Real #NLWX | Simple Scrapper

There’s no other way to say it except that the weather can really get you down in Newfoundland. Our winters are incredibly long - you have to find a way to make your own sunshine.   Twenty-seventeen is starting out with  a consistent snowfall and then back to back blizzards in February. March brought a wind storm that nobody has seen in 60 years.  Winds were clocking at 160 km/h and we saw siding flying off our house. It’s days like this that you question why it is that you live here. Then you put on your snowsuit onto go out to shovel but your neighbour has already done it for you.
Then you remember...
I love this place & the people in it.

This 8.5"x11" scrapbook page was created for Spark Magazine and was inspired by journalling prompts. These tools are available with a membership at Simple Scrapper.  For more information , pop over to the Simple Scrapper website led by Jennifer Wilson.

December Daily Hopes | December Daily

Like prior years, I am documenting my December in the footsteps of Ali Edwards.  I have my own process, which she encourages.  You'll find that every year I am caught up everyday in the first week of December.  However, if I am again like prior years, I'll be finishing this album in the Fall months.  I don't let that put me down.  I'll say it again though - I'd like to document my stories every evening in the very least.  Creating a page with pictures printed would be a bonus.

I look forward to sharing with you MY December 2016.
And so it goes.. why do I do it?

I went to bed last night, on the Eve of December, while the kids were still awake. I couldn’t keep my eyes open any longer.  I had too many deadlines and too much work to catch up on the past few days and it was hitting me hard.  With the intend to wake up with the birds, I fell quickly into dreamland.  Tomorrow is December. Everyone in this household was excited.

And here we are.  I didn’t get up with the birds but I did get up before the sun.  It feels like December now.  A blanket of snow outside with paw prints from the day before.  They say 10 to 15 centimetres tonight. Will tomorrow be the first snow day?

I promised that we would decorate the tree tonight.  Something that Jane is so excited for. Jack on the other hand is more excited for Bucko, the elf to arrive and to dig into his advent calendar. I get the sense that even Rooney the dog is excited because she’s at my feet while I type… this is a far cry from her usual sloth stature taking over our king size bed refusing to budge until well after everyone is up.

You can feel it in the air.  The jingle. But you can also feel the hustle and bustle.  I love it. Everything about it.  I love the gatherings. I love the shopping deals.  I love all the food. Oh… the food! I love the effort that everyone puts in to connect.  It’s the time of month when memories are made.

So what’s my reason why? Why am I documenting my December? I am not sure.  I do wonder why I waste time and money on all, this not to mention I’ll have to buy a new house just to store them all.  But like many things, it fills me up.  I simply enjoy it.  If something makes you happy, there’s no need to look further for any other reason.  Isn’t that what we are all looking for? Happiness.

So Hello December 2016. I am so happy you’ve arrived.

dear santa + project life | #tgifc81

This week at TGIF Challenge Blog we are giving you a sketch.  I know most of you think cards when it comes to sketches but my mind always thinks about how to incorporate it into my memory keeping.

I wanted to let you in on a little secret I have when it comes to my Stampin' Up! Project Life kits.  They come with little stamp sets.  When I open them, I will often stamp the "extra bits" around the edges of the sticker embellishment sheets.  You will often see the ink spill over onto the outside of the sticker.  You can see above that this was how I created the sticker "This was amazing".

As some of you know, I have some news to share but I've just returned home from vacation and its my son's 4th birthday today.  I simply haven't had enough time to get my brain wrapped around everything.  Stay tuned!

In the mean time, every week the TGIF Challenge Blog issues a inspiration challenge where we ask you to link up your project.  Please join us - we look to see what you have created!

Every month I contribute to Creative Scrapbooker Magazine.

Be sure to check out the full story on their blog.

Every Summer Has a Story | Simple Scrapper

These pictures bring back memories from a year ago.

As many of you know, I scrapbook chronologically using both pocket pages and traditional layouts.  To make it work, I pick out what I want to scrapbook traditionally. After that, any pictures that are left must go in pocket pages. Usually that means, they will be placed in a "month in review" page such as the one above.

To understand more about my process, check out this post on Simple Scrapper.

There's no theme. No rhyme or reason to any of this. I am jumping brands and supplies.  With that said, I am known to try my best to use what's on my desk rather than move to get something else.

Do you have any tricks like mine? I'd love to here your tips!

Note: In order to get access to the sketch and story starters used to create this sketch, you must be a member of the Simple Scrapper community led by Jennifer Wilson.  I can assure you its worth it. Contact me if you would like more information!

Roots Project Life | Ali Edwards Story Kits

I came back from vacation.

I haven't been able to find much time to create but I put together this layout of my grandmother's 8-th birthday.  Theses are the stories that I want to keep because i know they are going to be few and far between.  I take a lot of photos and I want to remember.

