REDNESDAY

Welcome to "the Rednesday after Sandy"! My post before this one deals with my experience with the hurricane. I have some thrift shop goodies to show you this week. It was one of those days that I hit the jackpot, after many weeks of hardly a thing to buy (except for last week). Here goes!

First item ~ a darling embroidered apron with strawberries that has a sheer gathered hem and sheer waistband and "strings".

Second ~ a wonderful Christmas apron that I just love because it's longer than normal - it actually goes to mid-knee. It has two roomy pockets and a surprising detail of a pleat in the center with three buttons at the top of the pleat! (If it was ironed out the pleat would be prominent, without the creases.)

Third and Fourth ~ cute little S&P's with black tops, and an Anchor Hocking "Wexford" round platter.

Fifth ~ a cheerful vintage Christmas gift box for $2 that has a dozen vintage ornaments inside!

Sixth, and last ~ a box of wrapping paper! Yay! Another $2 item!

These three remnants are raised with a velvety or glittery design.

Feel free to use the snowman print. He's too cute to keep to myself!

There was another item, but it's upstairs and I don't feel like going up with the camera for a pic. I'll try to remember next week!

THRIFT SHOP FIND

I went to a different thrift shop yesterday and picked up a few good finds. I am so pleased with this beautiful cedar (jewelry?) box that has a wonderful cottage scene on it, especially since it was only $3.00!

What pretty detailing and dove joints!

Will have to put a piece of felt or pretty paper on the bottom!

"Blue skies, smiling at me - nothing but blue skies, do I see"!

And a smiling sunflower, too!

REDNESDAY - SECRETS!

Can you keep a secret? Sure, you can! We all have harmless secrets that we keep from our spouse, family, best friends, etc. I have a secret - it's called my blog! It's a secret that Mister and my family know nothing about, except for my 18-yr-old (she could care less).

Why keep it a secret? It's like a diary, it's very personal to me. I can express myself anyway I want to here without criticism. Mister knows I read blogs and have blog friends, and win blog giveaways occasionally. He thinks that's wonderful - but he doesn't know I have my very own blog! ;) Of course, I don't write anything bad about him or others.

So, Monday he comes home with some stuff that was left on the curb after a weekend yard sale. I wanted to take pics of the great vintage graphics on some of them, so I used the excuse that I would look them up online to see if they were worth anything!

Aren't these fab?

This lid has got to be the best!

Not red, but the lettering is just too cool not to show!

I stole this one from him!

This is awesome! Why would anyone just leave this? He said this is his third vintage suitcase. Uh oh! An official collection!

Now, over to an unrelated pic (sort of). Mister picked up this drink tub with stand last year. It has a hole in the bottom for ice drainage. I knew that filling it with potting soil would be too heavy, so I cut a thick piece of styrofoam to fit most of the bottom half of the tub. Then went the potting soil and Impatiens that I grew from seed.
The cats enjoy laying underneath it, on the well cover! See that pile of mulch in the background? Another freebie! The house across the street from my mo-in-law is for sale and they were sprucing up the yard. This left-over mulch was in the driveway with a free sign, so of course Mister filled up the pick-up (one and a half times) and brought it home! Yay!

VTT - (EYE) CANDY ANYONE?

Okay, folks! I'm so excited and couldn't wait for today to show off my prize possession that I acquired Tuesday! I was at a local thrift store that I go to frequently. Puttered around . . . got the red box that I showed yesterday; found five of those old clear Pyrex custard cups; three square-ish solid color small plates in blue, orange, and yellow (in the dishwasher so will photo some other time); and some ribbon and lace pieces.

Then - I was poking through a deep drawer of an old dresser that's stuffed with scarfs and such when all of a sudden I noticed that some of the scarfs were in a cardboard box. I pulled the drawer out further and the box cover was standing up against the back of the drawer.

I took it out to look at the top of it, and it's all I could do to keep from screaming! Look at this!!!

I couldn't believe my eyes - it almost took my breath away! I LOVE cottages, especially these pointy-roof Victorian kind! It's got a RED roof, a picket fence, and a little cottage garden, along with red birds, and bright yellow clouds! This is soooo beautiful - one of those once-in-a-lifetime finds!

