Christmas Remix - New Digi: Glitter House Christmas

We’ve got some cute stuff to share, but first...

Happy Thanksgiving, wonderful friends!

I am so very thankful for YOU. What uplifting, kind-hearted folks. You take the time to share your words of encouragement, appreciation, and wonder in your comments here, on Facebook and Instagram, on our designers’ blogs. I thank you for bringing my Power Poppy images into your crafting space, and sharing your creativity and handmade treasures with others. Ours is a relationship that’s rare — being able to connect through art from our hearts. Now more than ever, this kind of connection is needed in the world. I’ve gotten to know so many of you over the years, and consider this community such a gift in my life. So again, thank you. Wishing you and your friends and family a Thanksgiving filled with love and gratitude.

Now... let’s look at cards that are totally darling, featuring a nostalgic image that’s a lot of fun to color... it’s a favorite around here: Glitter House Village.

The design of this scene is based on 1940s cardboard houses, covered in paint and glitter, sold in dimestores so folks could create little holiday villages. There were tiny bottlebrush trees, and cottony snow. You know those little houses, right? Here’s the original inspiration for my artwork...

And get this, AS OF TODAY, you can get Glitter House Village in both clear polymer AND as a digital download, called Glittery Village. Yippee!

Did I mention that these two sets are on sale today? Though you MIGHT want to wait until tomorrow... we have Black Friday sale stuff happening where you can save BIG.

Here’s a special sneak peek at a card from our Christmas Remix hop that is blowing my mind. Leave it to Instant Gardener Catherine Anderson to combine the Glittery Village digital stamp with our Christmas Corgi download. Plus a sentiment and accents from Grandma’s Snowflakes. She set up such a sweet vintage scene to accompany her preciously detailed card.

Be sure to stop by all of the designers’ blogs when you have time this weekend — there is so much inspiration here — and we are SO THANKFUL for all of these women sharing their creative talents.

Be sure to stop by our designers’ blogs — many of them are offering a $20 Power Poppy gift code giveaway!

Day 11: Festive Beverage Gift Tags

Howdy all!  Welcome the ELEVENTH day of our 12 Days of Christmas here at Power Poppy! I'm your hostess Allison Cope. We only have one more day to share some fun and festive gift ideas for this holiday season.

We should also point out this is a part of our Power & Spark Challenge. Instead of just one theme, create something inspired by one of our 12 days of tutorials, link up your creation HERE and you'll be in the running for this month's challenge. Just think you are creating something fun --creating a gift for someone -- AND you have a chance at winning $50 in Power Poppy Bucks at the Power Poppy Shop!

Today I'm sharing a variety of festive beverage tags featuring all kinds of amazing stamp collections.

The beauty of wine tags is that they can be almost any size!!  Yup... you can make them wide or thin, tall or short, multi-layered or just one simple layer.  So each one of my tags today is not like the other.

If you know me, I'm a super-duper purple fan so I always find a way to incorporate it into my creations... event Christmas ones!  So my first tag is all about purple.  It features the large "Winter Wonderland" stamp set, colored in using Copic Markers.

To create the snowflake background, I used the snowflake cluster from the "Glitter House Village" and I used the simple sentiment from the "Berry Sweet Holiday" to finish off the tag.

My second beverage tag features one of my favorite new stamp sets.  It's called "Tweet Tidings".  This cheery tag has a few touches of silver to add some sparkle.

I colored my images using Prismacolor Pencils.

Not all of our hostesses are female!  So I tried to create a little more masculine feel to it.  So I grabbed my "Action Santa" and "Holly Golightly" stamp sets and created this more manly tag.

I chose to die cut the end of my tags in a little bit of a different angle.  I even matched it to my mini hanging tag.

My final beverage tag features the "Dream Wedding" stamp set.  I thought it would be completely fitting to give to your New Year's Eve party hostess.

I even made it to be a fun shaker element with some sparkly confetti inside.  Instead of die cutting a hole I chose to use a length of wide ribbon to hang my tag around the neck of my beverage.

