Quiz Overload

Took a bunch of quizzes while watching Celebrity Duets. Here's some of the answers.

I thought my element was always water...

Your Element Is Earth

You excel at planning and strategizing.
You could be a champ at chess or Survivor.

Well grounded, you are able to be realistic and rationalize.
On the inside, you have a hard core. It's tough to phase you.

You are super productive, and you are able to think anything through.
Focused and super charged, your instincts are a good guide for your next step.

How is this the DARK color purple I said I liked?

You Are Lilac

You are a very innocent and pure person. Ethics matter to you.
Your friends consider you a great listener, and you often play therapist to your friends.
You are good at drawing out truths in conversation, however painful they may be.
Non judgmental and patient - people feel like they can tell you anything!

I don't think this one is that accurate either:

Your Learning Style: Unconventional and Insightful

You are very intuitive and ingenious. You're attracted to any field of study that lets you break the rules.

You Should Study:

Art
Art history
Architecture
Comparative religions
Eastern religion
Education
Music
Philosophy

And apparently my color of passion is pink. Sounds like Victoria's Secret to me when I hear pink.

Couscous

Dinner today was teriyaki salmon and wild mushroom & herb couscous. Yum. I like cooking, but after work, there's usually never enough time!

It's definitely getting into autumn. Starbucks dropped the pomegranate juice blend tazo drink from their menu and added pumpkin lattes. I miss the pomegranate drink. Summer's really over.

Travel and Costco

A year or so ago, I started a list of the dates and destinations to which I had traveled, recording airline flights and hotel lodging and the like. I can't find the file (it's probably on my old computer), so today I have been putting together a new list. I like lists. This is fun.

Today I also went to Costco, mostly for an eye and contact lens check-up. I miss having lunch at Costco. I don't mean the pizza or chicken bake stuff; I mean the samples. Back in high school, I used to head over to Costco with my mom after school whenever I didn't have afterschool extracurriculars, and would eat sample snacks. I never really ate lunch in high school (I don't know how I did this - I rarely ate lunch, I didn't go to the bathroom the entire school day - how is this possible?), but would eat after school or when I got home. So Costco was perfect! Lots of fun picking up all different samples, and inevitably, buying something sampled. Yum.

I had lunch today, but also went to Costco for samples. They had turkey breast, chicken andouille sausage, breaded chicken tenderloins (these weren't ready when I was there), potato chips (reminding me that I don't really like potato chips), chocolate chip cookies and these multigrain crackers topped with crab salad. Bought the multigrain crackers. Can bring them to work and eat them with the cheese wedges that I got from Costco. A good snack.

I can't find some of the itineraries I am looking for, such as one of my interviewing trips to San Francisco. (You can see I am back to the travel topic). I think it is because some of the itineraries were sent via link to those travel reservation sites and not directly in email. Bah. I don't know if I saved printouts of them. Will need to check at home.

I never felt like I traveled much over the past few years. But looking at my list right now, there are tons of entries for law school. Then I realized it is just all the flying back and forth from Chicago to NYC. That counts, but it doesn't count. Oh well. Will go to try to discover more pieces of the past. Celebrity Duets is on tonight!

Kyle XY

Tonight was the Kyle XY finale. I haven't seen it yet (it's recorded on my DVR at home, but I'm at my parents' house and we're still only in the first half of the show's marathon from today), but I am proud to say that I got my mom's entire side of the family hooked on the show.

I told my mom, who really liked it on the ABC encores. My mom told her sister. While at my grandmother's apartment, I flipped it on and everyone got sucked in. And then, of course, I told everyone about the scheduling of the marathon.

I feel so proud. :) I'm trying to get people hooked on Psych as well, but that hasn't had the same type of results yet and now the summer season is over. Let's see what fall shows I get to advocate for!

I can't stop watching this panda video. It's adorable. It makes me smile.

Peninsula

My random photo selector (currently, a couple of clicks on the screensaver) chose this photo for me to share with you today.

This is the Peninsula Hotel in Hong Kong. We went on a tour on our first full day in HK, and this is where the tour met. It's a really nice hotel and was directly across the street from our hotel (the Sheraton). Our hotel room windows looked out at the Peninsula and out toward the harbor, so we saw it every single day. I don't have that much to say about it since it's not where we stayed, but it's still a great looking hotel and my random photo of the day! (Adding some color to the blog...)

Some recent searches:
  • Kyle XY (still haven't seen this past Monday's episode, but yay! If you're trying to catch up, there's a marathon on ABC Family on Monday)
  • Avram Freedberg (or however you spell it, the 9/11 coins guy)
  • Images of Paldo Aloe Vera (I love this stuff... I like it much better than the other aloe drink brands)
  • "I cut up my department store card" (I guess this must be done sometimes...?)
  • McDonalds new hire quiz (I know nothing about this)
I love the new Statcounter Google map which shows me where the readers are in Sweden and Russia and the like. It's sooooooooooooooooo much fun.

