Leaving on a Jet Plane - John Denver

I am aware that there have been many versions of this song and the latest was that version used in the movie Armageddon.  I watched that movie and I should admit, I cried at its ending.

I grew up hearing this song as sung by John Denver.  I may be younger than his generation but I love his songs.  As a kid, I couldn't see myself as "leaving on a jet plane" simply because I am afraid of heights.

I fear heights especially boarding a plane due to movies showing planes that crash and other natural calamities that strike air crafts.  I was afraid of the thought that I may not survive a plane crash or I may be a crash magnet. (Silly me!) Well, maturity brought me opposite convictions in life. In fact, I have prepared myself of death. Funny!

Hey, one can't help but repose your life to the aircraft and to the pilot who directs the plane during voyage to the skies.  It is like religion. "You commend your spirit into your God."

Those were my thoughts when I boarded the plane.  "I am prepared", I told myself.  However, seated beside me is my sister.  I know her thoughts are different from mine leaving behind her 3 kids.  As a mother, one can't help but miss your children and think of them when you're gone.  Silly me really for thinking thoughts like these when we were en route the Land of the Merlion.  However, as sister passengers in a plane, we did not talk about the worst scenario.  We enjoyed the view above the clouds. We read the magazine and see photos of tourist spots in Asia and the Philippines. We talked about the activities of our fellow passenger regardless of their sex or color or race.  We slept.  I read my law book.  As a passenger of the plane, I diverted my attention to those activities and did not bother to think of the worst scenario.

Well, to end this entry, I finally took the step to board an airplane and one thing that played on my mind was this song.  It helped me eliminate my childhood fears on flying in the plane.  Thank God!

Til next entry.

Lyrics of the song
Leaving on a Jet Plane

All my bags are packed I'm ready to go
I'm standin' here outside your door
I hate to wake you up to say goodbye
But the dawn is breakin' it's early morn
The taxi's waitin' he's blowin' his horn
Already I'm so lonesome I could die

So kiss me and smile for me
Tell me that you'll wait for me
Hold me like you'll never let me go
Cause I'm leavin' on a jet plane
Don't know when I'll be back again
Oh babe, I hate to go

There's so many times I've let you down
So many times I've played around
I tell you now, they don't mean a thing
Every place I go, I'll think of you
Every song I sing, I'll sing for you
When I come back, I'll bring your wedding ring

So kiss me and smile for me
Tell me that you'll wait for me
Hold me like you'll never let me go
Cause I'm leavin' on a jet plane
Don't know when I'll be back again
Oh babe, I hate to go

Now the time has come to leave you
One more time let me kiss you
Close your eyes I'll be on my way
Dream about the days to come
When I won't have to leave alone
About the times, I won't have to say

So kiss me and smile for me
Tell me that you'll wait for me
Hold me like you'll never let me go
Cause I'm leavin' on a jet plane
Don't know when I'll be back again
Oh babe, I hate to go

Cause I'm leavin' on a jet plane
Don't know when I'll be back again
Oh babe, I hate to go

Stop in the name of love - Diana Ross, Sister Act 2

I know this is a song about love... about serious relationships but this was the first song that came to my mind when I felt how the world would stop.

Did the world actually stop? That may be your question right now. And my answer to that is: Yes! The world will indeed stop in the name of love, or because of it.

That's what exactly how I felt when I realized that due to my negligence or perhaps over confidence, my baby fall from the stairs, as a result - a bump in his forehead. I imagined the worst! Who wouldn't? I'd rather hurt myself than hurt a little boy, much less a 15 month old toddler under my care, I consider my own!

I realized... what the world could offer me will not be enough if my baby's condition worsened. I really thought of the extremes and realized further that I will not exchange material things, including my time, for my baby. I told myself I have to be with him all the way, as much as I can.

Let me share with you the remedies I applied with that big lump on his head.

First, I immediately grabbed a frozen object from our freezer. I learned later on that it was a frozen sausage inside the plastic bag. I tried to put them on his forehead because that's what I learned since childhood. When something gets bumped, it has to be applied with ice or something cold.

My beloved sister was on the rescue as well. She told me to put that "cool fever" (I think that was a brand name of a silicon like material to be placed on a baby's forehead when they have fever) inside the ref. After 30 minutes with ice on his forehead, i placed the cool fever with the hope that the bump would swell down. To my delight, it did! (Please note that during that time, I was searching in the internet about the remedy in such cases. Likewise, it was the first time that my sister and I saw a bump as big as my baby's and our cool fever remedy was an experiment but I was glad it did help.)

