoo) when it is published in June.
I think the main reason I didn't enjoy this quite as much is that I wasn't a huge fan of Lucie. I could understand her motivations for wanting to marry Eric but when she started to realise that she still had feelings for Ben I was annoyed that she kept playing Eric along for so long. I just felt she started to come across as really selfish when she was saying to herself that Eric deserved someone who actually loved him but then decided to carry on with her plans anyway. It also seemed like she was messing Ben around and neither of the guys deserved that. When she finally made up her mind to break the spell I started to like her again though and by the end she had redeemed herself. I absolutely loved Ben though, he was one sexy Cajun with a bad boy smile and a heart of gold. He had his heart broken by Lucie years ago but he knows that there is something special between them and he sets out to prove it to her.
Alongside the romance you have the antics of Lucie's love bug which were quite amusing to watch and I enjoyed getting to spend time with some of the other crazy bayou characters. I have to say I was slightly disappointed in the latest development between the previous couple Craig and Elaine and I really hope that gets addressed in the next instalment. One of my favourite characters in this story was Lucie's best friend Alex (who also happens to be Ben's sister), she was often the voice of reason and wasn't afraid to tell Lucie exactly what she thought of her plans. I would really like to see Alex get her own story and I'd quite like to see Eric get a happy ending of his own because they both deserve it, I'm not sure if I picture them together though so I guess I'll just have to wait and see who the author has lined up for the next book. If you're looking for a fun series full of magic and mayhem then I'm sure you'll enjoy these stories. I know I'll be reading more from Elle James in the future.

Voodoo for Two Blog Tour: Bayou Finds and Shenanigans by Elle James + International Tour Wide Giveaway
I really enjoyed Voodoo in the Bayou, the first book in Elle James's Cajun Magic series, so I couldn't wait to get my hands on a copy of the sequel Voodoo for Two. I enjoyed this one just as much as the first (I'll be posting my review later today) so now I'm eagerly waiting for the third instalment, Deja Voodoo!
To celebrate the release of Voodoo for Two I have a wonderful guest post for you from Elle James all about her adventures in the bayou - she is much braver than I am that's for sure! Before I hand over to Elle let me give you a bit more information about the book:

Bayou Finds and Shenanigans
by Elle James
I love to travel and research the places I want to write about. My husband was born in Louisiana and many of his relatives live there. He took me back a couple times to visit his grandfather and we had the pleasure of crabbing in the canals. Now you might ask, how do you catch crabs in a canal? You tie a string around a chicken neck and throw it out in the water and wait until a crab finds it, latches on for feeding, then you slowly reel him in and scoop him up with a net! Easy, right? Only you have to keep an eye open for alligators. They like chicken necks too. And what do you do when you get an alligator on your chicken neck?
Give him the chicken neck!
But I digress, this was supposed to be about what you find in the bayous. Oh, yeah. Alligators, crabs, cypress knees and crazy Cajuns! That's right. My sister and I took an airboat tour with one of them. He gave us the thrill ride, racing across the water straight for a tree! At the last moment he cut left. I thought for sure I was a goner. If that wasn't frightening enough, he went on a quest to show us some of the alligators in the swamp. One he found was twelve feet long and looked like he could swallow us whole. Did he leave the gator alone? Nooooo. He tempted it with raw meat and the gator came close enough, the crazy Cajun grabbed his tail and hauled it halfway on board our little airboat. "Wanna pet it?" he asked.
And what do you think my answer was? That's right. "Hell, yeah!" So I risked life and limb to pet the twelve-foot alligator. Take that fellow wimps on the airboat! Booyah! This grandma ain't no sissy! He then took us to visit an alligator nest. The eight foot mamma guarding the nest was a lot fiercer than the big boy I petted. And no, I wasn't gonna reach my hand out anywhere near mamma gator. No sirree, my mamma didn't raise no dummy!
In all seriousness, the bayou is a beautiful, magical place where your imagination can take even farther. If you ever get a chance to visit a bayou, take an airboat ride, pet an alligator and take lots of pictures! No one will believe you, if you don't.
CAJUN MAGIC Series coming out this year from Entangled Publishing. VOODOO ON THE BAYOU (Feb 2013), VOODOO FOR TWO (April 2013) and DEJA VOODOO ( Jun 2013)

Thanks for a fab guest post Elle, I would love to visit the bayou and take an airboat tour but I'm not sure I'd be brave enough to touch an alligator - especially one one that is twelve feet long! I loved looking at your pictures though :o)

Review: Voodoo on the Bayou - Elle James
“By day a frog, by night a man, ‘til de next full moon...”
At first, lawyer and ladies’ man Craig Thibodeaux thought Madame LeBieu’s chant was a strange bayou joke. But the voodoo worked and Craig is spending his days as...well, a small green frog. Now he has only two weeks to find love, or his new froggy transformation becomes permanent.
When she receives the anonymous toxic water sample from Bayou Miste, research scientist Elaine Smith decides a trip to the bayou is the perfect excuse to escape the lab, and forget about her cheating ex-fiancé. Then she accidentally stumbles upon Craig’s oh-so-fine naked form, and her science-nerd brain is overrun with naughty thoughts about her new gorgeous night-time bayou guide.
But there’s more to Bayou Miste than voodoo curses and sexy late-night trysts. Dark secrets threaten the delicate ecosystem, and there are those who would do anything to keep those secrets hidden. Even murder...

