50s Apron

Falo muito em vestuário de outras décadas, mas a coragem para fazer roupa a partir de modelos vintage tem faltado. Já alguma vez olharam para um molde anterior a 1970? As ilustrações são ultra apetecíveis, mas quando se chega às instruções... oh là là. Quatro passos apenas, que afinal acabam por levar 16 horas a fazer. Dois dias de trabalho! Para fazer um avental! Há que decifrar as indicações, pois claro, e naquele tempo não havia atalhos. Enfim, mas valeu a pena. Sinto que aprendi alguma coisa, e sobretudo fiquei com um avental único!

I keep talking about clothes from past decades but never found the courage to sew from vintage patterns. Have you ever looked at a pattern prior to 1970? The illustrations are lovely but when you get to instructions... oh là là. Four steps only that end up taking 16 hours to complete. Two working days! To make an apron! You have to decipher the steps, oh yes, and they didn't take shortcuts back then. It was worth it though. I feel I actually learnt something and I got an unique apron!

Avental :: Apron

Mais um presente de Natal que fiz, este para uma tia minha que gosta de cozinhar: o avental do livro In Stitches da Amy Butler. Já o tinha visto noutros blogs e achei sempre que o corte devia ser bom e agora confirmo que é óptimo!

This is another Chistmas present I made, this one for an aunt who likes cooking: the apron from Amy Butler's In Stitches. I had seen it before across the blogosphere and I always thought that it seemed very well-cut, well, it is!

Preto, branco e algo mais / Black, white and something else

Ontem foi dia de arrumações em casa da minha avó. Entre pilhas de roupa para ficar, para dar e para deitar fora, consegui salvar (e trazer para casa) dois aventais vintage! Já os lavei e engomei; por favor, alguém me leve ao médico...

Yesterday was sorting and cleaning day at my grandmother's. Among piles of clothes to keep, to donate and to throw away, I managed to save (and bring home) two vintage aprons. I've already wahed and iron them; somebody please take me to the doctor's...

Este é o meu preferido: adoro a gola anos 60 e o pormenor do ponto de cruz bordado em linha verde em cima dos quadrados pretos e brancos.

This one is my favourite: I love the 60's collar and the green crosstitching over the black and white gingham.

Encontrei também este avental de cintura com um bolso gigante, ainda com a etiqueta da loja. Achei que tinha pouca graça, faltava-lhe qualquer coisa...

I also found this waist apron with a gigantic pocket, still with its label on. I got the feeling it was lacking something...

Então peguei no frasco dos botões encarnados...

So I grabed the red buttons jar...

E cosi seis botões que comprei em Bruxelas à volta do bolso. Ficou mais giro, não ficou?

And I sewed six buttons I bought in Brussels along the apron's pocket. Now it's much cuter, don't you think?