Tech Support

I saw the funniest thing on QVC tonight.

I came home to do work from home and put on QVC. I went through a phase when I watched QVC a lot during law school, mainly because it was good background noise and also because it was so amusing sometimes! Anyway, today they were showing the Dell Computer Workshop for an hour. I had been thinking of how awesome it would be if someone called in to ask about the exploding batteries, but figured they would never let someone on the air who said that.

Then this woman named Fran from Georgia calls in, and it was really awesome and I could not stop laughing. Here's the general gist of what happened on the call.

They exchange greetings and Fran mentions that she has had a Dell computer for a couple of years and it's been great. Throughout the entire next section of the call, the host is doing that "uh-huh" thing, except it noticeably changes in tone. I'm sure you can guess where.

"I just wanted to make a comment about the technical support, which is pretty much nonexistent, so I'm in the middle of a real problem with them right now, so I recommend that no one buy a Dell."

It's at this point that I pause the TV because I have to stop doing work because I can't stop laughing. And the host's fake smile at the time is hilarious because you can tell that she really doesn't want to be smiling and just wants this woman off the air.

The host and the Dell guy then go back and forth about how shocked they are that someone could possibly have a problem with the Dell tech support. Honestly, I never did, but I also know why I never did - I ordered from small business and their tech support wasn't outsourced. Every time I called up, if I didn't call small business directly, it would take at least 20 minutes to answer a simple question. I can imagine the woman is frustrated!

The Dell guy then tells Fran that he would love to talk to her more about her problems with the tech support (they really want her off the air!) and she's like, "Oh, I'd love to talk to you about that too because I've been talking to them for days trying to get mine fixed!"

So awesome.

I never thought they would have a comment like that on the air. Fantastic.

Treasure Hunters Finale

Warning: Spoilers Inside!

I came home to find my DVR overspilling and erasing itself (if you did not catch an away message of mine earlier, it said that I was thinking about how the new fall TV season started tonight, but the season finales of 24 and Lost remain unwatched on my DVR), but I had previously marked the Treasure Hunters finale to save since I wanted to find out who won. I've seen all the episodes and generally followed the show, but I'm not obsessed with it like SYTYCD and in no way is it as good as the Amazing Race (which is coming back so soon and they are going to awesome cities!). Anyway, I sat down to watch it over dinner, after reprogramming the DVR to pick up repeats of Kyle XY and Prison Break that are broadcasting later in the week. (Vanished and Saved remain on the DVR, unwatched as of right now).

Anyway, here are my thoughts on the finale:

1. I tried to decide which one was worse: this finale or the bloated Apprentice live finales. I think this one might actually be worse than the Apprentice ones?

2. I really wanted Air Force to win. I'm disappointed.

3. I liked 2 of the 3 Genius guys. But my dislike of the 3rd made me not want them to win. Then there were the imploding boys on the other team...

4. 3 million dollars? Seriously? If Genworth has that much money to just give away, I'll gladly take some! It's not like that many people even watched the show!

5. Paraphrase: We tried to open the cryptex with every five letter word we could think of, like France...

Too many other boring/cheesy/bad moments of the finale to mention. But yeah, I suppose I did watch the whole thing. Oh well. Maybe Contender tomorrow will be as good as last week's episode (I liked both of those guys so much! Finally people who aren't fighting because of personal grudges and actually respect each other!) and I can recuperate with a good reality show. Something to tide me over until Celebrity Duets starts next week!!

And That Makes 4

Game 1 (Friday afternoon): I was at work, so I didn't watch. And I forgot to watch it online. Win.

Game 2 (Friday night): Every time I watched part of the game, things started to go downhill. I refused to watch anymore, so I watched Psych instead. Win.

Game 3 (Saturday afternoon): I thought the previous night's bad luck was carrying over, since the first glimpse of the game I saw was when Boston tied things up. It seemed luck had turned, however, since I was able to watch us go up 10-5 before heading to the park. Win.

Game 4 (Sunday night): Watched other TV instead of the game because I was worried things wouldn't go well. Realized the game was best for the Yankees when the game was on but I was in another room. Win.

I wonder what tomorrow will bring...

By the way, our cable is "ribbiting" (I don't know what else to call it, but that is the sound it is currently making). It's quite annoying, especially since it messes up randomly and you can't understand what anyone is saying. It's especially bad seeing as how we are entering summer finale-fall premiere time. Argh.

On a lighter note, I watched half of Dirty Dancing Havana Nights this afternoon and thought it was a lot of fun. I love dance movies. I already miss So You Think You Can Dance. And I don't have tickets for the tour. Oh well.