Review:
Ladies man Craig is a confirmed bachelor, happy to love women and leave them before moving on to the next one. His womanising ways get him into trouble when one of his dates gets revenge by asking a voodoo queen to curse him. Now Craig spends his days as a frog and his nights as a man and he only has until the next full moon to find someone to love him or he will be forced to live out the rest of his days as a frog. Elaine is a scientist who was sent an anonymous toxic water sample from someone in the bayou. She normally spends her days in the lab but she has a very good reason to want to get away for a bit so she decides to investigate the source of the pollution herself rather than send someone else to do it. Craig is Elaine's night time guide to the bayou and although they have an intense physical attraction will Craig really be able to win her heart in such a short amount of time?
I absolutely love fairytale retellings so as soon as I read the blurb for Voodoo on the Bayou I knew I had to read the book. I'm glad I did because this turned out to be such a fun story and it was one I thoroughly enjoyed. I was excited to learn that this is the first book in Elle James's Cajun Magic series and I can't wait to get my hands on the next instalment. I loved the setting for this story, as someone who has always wanted to visit New Orleans and the bayou I really enjoy reading books set there, especially ones that make it so easy to picture the scenery and the colourful characters who live there.
The best thing about this book was the characters though, Elaine is a highly intelligent and compassionate woman but she has spent most of her life buried in her studies or lab work which makes her quite innocent when it comes to interacting with people. She isn't a naive little virgin but she has never really explored her sexuality or her passionate side. Craig works as a high powered lawyer and his goals in life revolve around making partner in the family firm while avoiding commitment when it comes to women. He is happy to play the field but he does always make it clear upfront that he isn't interested in a long term relationship. Elaine turns his life upside down, she makes him question his way of life and she makes him want to be a better person. At the same time he brings out a more playful and fun side to Elaine and helps her let her hair down. They are complete opposites but they work really well together and their chemistry was hot enough to blow the roof off!
Alongside the romance you also have the mystery about who is poisoning the bayou which added a nice extra element to the story. It doesn't take long before Elaine and Craig attract the wrong kind of attention during their investigation and they soon find their lives at risk. Voodoo on the Bayou is a fairly light hearted paranormal romance and it was a book I found incredibly easy to devour. This was the first book I've read by Elle James but it definitely won't be the last and I'm already looking forward to Voodoo for Two which is published in April. If you like fairytale retellings and you like the sound of an adult version of The Frog Prince then you're going to love this book.

Fairytales aren’t just for Kids
by Elle James
No matter how old we are, we can still believe in fairy tales and happily-ever-afters. But we don’t have to settle for the same old tales. Look at the latest fairytale movies retold: Snow White and the Huntsman, Mirror Mirror, and Red. Also, check out the television programs like Grim and Once Upon a Time. Each of these shows are the retelling of old favorites, giving them a twist and a new life.
That’s what I did with VOODOO ON THE BAYOU. I took The Frog Prince, a familiar fairytale and gave it a new twist. The story gave me a chance to build a whole new community in the Louisiana bayous, fill it with interesting, fun characters with stories to tell and flavored it with suspense, Cajun spice and Voodoo. This book started as the retelling of a fairytale and, because of the Voodoo, characters and setting, became a series. Stick around for more fun in the bayou!
What favorite fairytale would you like to see rewritten?
********************
Thanks so much for stopping by Elle, I'm really excited to learn that Voodoo on the Bayou is going to be the first book in a series - I can't wait to see which fairytale you rewrite next!
Giveaway Details:
Elle is very generously offering a signed paperback copy of her novel The Witch's Initiation to one of my readers. Here is a bit more information about the book:
Chicago's top undercover cop, Cal Black, has faced his share of danger, but he's never tangled with the paranormal until now. His mission is simple: to investigate the disappearance of a sorority girl from a private college. But there are two complications: the girl's a witch. And her sister is the enchantress who broke his heart.
Deme Chattox isn't looking for a man. Especially a bad boy like Cal, even though every inch of her body remembers the magic of his touch. What she is looking for is her little sister and Deme is determined to find her without Cal's expertise. The other Chattox sisters - and their mystical powers - are all the help she needs. That is, until they unearth a terrifying secret buried deep underground - and Deme finds herself possessed by a desire that threatens to destroy her.