The "cool fever" thing made the bump disappear, except the blood clot or i think the medical people call that hematoma. (Sounds scary to me) I still placed that cool fever on his forehead even after 2 days and his forehead seems all well to me, or at least that's what every mom would hope for. After two weeks, all I can see or feel from his forehead is a slight bump probably due to veins or tissues that were damaged during the fall.

I hope I would be able to help you with the above remedy, just in case, but I hope you can prevent your babies from any fall. They said it's a natural occurrence, especially with baby boys and I rejoice on that thought but if I can only turn back time, I would have prevented that accident.

I just want to let you know how much I love my baby boy and nothing would seem to matter to me if he, or any of my loved ones, be ever hurt again.

For the sake of this blog, I am posting here the lyrics of the song I copied from lyriczz.com.

Stop in the name of love, before you break my heart.

Verse1:
Baby baby i'm aware of where you go
each time you leave my door
i watch you walk down the street
knowing your other love you'll meet
but this time before you run to her leaving me all alone and hurt

think it over( haven't i been good to you?)
think it over( haven't i been sweet to you?)

chorus:
stop in the name of love before you break my heart
stop in the name of love before you break my heart
think it over
think it over

verse2:
i known of your, your secluded nights
i've even seen her maybee once or twice
but is her sweet expression
worth more then my love and affection?
but this time before you leave my arms
and rush off to her charm

think it over(haven't i been good to you?)
think it over(haven't i been sweet to you?)

Chorus:
stop in the name of love before you break my heart
stop in the name of love before you break my heart
think it over
think it over

verse3:
i've tried so hard, hard to be patient
hoping you would stop this infatuation
but each time you are together
i'm so afraid of losing you for ever

chorus:
stop in the name of love before you break my heart(baby think it over)
stop in the name of love (think it over baby)before you break my heart(oooh think it over baby)

Mga Kababayan Ko - Francis Magalona

"Three stars and the sun" that was the kind of t-shirt design my friend from the USA was looking for. I was asked to search or look for a shirt like that. It should be easy, I thought, because eversince this famous Pinoy rapper passed away, T-shirts printed with his face or some ornaments that would compliment his songs were largely circulated among the local artists and of course to the can-afford public. I was shocked to learn that such a shirt costs as much as 3 or 4 times the amount you could get from a simple shirt in the malls.

I am not yet that well-to-do you know. Buying such an expensive shirt for my friend who is from US was not practical. I have always been an economical or practical person. I am just trying to make ends meet according to my ability to earn. Hay... Economics! Anyway, I have nothing against the T-shirt being sold for a cause. It was for a good cause after all. In fact, I admire the shirt and I love to have one but I can't afford this one. Anyway, Christmas came with just a little penny on my pocket. I chanced upon a local dry goods store. I saw this yellow shirt (my favorite color, have I said that?) with a map of my country embroidered on its left chest. My eyes were fixed on it so I closed my eyes... and imagined I could own that shirt... then I opened my eyes... and presto! The saleslady handed the shirt to me. I will consider that as the most wonderful gift I have received this Holiday Season. With so much rejoicing over having a shirt most pleasing to my eyes, I bought another color, for my sister. Once again, I closed my eyes, so the reality that I am letting go of my penny will escape me a bit. LOL! It was a gift for my sister, I said. So it is worth it. My consolation came when I gave my gift to my sister, she liked it! So there... I got my shirt and somehow, it would help me show the world (or just my neighbors and friends) that my love for this country is lit albeit flickering because of the ongoing chaos and tumult (the floods, the economic downfall, the massacre, dirty politics, volcanic eruption, etc). This is the reason why I came back, and I wanna stay, so in my own little way, I could help my country. Staying and facing the troubles, the gargantuan problems of this country, is my means of helping this nation. If Francis M. helped or promoted the Philippine culture and aspiration through his music, I think I could help simply by not adding insult to injury, do something good to others, show some love primarily to your family and friends then perhaps love to your enemies will also find its way through our hearts. I used to be an idealistic person, a normal feeling for youngsters, and I think with the words I just shared with you, I am re-living my idealism, only with a tinge of realism and "practicalism" (or the right term "practicality").

