Take one old pine tray…….

Do you have something at home that you are dying to get stuck into with some paint to update it a little?? I have been looking at this old orange coloured pine tray for a while with the idea of stencilling numbers onto it but it has taken me about 6 months to complete!! Last weekend was really hot so I cranked up the air conditioner and worked away until it was finished. I am really pleased with it now but I’m trying to decide if I will sand it a little and shabby it up. Not sure yet…

I have an old pine hall table which I am thinking of giving a similar makeover. Maybe I will paint French script letters on that instead. I just hope it doesn’t take another six months to get that finished!!

Update at the beach house

I have been really loving the beautiful houses I see in blogland with a more neutral decor. I decided to take down the print I had on the wall in the living area at the beach house and try something new. I brought a large mirror from the living area at the farmhouse down to the beach house to try but it was a little too much the same colour as the walls. I could have painted it but deep down I really liked it at the farm house so back it went. (I seem to be forever taking things back and forward much to Mr FH disbelief!!). Mr FH had given me this pine mirror years ago for Christmas and I really didn’t have a home for it so I hung it in our city unit (much to SNo 1’s disgust as he didn’t like it!!) and decided to bring it back and try a little paint on it. Got that?? Yeah, I know a bit confusing with all this swapping and changing.
Well, it started out ok. I taped it all and started to paint it a basic off white colour. Not what I wanted. In fact I didn’t even get a photo. Next I thought I would add some stain but somehow it just looked terrible!! You will agree when you see the photo!! So I quickly jumped in my car and raced to the hardware store and picked up a tin of spray paint. I couldn’t cover it all quick enough!. I am quite happy with the new look. It certainly looks better than all the other options. I have just arrived back from the farm so I had to take a few quick snaps and it looks like I nearly jagged the ‘blue hour’.

I couldn’t get a decent photo of the whole room in the dull light so at the moment this will have to do. I really don’t know how these bloggers who paint their furniture all the time make it sound so easy!! Obviously I just don’t have that skill.

Just grab a can of paint..

For a while now I have been ohing and ahring over some of the great makeovers in the land of blog. The changes some have been making by painting old pieces of china, pottery etc has been amzing so I decided to get myself some spray cans and have a go!!!
I had this really old pottery in my cupboard so I thought I would try this first.

As you can see this is pretty daggy but I really liked the shape of the bowl and it was in very good condition so I just cleaned it over and waited for it to dry then started on my transformation.

What a difference a can of paint can make....

I am so thrilled with the result - it looks so smooth and fresh.

The little salt and pepper shakers look great - I've been trying to think of something else to put in the top instead of corks - any ideas???
The sugar bowl looks ok here but I think I was a bit enthusiastic and sprayed that a bit too much so the paint has run a little on the back but it does have one 'good side' for display. LOL

The little heart shaped candle was pinched from another display and the jug of roses are from my bathroom table - I love the contrast with the woven mat underneath.

The green apples just seem to show the simplicity of the shapes. Isn't it funny - straight away I thought they would look good in there. I did try a few other bits and pieces from around the house but I liked this contrast best.