For variations on these tags try:
  • Adding a card to the tag so it opens up with a message for your recipient
  • Add a pocket to drop in a gift card (coffee shop, liquor store, etc.)
  • Add a detachable homemade ornament for the receipient's Christmas tree
  • Attach a gift certificate for the local taxi service or a mode of local public transportation

Thanks so much for stopping by today. Remember, if you try any one of the 12 projects featured during our 12 Days of Christmas -- be sure to link up your creation HERE so that you are in the running for the $50 shopping spree to the Power Poppy Shop! Be sure you pop back tomorrow for our final day of our Twelve Days of Christmas extravaganza as the lovely Kathy Racoosin dazzles us with her challenge inspiration! Until then... cheers!

Day 4: Christmas Organizer

Hello everyone!
It's Mindy here and today I'm sharing a fun little Christmas Organizer with you all. This is so easy and fun to make and oh so useful! I'm using this super cute Stamp Set, Glitter House Village Stamp Set on the front of the organizer. (Note: This stamp will be back in stock and shipping out December 11 — available for purchase now!) Feel free to decorate with any stamps you desire.

Christmas Organizer / Receipt Holder Tutorial
Instructions
  • Take a 12x12-inch sheet of cardstock and score it at 4 inches and 12 inches.
  • Then, turn the paper and score at 4 inches on the opposite side of the previous score lines like in the following photo.

  • Cut on the 4 and 8 inch scored lines going up to the score going across. Then you're going to want to make a thicker gap between the middle flap. Trim about 1/8 inch off at a slight angle.
  • Add a strip of glue to the sides of the flaps. You don't want to put any on the edge of the flaps because you want these to be pockets for notes, receipts, shopping lists, menus etc.
  • Fold your Christmas Organizer shut and on the back (which is the middle section of the organizer) use a thick piece of score tape and adhere some twine.
  • Then I covered the twine with some ribbon, leaving the twine unwrapped so it's able to wrap around to the front and make a bow.
  • I trimmed some paper and slid them into my slots and also took some patterned paper and decorated the outside of my pockets. You could label the pockets for each gift recipient if you'd like!
  • When you fold the top flap down you will notice I added an envelope for receipts, Christmas lists etc.

I hope you enjoyed my tutorial and if you would like to see how I colored this check out my blog using the link below for a coloring tutorial!

Remember, you can go back to post your take on this project and you will be entered for a chance to win a $50 Gift Code to the Power Poppy Shop. POST A LINK TO YOUR PROJECT HERE!

That’s right – you’ll have 12 ways to enter. Play along once or try all 12 days for more chances to win a $50 shopping spree to the Power Poppy Shop!

Okay...now for today's project!!

A couple of decades ago, I started making Gift Bag Toppers. I actually learned how from a Stampin' Up demonstrator, but since it was about 22 years ago, I can't for the life of me remember her name. The basics are pretty much the same, I just make my borders a bit different. I made a tutorial for it a few years ago that you can find HERE.

Now, for today's bag, I used three different Power Poppy Stamp sets: Tweet Tidings (front panel), Holly Golightly (border and tag), Glitter House Village (top of topper and background tag).

For the border of my topper, I cut out the size, and scored where instructed. Then, I stamped the holly all the way around with Tuxedo Black Memento Ink. I colored it with Copics and then stamped the snow background (from the Glitter House Village set), with Versamark and embossed it using Clear Embossing Powder (SU!) Then came the challenging part...fussy-cutting around all the holly.

I didn't get really particular, and it turned out beautifully, so it doesn't have to be perfect. Lastly, I ink distressed the whole topper with Antique Linen Distress Ink (Ranger), so make the snowflakes pop, and to age everything so it blends with the kraft gift bag. The flakes are hard to see in the photo, but in real life, they are a subtle charming little addition.

Next came the main panel. I started by die cutting the square (6x6 Matting Basics B - Spellbinders) and while the X-Press It cardstock was still in the die, I stamped the two separate Tweet Tidings Chickadees onto it with Tuxedo Black Memento Ink. That way I could maintain a clean white border. I then Ink Distressed the panel with Antique Linen Distress Ink again, and colored the images with Copics. Lastly, I added some White Liquid Applique to the snow portions of the image, sprinkling some Dazzling Diamonds glitter (SU!) on it before heating it with my heating tool. I love the sparkle and fun dimension.