And again, my little contribution to our music industry... my own translation of the song Mga kababayan ko by Francis M.

Sa inyo at sa buong mundo (To you and to the whole world)

Repeat chorus

Maging Sino Ka Man - Rey Valera - Sharon Cuneta

There was a movie about this song. It was a local film starred by Robin Padilla. Blogging about a Rey Valera song is quite overdue and incidentally, this song came to mind when I just want to blog about my sister.

My sister is or was an avid fan of Robin Padilla. He is a local actor who had the "bad boy" image in the Philippine cinema. Her fondness of this actor died down when the latter got involved in a criminal case from which he was committed to prison.

The other night I attended a prayer meeting, my sister went out with her friends. Before we were to go home, I stayed with them for a few minutes and they had a chat from which I think I overheard her saying "that's why I love my sister", in our dialect and she was referring to me. It caused me to smile although I was unsure of her exact words and whether she really meant it or not. I go for the positive side.

We've been through a lot together and she's been through a lot family-related problems. One would go really crazy if they are in her situation. I couldn't handle it myself if I was in her shoes that is why I admire her a lot. She manages to go through everything, add to that having a sister like me. I am the most uncontrolled sister in the universe but she accepts me, loves me even. And I love her back.

She is the kind of person you will love to love because as I have always told you, she can cope with different types of people. She can sustain relationships throughout the years and have loyal friends behind her. For me, she is simply the most amazing person I have ever seen and I believe she has been blessed fully for all that she has done to our family and to her friends. She is the kind of person one will surely love, whoever they are.

Lyrics Translation of the song
MAGING SINO KA MAN (Whoever You are)

Ang pag-ibig ay sadyang ganyan (Love is like that)
Tiwala sa isa't isa'y kailangan (Trust in one another is needed)
Dati mong pag-ibig wala akong pakialam (Your previous love, I don't care)
Basta't mahal kita kailan pa man (I just love you forevermore)
'Wag kang mag-isip ng ano pa man (Don't think of anything else)
Mga paliwanag mo'y di na kailangan (I don't need your explanation)
At kahit ano pa ang iyong nakaraan (And whatever your past is)
Mamahalin kita maging sino ka man (I will love you forvermore)

Mahal kita pagka't mahal kita (I love you because I love you)
Iniisip nila ay hindi mahalaga (What they think is not important)
Mahal kita maging sino ka man (I love you whoever you are)

Mali man ang ikaw ay ibigin ko (It may be wrong to love you)
Ako'y isang bulag na umiibig sa 'yo (I may be loving you blindly)
At kahit ano pa ang iyong nakaraan (And whatever your past is)
Mamahalin kita maging sino ka man (I will love you forvermore)

Mahal kita pagka't mahal kita (I love you because I love you)
Iniisip nila ay hindi mahalaga (What they think is not important)
Mahal kita maging sino ka man (I love you whoever you are)

Super Sonic - JJ Fad

SUPER SONIC - JJ Fad

I used to know the lyrics of this song. I still can recall a few of them:
S is for Super and the U is for Unique
The P is for perfection and you know that we are freaks
The E is for exotic and the R is for Raps...

Me and my sister, we like its beat and the rap. We used to sing this together, it's like we are competing with each other
who is better at rap. She just easily gives up on me thinking I'd win. She is always like that. In order to avoid argument or
confrontation, she would just easily give in. I am not against such attitude. In fact, I want to emulate her "submissiveness"
at a right time. I also don;t want long, nonsense, crying-over-spilled-milk kinda argument because what has been done is done.

No use arguing about it. The right course of action is to find a solution and when we know the solution, work on it. I still want to imitate my sister's outlok at things and one thing I admire in her is she has patience towards other people.
I don't think I am as patient as she is. I mean, she could wait like forever and not say a word. She just keeps things to herself first then
produce her wit at a later time. Another thing I find nice about her is her dealings with people. She can find her way in gaining the trust or confidence of other people
which I personally deem impossible. And I tell her this all the time and I brag about her ability to deal with people and still remain as she is, her natural self.

Oh, so much has been said about her. I still have so much praises for my sister, It'll just come out later on as I go along with this journey here in the web.

Till next entry. Below is the lyrics and the music.

One Little Candle - Chicago

It was my 5th night of darkness. We still didn't have electricity after the big flood we experienced last Thursday evening (October 8).