Pocket Style scrapbooking works best for me when I have a lot of photos.

This is the back side of this layout.  I separated it between the dinner and outside when the kids ran wild.

Most of the supplies comes from older Ali Edwards Story kits, including the awesome acrylic word "roots". I have had 17 kits and have been a subscriber since day one and I continue to be inspired by the class that comes with the kit as well as the product.

Continue telling your stories, my friends

Love, Cath.

A sketch turned pocket style scrapbooking | #tgifc50

Hello Vacation is right.
By now I am two weeks into a vacation and probably getting a little antsy to get home. Either that or incredibly sad that I have to leave the sun and return to the unpredictable.

This layout was actually inspired by the TGIF Challenge sketch this week:

When I looked at this, I immediately saw an amazing scrapbook page but I simply wasn't in the mood.  I realized that this would work perfectly with Project Life.

The Summer bucket list is a real life thing that I have. I have it at the end of my planner and I add to it as I feel necessary. Although I wanted to knock off all these items this past summer, I did not.

That was fun.
Now, back to my vacation... as I am currently busy creating memories.

DO | Simple Scrapper

I don't always scrapbook about people but rather things that I am doing.  Lately, I've been busy getting organized.  It's a slow process but I can see a different in productivity, which is certainly ensuring I live a happy life. The little things seem to be

For this layout, I was inspired by Jennifer Wilson's story starters, which relate to the Spring Cleaning theme.  To find out more, you must become a member at Simple Scrapper.

As with many of my layouts these days, I continue to be inspired by Ali Edwards story kits.  This layout has some of those embellishments.

Check out those large alphas, which I believe came from Studio Calico.  I adhered those to a 4x4 transparency by stapling them.  This gave them the look that they are floating.

Come back again next month so I can show you my May Simple Scrapper layouts.

She turned 5 | Project Life

She turned 5 last summer.
The party was an equestrian party.
I got so many good shots so I decided to mix it up with a couple traditional layouts and a project life layout.

Most of the elements in both of these layouts come from the Ali Edwards story kits, a monthly subscription that I have been involved with since Day 1... and its still the first items I reach for when I start a new layout.

The rose gold "shine" comes from some Studio Calico grab bags that took advantage of during their Black Friday sale last year.

When I receive those grab bags each year, I separate everything and put them in dishes.  It's usually enough inspiration to keep me going throughout the year.

The love this, words, and chipboard comes from the kits.  The cork board hearts came from leftovers of a class I did at my local scrapbooking store, The Paperie.

In the top left corner you can see a quote over top a black and white photo. In each story kit, she includes a quote card.  Its not necessarily used in layout as they have story starters listed on the opposite side.  However, it was too perfect not to use in this circumstance.

Each kit usually comes with a chipboard pack, which always keeps me going when doing my pocket style layouts.

This is how the layout looks in my binder for those trying to decide whether they want to introduce different sizes.

Thanks for dropping by today!

My Florida Happy Place | Project Life

I've been lucky.

Very lucky.

My parents recently purchased a Florida home in sunny Venice, Florida. This is quite an amazing thing when you live on the most Easternly island of North America.  One in which virtually does not have a Spring: Instead it has a 9 month winter, a beautiful one month of Fall and 2 months of summer beginning in July.  Last year, we travelled to Florida 3 times and I would imagine that this schedule will continue despite the terrible dollar.

I decided that creating a Florida album would be the best way to suit my needs.  I remember May Flaum discussing how she has a camping album - this idea totally works for me.

The items used in creating this layout was a 'mish mash' of items but largely Ali Edwards story kits.  I love how these kits can be used for any type of memory keeping.

This journal card was from another one of Ali's story kits - I used photoshop and my computer to get the story written on the card.

I can honestly say that this home will definitely be one of my happy places.

Canada Day 2015 | #projectlife

eh?

catching up.

slowly.

very. very slowly.

The "eh?" card is from a printable and for the life of me I can't remember where now.  The majority of the rest of the elements are from the Ali Edwards story kits.

Happy Snowday. A-hem. Sunday. I mean Sunday.

My wish for 2016 in Project Life | #tgifc36

"Like every year, I want to be a better version of myself.  In 2016, I wish to be healthier, more connected and better organized. Last year, I made small changes and this year I intend to do the same.  I promise to plan my meals. I promise to do more weekend adventures. I promise to take a breath. I promise to simplify. I promise to do more walking. I promise to play more games, build more legos and colour more cards.  I promise to learn how to make videos and how to take beautiful pictures. I promise to only buy what I need. I promise to do date nights. I promise to learn more recipes. I promise to support my husband. I promise to put down my phone. I promise to go outside. I promise to live like its my day on Earth."

