It has been several months since we redesigned my teenaged daughter's bedroom for her birthday, but I wanted to share how lovely it turned out. It's difficult to get into her room and photograph these days, as she is now homeschooled and spends an enormous amount of time in her room, and more specifically on her bed! If you've been following me for any time now, you may remember that we re-did her bedroom a few years ago! She is now a full fledge teenager and has very specific design ideas and so for her 14th birthday, I told her we could redecorate her room. It has been FIVE years and she's a lot different at 14 then she was at 9 years old! Here is what her room looked like before:

Family Room Update: Fireplace Makeover
Recently, I was looking at my family room and ready to do a few updates in there. We moved into our house over 11 years ago and it was one of the first rooms that I painted. So, I felt like it was time to do something our hideous fireplace. We fixed the fireplace about 6 or 7 years ago so that it could function. This room was turned into a Rumpus Room back in the 1960s, and later enclosed. So, the fireplace had a rotisserie in it - that I've since taken out, of course!

The Destruction of Our Kitchen and More
The excitement of having a new kitchen is getting me through the time of having NO kitchen right now! If you have been following me for anytime, you may know I've been dreaming, planning, designing, and budgeting my way through this kitchen renovation. Now, we're in the destruction phase! It's not pretty, but necessary!

Fresh New Look
Ask my mom, she's seen me do it for years - my husband too! I decorate a room, then a few years later I'm ready to do it all over again or give a big fresh new look every few years! It's just what I do - I tend to be that ADD/distracted girl, so maybe that why, I don't know! When we first moved into our house, almost ten years ago, the first room I painted was our living room. We bought this big, red couch so we could have tons of people in there for Bible Studies or hanging out and what not. I loved it, it was beautiful! But, I realized lately that the red couch was no longer really needed as we have most of the people over and spend all our time outside on our beautiful patio...so, I wanted to make this room feel a little more intimate.

Organized Creative Corner for Just $15!!
This post is by my assistant, Tiffany. Enjoy!
When I want something beautiful to hang on my walls, need someone to take family photos or want help organizing a lovely party I am so thankful to live in a house full of "creatives." Often times, however, this creativity comes with a bit of a mess. The random art supplies that my family collects and uses on a regular basis can quickly take over the house if I am not diligent to corral all of it. In this post I will show you how I was recently able to make a tiny artist studio space in our home.

Am I vain? A re-do of my new vanity!
My home was built in the 1940s, and because of this, I believe I have a soft spot for all things vintage! I also love having a vanity. My former vanity has done well for years. But, it's small and I wanted something more, after seeing one in an antique shop a couple of months ago. But, I just wasn't willing to pay the price that they wanted for theirs.

OMF Headquarters: the organizing
I can't reveal my fabulous office and leave you hanging, can I? There is so much in the office to show you that I purposely had to have a separate post on JUST the organizing!
So, last week I revealed the whole office in all its glory! Now, up close, I'll show you how I keep my desk and everything else organized in there. My desk is very important and must do a lot. When I got ready to paint it - the beast - I decided I was getting rid of anything that wasn't necessary. That meant that my hubby's stuff in the desk was going to need a new home, too!
I'm going to start with the middle drawer. I've used small ramekins to hold my pretty paper clips and small binder clips and other small but important things.
I have my pocket digital camera and it's components in a box lid and then my other baskets holding necessary cards in one and my picture hanging strips in the other - which, by the way are AMAZING and I used them exclusively for hanging everything in this new office.
The drawers on the top left are organized simply - the top, with basic office needs {stapler, scissors, hole punch, tape, etc.} simply lay in there neatly. The drawer under, I have a drawer divider that I used to divide up my "bill paying" drawer, which holds my checkbooks and deposit envelopes {and a cute owl wallet for use here and there}.
My file drawers are the two least exciting drawers. But, I fit a small filing cabinet FULL of files into my two bottom drawers. I got rid of all kinds of stuff so that I could get rid of the cabinet and keep it all in the desk. The best part: I now file much better because it's right next to me. I hate filing, so I need as few excuses as I can get!
My right drawers hold my label holder and some more binder clips - the other one holds all my stationary for writing cards and such, using an acrylic hair accessories organizer.
On the top of the desk is the large hutch. I use the back of the door {of course} by putting cup hooks on them and using a binder clip to clip things. I have one door that holds invitations to things I don't want to forget and the other door holds my daughter's "art of the day" {yes, she LOVES to draw constantly and give to Mom}. By the way, she knows that she has to take down the old stuff and get rid of it so we don't get overloaded with too much.
So, next we move on to the middle of the hutch. I got these beautiful office storage boxes in turquoise to add a pop of color while organizing all my camera equipment discreetly. I need to get at this stuff frequently and hide it in here, or I can throw it into my camera bag easily.
On top of my hutch, I have cardboard magazine files that I've covered with the same fabric I used on the magnetic bulletin board. Then, I asked seejanework.com to send me some of their pretty organizing goodies for my office and they sent me these fantastic clip-on label holders - which you can use for these magazine holders and for binders, too.
Other areas around my desk that I organize are some magnetic clips from See Jane Work, a pretty "ocean" basic binder also from SJW that I'm using for a family binder, vintage wire wall pockets from SJW filled with garden delight file folders they sent, also. I finally got this cord wrap to keep my cords neat, too.
The last area I have organized is the printer stand. You may remember that I mentioned that we had to make this from two pre-fab bookshelves screwed together. My list of needs for this room, was to have a place to fit my printer, shredder, receipt scanner AND my laptop and camera bags. Well, I did it with this printer stand! The handbag storage bin I got is large enough to fit these two bags. Whew! That's pretty much IT for all the organization! I hope you enjoyed it and got some great tips or ideas for organizing your office or drawers!

