Your Snowzilla Soundtrack
I am pleased to report that I am still alive and kicking in the massive blizzard that's dumped a metric ton of the white stuff on a huge section of the country.
I am also pleased to report that Snowzilla has produced a peerlessly party-tastic soundtrack that is all the more remarkable for being from a rather unexpected source. Let's just say that's the best thing to come out of DC in months, if not years. Listen to this soundtrack to a livestream of the weather, and you'll see why people are freaking out about this.

800-Pound Snowball 1, Campus Housing 0
You've got to see the photos of the monster snowball that got away from its two math-major creators and smashed into a Reed College dorm, cracked its wall, and knocked it off its studs. Nobody was injured, so we call safely laugh out loud at this!

Obligatory Complaint About the Polar Vortex
I am frickin' freezing here! The wind chill is in the negatives. I can't tell if this is campus or the ice planet Hoth! Stuff like this convinces me that hell is a cold place, not a hot one. Perhaps my incandescent rage will keep me warm enough to prevent hypothermia. Thatisall.

Friday Fun Video: Russian Hitman vs. Snowmen

A Little Geographical Winter Weather Humor
Because it is freezing here! I'm sure it's also wintry where you are too. Snowfall totals, though, do differ ... Click to enlarge the image.

Snow in Jerusalem
Unusual ... and beautiful. Check out the photos. The image of snow-covered palm trees is especially striking, and the one of Netanyahu throwing snowballs darn amusing. You know, wouldn't it be nice if everyone could settle their differences with one epic snowball fight and then hot cocoa afterwards?

Quirky Euro Files: Sweden's Vasaloppet Cross-Country Ski Race
It's the biggest cross-country ski event in the world. The 2011 Vasaloppet took place on March 6, covered 90 km (that's nearly 56 miles), and involved nearly 15,000 ski enthusiasts! Check out this amazing video.

Nerd News: Canadian Priest Gets PhD in Snowboarding
I don't even know what to say about this one. Neil Elliot's degree was awarded by Kingston University in London, England. The nerdy, sporty priest wrote his diss on the spirituality of snowboarding.

Snowmageddon, Thundersnow, and A Mad Weatherman
Snowmageddon here at Nerdworld was pretty intense, but it apparently wasn't quite as crazy as the Chicago version! Check this out:

Snowmageddon Is Beginning!
OH BOY. Take a look at this satellite image! Credit and info: "This visible image was captured by the GOES-13 satellite and shows the low pressure area stretching from the Colorado Rockies and Texas east to New England. The image shows the storm on Feb. 1 at 1401 UTC (9:01 a.m. EST) by the NASA GOES Project, located at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md. The GOES series of satellites are operated by NOAA. Credit: NOAA/NASA GOES Project."
Well, it's now the Great Groundhog Day Blizzard of 2011 here in Nerdworld. Snow is hurtling out of the gray skies. Everything is shut down. Nobody is on the roads except for a few intrepid snowplows. It's a day for staying indoorsand working on papers and research and watching movies and baking cookies. UPDATE: And blogging about foreign policy.