Everynight, I light a candle in my room and need not worry about burning the house down because I stay awake most of the time. I cannot sleep well thinking of my friends, thinking about the people around me or baby-sitting the kid beside me.

That small little candle reminded me of simplicity. A single light in a dark room makes a big difference. My head went back to the year 1987, when my sister, me beloved sister, graduated from gradeschool. (Here in the Philippines, we spend six years in grade school, then we move forward to 4 years in high school).

This song was their graduation song and I practiced with them. By the way, my sister graduated at the top of her class in grade school. It was one of my proudest moments. I saw them on stage, they were singing this song as they, one-by-one lit each of their candles. Of course, the stage was dark and the light was all we could see. It was part of the drama on stage that I still couldn't understand nor appreciate back then. I do now that's why I am blogging about it. It was my sister's graduation night and whatever is special for my special for my sister, I instill it in my head. I love her so much.

This is the lyrics of One Little Candle and the music below. By the way, we also sing this in church but searching the net, i discovered it was also sung by Chicago so I have cited them here.

=====================================
It is better to light just one little candle,
Than to stumble in the dark!
Better far that you light just one little candle,
All you needs a tiny spark!

If wed all say a prayer that the world would be free,
The wonderful dawn of a new day well see!
And, if everyone lit just one little candle,
What a bright world this would be!

Lets all light one little candle,
Why stumble on in the dark?
When the day is dark an' dreary,
And your way is hard to find,
Dont let your heart be weary,
Just keep this thought in mind!

What a bright world
this would be!

One Little Candle (LP Version) - Chicago

Promise Me - Beverly Craven

This is my sister's favorite. This song means something to her, I know that for a fact but not for the reason. I also like this song but I really cannot relate to the lyrics.

It was like a love story for her and I always tend to picture her actually "lighting a cigarette" when the first line of this song is sung. There will always be a picture of her. Perhaps, this reminds me of her image when she lights up a cigarette. She reminds me of my mom who has been smoking probably even before we were born.

There was always a plea from us to make her quit the vice but she wouldn't. She quit for a short time. That was just a New Year's resolution. Typical resolutions, it didn't last long. She just couldn't resist it! When I grew a lot older, I let her be. Besides, I really cannot give her the things she enjoys the most and it appears that smoking has become her nature -as natural as breathing. But there you are... this is my smokey story about this song.

=====================================
Lyrics of the song Promise Me
You light up another cigarette and I pour the wine
It's four o'clock in the morning and it's starting to get light
Now I'm right where I want to be losing track of time
But I wish that it was still last night

You look like you're in another world but I can read your mind
how can you be so far away lying by my side
when I go away I'll miss you
and I will be thinking of you
every night and day just ...

Promise me you'll wait for me
'cos I'll be saving all my love for you
and I will be home soon
Promise me you'll wait for me
I need to know you feel the same way too
and I'll be home, I'll be home soon

When I go away I'll miss you and I will be thinking of you
every night and day just ...

Promise me you'll wait for me
'cos I'll be saving all my love for you
and I will be home soon
Promise me you'll wait for me
I need to know you feel the same way too
and I'll be home, I'll be home

Beer - Itchy Worms

I'd say this is a very long and lonely song. I thought I couldn't translate this but I did my best shot. I am blogging about this because this is one of my sister's favorites (according to her). This song was pre-installed on her PC when she first bought it. I bet it was a give away.

In all honesty, I haven't heard or known about this song if not because of my sister because I seldom listen to FM or AM stations, not to mention TVs, except TV series or news if I got time. (What a boring life I am living, really?) Other than the song, of course, my sister is my drinking buddy however she is a beer person, while I am a hard-person, i.e. hard drinks. I just thought I gain more calories with beer, that's all.

Still, I love beer because, it is more handy and you can buy it anywhere here (try the sari-sari store).

In MP3 format, this song takes about 6 minutes or over of play time. I hope I was able to capture and translate the lyrics below. So why am I talking about this song right now? It is a good match to a recipe I cooked this afternoon: tokwa't baboy... I am speaking for myself and I'd say it is a match, not necessarily for a beer but anything that has alcohol in it. This is the song that I can currently refer to a drinking session so I am blogging about it now. Huh, do I really need to explain that? I just did. ;-)

Anyway, it is beer and tokwa't baboy so they go together. (If you wanna know the ingredients for that food, let me know. You know where to email me.)