Lastly, every gift bag needs a tag. And fortunately for us, Marcy has designed a fabulous set with a charming tag included. So, I stamped the tag along with one of the sentiments (from the Holly Golightly set), colored it with Copics and cut it out. I felt like it needed a base, so I took my Spellbinders Christmas Tag Set, die cut one of the tags using a piece of decorative paper from Echo Park's I Love Winter 6x6 paper pad. It was kind of plain, so I added an evergreen branch and a portion of a sentiment from the Glitter House Village set. It was stamped with Smokey Gray Versafine ink.

I hope you'll try your hand at decorating a gift bag with a topper. They are easy, and they eliminate the need for tissue paper, and the temptation of the recipients to peek. The topper makes it a bit harder after all. ;) If you do try this project, make sure to share by linking up your creation HERE! Of course, we would all love to see and if you link up your project, you'll be in the running for a $50 shopping spree to the Power Poppy Shop!

Please stop by again tomorrow to see how Mindy Baxter makes a little treat aimed at keeping better tabs on all your hoiday gift purchases!

That is finally it y'all!!  Happy Stamping!!

Holiday Day 6: Glitter House Village

Very warmest tidings of the day, my friends. I’m filled with joy (and coffee!) meeting you here for today’s preview from our Happiest Holiday 2017 collection of crisply-stamping clear polymer designs.

I’m actually writing this post from the same spot I was sitting three years ago, on a cozy hotel sofa in Indianapolis, while accompanying my true love on a business trip. Last go-round, I was creating the artwork for what would become one of our most loved stamp designs, O Holy Night. Today, I’m tickled to introduce a set that actually resembles that quaint snowy church, but with a decidedly “homespun” bent. Maybe you will recognize the references I drew upon for this artwork...

Is there anyone else out there who is completely taken with glittery cardboard houses?

Tiny cardboard treasures. Houses, churches, barns, bungalows — with simple window-and-door details, bottlebrush trees in their yards, picket fences, completely encrusted in sparkly micro-flittery glitter. Meant to be arranged into a snowy village setting to decorate a mantel or bureau. They are purely precious!

Originally popping up in the 1930s and 40s, these houses (some call them “putz” houses — a German word which refers to the act of moving around the little houses into a formation until you get them “just so”) were first available at dimestores. These days if you’re lucky, you can find original cottages and mansions and storefronts on eBay or in estate sale Christmas stashes (oohhhh, rummaging through folks’ old boxes of ornaments, the stuff of dreams!!) There’s been a resurgence of the popularity of cardboard Christmas houses, and many people are constructing their own. I have a collection of several, one of which looks a bit like our own house, complete with our house number painted on the front by my sweet mama after we moved in many years ago. They are ALWAYS placed in a position of prominence in my holiday displays.

I personally couldn’t be giddier about seeing so many glittery cardboard Christmas houses around the scene, and I thought it was high time to bring these sweet-and-simple structures into a stamp set... introducing Glitter House Village.

Isn’t that cute?? Holiday homes with wreaths and chimneys and snow drifts galore. Rather than provide single houses, I’ve designed a cozy scene of cottages surrounding a church — they are pre-“putzed”! — with plenty of bottlebrush trees. Glitter House Village is a large stamp that will fill the full card front (get out that MISTI, friends). I’m just going to be frank... it is sooooooo much fun to color and decorate. The variety of combinations is totally endless, and I hope to see you all experiment with them mightily.

We have some wonderful sentiments in this set, along with little accents to personalize your Glitter House Village setting: a snowy, starry sky, two different vintage “tree-topper-style” North Stars, and two swags for creating a repeating bough or a border.

Come see the Bloomies’ SUPERCUTE creations using Glitter House Village:

Is your mind swirling yet with the possibilities? I know mine is.... will I try this one in pretty light pastels? What about a version in all shades of green? Or classic white with colored roofs? No matter what, be sure to have plenty of glitter on hand to completely douse the whole scene.

Tomorrow will bring more holiday sweetness (dare I say, tweetness) and a bit of familiarity — just you wait! Enjoy your day to the highest, and I do thank you for spending some time with the Bloomies and me, we appreciate every little comment and bit of love you leave. You are the best!