OMF Headquarters: The BIG reveal of my office
It's done! My office is done....not only done, but it is fabulous! I LOVE to work in there!

So, here begins the pictures...the tour of my tiny office! This is where it all happens, where I blog and work and work and blog! I spent 3 days painting this office desk. It's absolutely worth all the time and effort that I had to put into it. I called it "the beast" whenever I had to go and paint another coat! It took two coats of primer {with a wipe down of liquid sandpaper first} and two coats of semi-gloss.
Here is the before and after of the desk. It's amazing what paint will do! I added a "backsplash" by making a magnetic bulletin board - I've made them twice before and this was the perfect way to have something functional and pretty all at the same time. I also ordered a piece of glass to have on the top so it makes for a much nicer work surface. It is easier to clean and virtually impossible to mess up the painted surface.
On the other side of my office is the library area. If you get confused, remember that I mentioned in my other posts that I was switching the room around. So, where the desk WAS is where the Library area is now. Where the bookshelves are NOW is next to the wall where the desk WAS. I hope you're not too confused - I basically switched them opposite of where they were!
Here is the dramatic before and after of the bookshelves. I must warn you that I'm no stylist so my bookshelves are simply filled with books - organized by category and shortest to tallest. I also don't have the room to turn them different directions and add vases and fancy stuff to them. They are functional because they are full of the books that need to be in there. Just having them painted the creamy white, alone, makes a dramatic difference.
In front of my computer stand there is a new chevron poof for my kiddos. They love to come in here and sit in my office while I'm working. They have done all kinds of things - read, play on Ipad, put puzzles together, and so forth. I found the mirror in another room in the house. It was perfect for this spot so I painted it a cheery yellow. I needed a place for my {turquoise} camera bag and my {purple} laptop bag and have the best hiding spot for it in the printer stand.
The poof can be moved around or used as an ottoman with the chair. The kids sometimes like to come up to the desk and work on small projects with me and so they can do that with it, too.
It's such a tiny room {at 8 x 12} but well used. Personally I prefer having a tiny room for an office. I just needed it to be cheerful and bright. Now, I have all that and more. It's so cozy and fun. Next week I'm going to share all the organizing details with you - inside and out! Don't worry, I'll also soon be sharing all the costs and how-to's and colors of the room, as well! You just have to wait and see!!

Progress on the office {aka, OMF headquarters}
I've been busy trying to get my office ready to work in. I'm the kind of gal that, once I get started on a project, I have to get it finished as fast as I can! That's good, and that's bad! Mostly good, though!
So, my office was arranged in this order where I had the bookshelves on the wall near the window and my desk across from there. We had it that way because the neighbor up from us could see directly into my office when I was working and it felt weird...but, since then they put some nice tropical trees right in front of there, and having my back to the window made me feel so sad!
The first thing my hubby and I did was rearrange the room. Hubby came up with the clever idea of putting the bookshelves along the wall across from the closet, instead of where the desk was. This saved us lots of room. The small 8 x 12 foot room needs as much space as it can get!
Once we rearranged the room, I could really see what I wanted out of it. And, since we had to pull ALL the books off the bookshelf to move the furniture around, I figured it would be best to go ahead and paint the first piece - the bookshelf - since I'd have to put all the books back eventually anyway.
You'll notice that there is blue painter's tape on the floor. That was because I was ordering a rug online. I wanted to be sure that it was going to be the right size - not too big, not too small!
Painting furniture is no small task. This, being oak colored pine wood, was no exception. So, I'll up date you soon with more painting...seriously, I painted for three days straight!
Here is your sneak peak at the first piece I painted...which isn't included in the three days straight of painting - as life interrupted me in the middle of painting this one before I could finish it. What do you think? More soon!

We also decided that it was time to get rid of the big PC {send it back to Hubby's work}, since I no longer use it and that freed up a chunk of floor space. I also wanted to move the paper shredder out from under my desk as it was constantly in my way.

Lamp re-do
I am back at you, bringing you some projects from around our house {since we've been gone so long for the 31 day series}! Back in September, I shared with you a delightful project that I did for my daughter's room which was her pretty nightstands that I re-painted a cheerful yellow and I put butterfly decals on it!

Well, the make-over didn't really end there! She has these lamps in her room, which we originally used in our old house family room. They have been through a lot and were showing their age. I tried sprucing them up a few years ago with some cute ball-rick-rack around the edges. But, it just wasn't holding up!

As you can see, the shades were plastic on the insides and it were cracking and starting to look pretty awful. It was like this throughout the shade. So, I bought new lamp shades and decided to change up the rest of it.

So...spray paint to the rescue! I used this very berry pink spray paint {same one as on the nightstand knobs}!
It's just so fun! Spray paint is coming in some fun colors now, too. Have you noticed?
Well, this is how it turned out! I also added some fun pink zebra ribbon - which matches her pink zebra bed-skirt - around the top of the new shades. I picked up the shades at Target!
I added them to the already super-cute nightstands to just make everything THAT much cuter!
So girlie, aren't they? We're sort of in the transition stage of her not wanting the soft pink colors, but Mom won't re-do the entire room since we just did it a few years ago!
I got her this bedspread and hot pink stuff to sort of pacify her until she gets to her pre-teen stage, which will undoubtedly cause her to change her style again - sounds like me! I kept the paint, curtains, and everything else! I love re-doing her room, a little bit, so this is why I won't pay very much for doing her room, either.
Yes, she's got some cute stuff going on in there now! What do you do about kids growing from stage to stage and decorating their rooms? Any good ideas?