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

Documenting December with Hello December | Fancy Friday

Back again with another Fancy Friday. Things have changed around here though - you are in for a real treat as we have some fresh designers ready to blow your socks off.  Every single one of them have been or will be a Stampin' Up! Artisan!

This month's theme is Christmas using Non-Traditional Colours.
Immediately I decided to show off the Hello December 2015 Project Life kit.
I figured that the watercoloured blue wasn't the traditional green and reds.
To each their own, right?

For my album cover, I used the 6x8" Stampin' Up! kraft album and painted it using
white acrylic paint. I embellished using the Hello December Project Life Accessory kit
and the wooden snowflake embellishments.

Like many scrapbookers, I am documenting December in it's own album.  I am attempting to build the album and the foundation pages prior to the month so that I can quickly tell my stories and get the album completed. In order to build those pages, I wanted to think about our family events in the month of December before I started.  I printed a calendar and made scribbles - then I used washi tape to place it in the inside cover of my album.

Because I have over 30 foundation pages to show you, I thought it was best to show you a video where I flip through the album.  However, I have some of the layouts here as well.

Here's the video so that you can see it all - my apologies as its very amateur.  I just didn't have the time to properly edit it.  And as usual, the video cut off in the middle so its a little choppy.  Enjoy it all the same! (I totally just sold it, didn't I?)

Don't forget to add my channel - its brand spanking new!

Next up is my old friend, Erica Cerwin who is busy getting ready for her retreat in Texas!

Cathy

For anyone wishing to know what my December intentions are... here's what I wrote and included in my album:

Hello December.

Hello Jack Frost. Hello Red Starbucks cups. Hello Hustle & Bustle.

My oh my have we all been waiting for you.

Like most families, our calendars are jam packed with event after event. Our to do lists are longer than we can manage and our bellies are always full.  Families are making every effort to make it memorable.  All the stops are being pulled.  New hiding places for the elves are being researched. recipes are being shared.  Sleep is moved lower on the priority list.  We are no different than all those families.

I cannot wait.

Hello again December.

I’ve missed you.

I long to get up before the rest of the family and before the sun has risen to enjoy a cup of coffee in my chair in front of my perfectly decorated fireplace next to the white lights of the Christmas tree. I long to turn on The Grinch Before Christmas and eat popcorn under a Fort in the basement.  I long to get that perfectly ridiculous photo of my two children on Santa’s knee. I long to  see their faces on Christmas morning plowing through the stockings to find the candy and savagely tearing off the paper of each new toy.  I long to play with them. I long to eat turkey and dressing with gravy.

Oh December. A Big Hello to You.

This year Jack is speaking and understanding more about the Holidays. I am looking forward to his animation and reactions to the spirit of the Season.  This year I want to teach Jane about giving and the importance of the Season rather than just presents.  I am simplifying this year and I intend to be more present.   I will continue to an abundance of pictures but this time Jane will take her own as well.  We are growing as a family and it feels special in the month of December.

Let’s do this December.

Hello Good Times | Project Life

Hello Good Times.

I've been busy recording life these days!
And boy oh boy do I have a backlog.

Typically for each month, I have a Project Life spread where I place all the photos that I won't have on a page of its own.

This page includes a couple transparencies at the bottom.  I have a couple Project life cards that I found in my stash.  I altered the "recording life" card with some alphas.

This is the Life with #witl2015 | Fancy Friday

Welcome back to another Fancy Friday blog hop with some great friends that were united in 2013 as part of the Stampin' Up! Artisan Design Team!
This month's fancy friday blog hop is a colour challenge.
We'd love for you to play along.
If you do, just link up to any of our comments so we can check it out!

You are probably not surprised by now that I didn't take this challenge too literally.  If you were following along last week you can see that I was playing with the Week in the Life project (WITL).  So, I've been wanting to incorporate this project into my traditional and current scrapbook album.

But guess what?
The Project Life card collection called This is the Life has those colours!!
I was delighted and started to build my first page for Monday.
You can see my words and photos here.

The first page I just used some paper cut up from the neutrals DSP.  I also used the WITL graphic and digitally added the dates. On the back side as you can see above,  I added some pictures and one of the 4x6 cards, which is Bermuda Bay.

My plan is that for each day of the week, I'll use a page protector front and back.
Here's a look at the other side of my Monday WITL layout. You can see the Cucumber Crush coming into play here!!

See how I cut up a 4x4 card in the centre at top? Then I took out one 2x2 square and replaced it with a photo? You can see the missing card down below.  I feel like it really helps with tying it all together.

It should be clear by now that you really need the "This is the Life" Project Life card collection and accessory kit!!

If you have any questions or need any help with your own memory keeping, please feel free to drop me a line or join my Facebook group at In the Cat Cave.

Now you have to go check out Cindy!