Here is the lyrics and my translation:
Nais kong magpakalasing dahil wala ka na (I wanna get drunk because you're gone)
Nakatingin sa salamin at nag-iisa (looking at the mirror, and alone)

Nakatanim pa rin ang gumamelang binalik mo sa`kin nang tayo`y maghiwalay (the flower you gave back to me is still planted)
Ito`y katulad Ng damdamin ko kahit buhusan mo ng beer ayaw pang mamatay (it's like my feelings for you, it won't die even if I pour beer into it)

[pre-chorus]
Giliw, wag mo sanang limutin (my dear, don't ever forget)
Ang mga araw na hindi sana naglaho (the days that should have not disappeared)
Mga anak at bahay nating pinaplano (the kids and house we were planning)
Lahat ng ito`y nawala Nung iniwan mo ‘ko (all these vanished when you left me)
kaya ngayon (that's why, now...)

Nais kong magpakasabog (I wanna explode)
Dahil olats ako (because I'm a loser)
Kahit ano hihithitin (I wanna puff anything)
Kahit tambutso (including the muffler)
Kukuha ako ng Beer at ipapakulo (I will get a beer and boil it)
Sa kaldero’t lalanghapin Ang usok nito (in a kettle and inhale its smoke)
Lahat ay aking gagawin (I will do everything)
Upang hindi ko na isiping nag-iisa na ako (so I won't remember that I am alone)

Beer - Itchy Worms

Point of View - Joey Albert

This is another song by Joey Albert. This is the song for the very best sister in the world... I couldn't have made some good breaks in my life without her.

Lyrics | Point Of View lyrics

Back in our younger years, we have loved Joey Albert and her songs. By "we", I mean my sister and me. There are times we just hum the song or actually sing them. We shared a lot of things: we washed clothes, take a bath together (we fill up the pale with water, use the dipper then just shower ourselves with it), we press our uniforms, we tickle each other before we go to sleep amd I don't recall any event where we hurt each other (I mean physically, even emotionally). I don't think I was ever envious about my big sister. We are completely different: she's tall, my mom call me plump; she's skinny, I'm chubby; she's friendly, I'm not - but we're both inteligent and wise (self-professed again!).

We were together most of our lives and we tell each other our problems. There are a lot of things I can tell her but not to anyone else. Now that we're older, before we both make decisions, we always ask for each others' point of view on things. That's the common thing between us. She tells me her problems, her opinion about things, our family problems, work relations and others. In return, I tell her what I think, what should have been and be done. She also knows my frustrations and gives me comforting words.

I'm glad I have the most wonderful sister of all. I love her so -so much that I love her kids as my own. (Well, I love all of my nephews and my nieces.) She has done a lot of things for me and for our family. Oh, and did I mention she's my best drinkin' buddy? Drinking is not the same when we don't do it together. We drink, we sing, we laugh, we tell stories and we have so much fun together... and that's until now... and I hope forever!

The song says: "We may have gone our diff'rent ways, But since we are the kind of friends who'll always stay no matter what the pain..."

That's my big sis! Isn't the world a wonderful place if you have someone you can talk to anything under the sun?

I Will Survive - Gloria Gaynor

Song Lyrics

I have mentioned about this song in my previous blogs. This is my favorite videoke song, and my sister too. I love to sing this song because of it's very lively tone plus the chance to dance on its interlude or instrumental part. I'd rather sing it than dance to it. My sister is good in both dancing and singing so I grab the mic from her when we reach the instrumental part of this song. (That's her with our new baby in the family, Chezka.)

I remembered to write about this song because I was thinking of the previous post from raimster16. I asked myself "what if the boyfriend came back, not to love her back, but just to give her hope". It is not far from possible because sometimes we tend to love a person (or so we thought) because we feel sorry about them. We don't want to see them crying. It's like there is something we could do but that is a quicksand, if you know what I mean.

We feel so sorry about them to the extent that we neglect our own happiness just to see such people to be happy. I do that, so don't wonder why I had this thought coming around. So I said, go ahead raimster, you can do it! You will survive this by yourself. You wouldn't need him again if he will just give you false hopes. That's when I remembered to write about this song.

I also would like to talk about my sister whom I'm reminded when I hear this song. I love her and I would never trade anybody else for her. She is the best for me! So to my best friend, my drinking buddy, my favorite sister, my "ATE"... We will survive as we always do!

I love you siz!
