Wearable Art
by Tracey Capone

I love photography and how it allows us to capture special moments, places and people.  Taking great photos isn't just about clicking the shutter on a right angle or with perfect lighting.  Composing the right shot, knowing when to take it and how is an art form by itself.  And this is where my fellow Chicago artist and photographer, Tracey Capone excels.  Not only do I love her photographs, but I love her story.  A self-taught photographer who followed her passion after spending a good amount of years plugging away in the corporate world (just like me).  Her works and story are outstanding reminders that it's never too late to chase your dreams and the endless possibilities that will happen with it.

To learn more about Tracey, please visit her blog 'Life Through a Lens'.

If you want to be featured in The Morning Artist Blog, please drop me a note.

DIY Paper Luminaries Tutorial

Finally, here it is!
My long overdue tutorial on how to make your own Paper Luminaries.

Materials:
plain paper lantern (battery operated, for portability)
colored tissue paper (used ones will do)
round disk template (I used a CD cover)
scissors
permanent double sided tape (or glue gun if you prefer).
I like the tape, less messy and safe for little fingers (for little ones).

Step 1:
Using your round disk template, trace and cut circles from the paper tissues.
Short-cut Tip:
Fold the papers together for multiple cut-outs.

Step 2:
Fold each circle in half then glue or tape the middle in the paper lantern randomly.

Step 3:
Keep going until all circles are folded and taped/ glued to the lantern.

 Here, I'm halfway through.

Step 5:
Turn it on (make sure your batteries are new) and admire your luminary.

Step 6:
Make some more!  And have fun.

An Old Century Style

The classic triangular shawl is revisited. Using vintage style and pattern, I recreated one of the styles that made crochet popular in the late 1800s.

I couldn't help but think about the history of the needle art I came to love while doing this piece. Wondering how many women across centuries took the quiet time to finish the same project. Imagine from 1800s 'til today, this form of art ceaselessly persevered.

It was a joyful process to give life to a classic creation and give history a modern take.

Farmers Market

Summertime is farmers market time! Every weekend, I love strolling along the busy market downtown to buy fresh produce. Our two year old loves carrying my bag, filling it up with farm treasures along the way. He loves tasting the freshly baked baguette too!

We say 'no' to plastic bags whenever a vendor asks us if we want a bag or not. It feels good to know that we're helping in our own little way to minimize waste by using our own 'lovely' reusable bag. We are going 'green', are you?