It's huge! It's 15" (37.5cm) wide by 7-1/2" (19cm) tall. The cover picture is in almost perfect condition - there's a dark stain on the left side of the house. The cover side rim is torn a bit, but who cares?

When I took all my loot to the cashier she was apologetic saying that, because it's a vintage item, it would cost me $4.00. I can live with that! She was apologetic because things there are priced ridiculously low - most everything is 25 - 50 cents or a dollar.

Here it is sitting happily in its new home - right above my computer where I can feast my eyes on it all the time! And, now, I can live "happily ever after", too!
(The plant in the little bottle is a Creeping Wire Vine, in case anyone's curious!)

I found this on the web a while ago and (of course) can't remember where I downloaded it from, but I think this could be categorized as "vintage"!
Now, everyone go back to Suzanne's (ColoradoLady) to see everyone else's wondrous vintage goodies! And, thanks for stopping by!

TOMORROW IS THE LAST DAY TO SIGN UP FOR MY GIVEAWAY - see the link in my upper left sidebar to check it out.

REDNESDAY - MORE VALENTINEYS!

Welcome once again, ladies and gents! I'm posting early this Tuesday night because I'm going to get LOST tonight - and nothing gets in the way of that! The house could fall down around me, but just don't pull the plug on the t.v.!

I have a few more Valentines to show this week. These first two are actually Christmas decorations that I didn't put on the tree this year but saved for now. I have a bunch of each kind and just stuck them up all over the place!

I hung up the cherry plates I got for Christmas and thought a pic would look nice from the angle of the tissue heart.

This is a Mary Engelbreit cardboard cookie box from Michael's craft store.

And, last - not a Valentine, but I was at a thrift shop this afternoon and got a totally awesome one-of-a-kind item that I can't wait to show you, but will do so for Vintage Thingies Thursday. In the meantime, I also picked up this cool dotty 11" x 11" (28 x 28cm) box.

I can't wait to tune in tomorrow to see what you all have to show! Oh, and don't forget about my Giveaway!

VTT - MORE NIFTY THRIFTIES!

Okay, Suzanne, I made it! It's 10:15 p.m.! Wow! Look at all the participants in today's VTT! Click the pic above to go to Suzanne's blog.

Busy month for everyone, I'm sure! I've just had a plain old busy week, what with getting out the Christmas decorations and all. I'll be posting those photos soon!

Here's a few more things I thrifted on Monday. This pretty box I think once held stationery. It's good-sized, 12" x 8" x 4-1/2" (30cm x 20 x 11.5), and has a paper-hinged lid. The Kellogg label is on the inside of the lid.

This is the other pretty hankie I got. All this purple will look very nice in my purple bathroom! Although if anyone has a similar Massachusetts hankie and wants to trade, let me know!

Mister gave me these for my birthday. This goes to show that men (in general) aren't very observant. We've been married 18 years and do you think he can remember that I decorate the tree in RED every year? Hmmm, I might have to have another giveaway before Christmas! (Don't worry, he doesn't mind; and he only paid five bucks for the box!)
Gotta run - don't forget that tomorrow (Friday) is the last day to enter my present Giveaway. See last Friday's post, 11/27, for details.

REDNESDAY - CHRISTMAS REDS #1

Welcome everyone to this first Rednesday of the Christmas season!

These first two items are from the thrift store on Monday. Would you believe I got the two gorgeous Christmas handkerchiefs for 35 cents each? I still can't believe my luck! (And, by the way, is anyone else irritated that the cent sign is no longer on the keyboard?) Now for a good washing!

The handkerchief is on the right, the left one is a napkin, and a cute little Santa hat.

This is a box of lights that Mister pulled out of the barn. He said it was in a cardboard box of miscellaneous lights he got at a yard sale years ago. I had to put tape on just about every corner and seam, but it looks just fine now!

And, this is a box of vintage wrapping paper that I got from Ebay. I love the cover best (standing up), which also needed a bit of tape!
I'm sure I'll be seeing lots of Christmas and holiday reds today! (P.S. - DON'T FORGET MY GIVEAWAY!)
