Guitar Center's Get Out of the Garage Contest

GOOTG Launch Artwork

Guitar Center launched an amazing artist discovery program, Get Out of the Garage, a few weeks ago – complete with the opportunity of a lifetime. What’s that opportunity exactly?

In exchange for submitting your music and videos and engaging your fan base – an artist or band can win the opportunity to record an EP at Converse Rubber Tracks Studios, collaborate with writer/producer Dev Hynes (Florence and the Machine, Chemical Brothers, Solange Knowles, etc.) and take stage at The Fader Fort during SXSW 2014! Did I mention the $25,000 in cash, gear from Fender, Vox and Martin Shure, and digital distribution through Tunecore too?

In tune with Guitar Center’s service of supporting artists worldwide, the new discovery program will provide one lucky unsigned artist with a giant platform for growth and development. “Guitar Center’s mission is to support musicians – whether by outfitting artists with top-of-the-line gear and impeccable style or providing a platform to share their music with large and influential audiences,” said Maria Brown, Manager of Music and Entertainment Marketing for Guitar Center. “We are excited to have a unique and fresh talent like Dev on board who has so much to offer artists in the independent music space. We couldn’t be happier with the collaborative aspect of this program.”

Guitar Center’s unique approach to engaging the artist community not only benefits artists, but also probably contributes to Guitar Center being the world’s largest retailer of musical instruments.  By collaborating with Converse and Rubber Tracks Studios – this program affords the winner the chance to record at a state of the art recording facility at no cost where their creative spirit will hopefully shine.

So what are you waiting for? To Submit Your Music for Get Out of the Garage visit: http://www.guitarcenter.com/getoutofthegarage

Swedish House Mafia Masquerade Takeover

Swedish House Mafia's swan song parades through Los Angeles in March.  Its called Masquerade Motel, but may as well be a full on music festival with the way it is being marketed.  The acts final west coast performance is a two day extravaganza taking place at L.A.'s State Historic Park near downtown.

Although Saturday March 9th is already sold out, you can still get tickets to the March 8th show here.  Support performers include Nero, Alesso, Clockwork, Monsta, Zedd, Sub Focus, No_ID and more.

SUPERGOODMUSIC is hosting a contest for tickets to the show.  We will be sending a lucky winner to night 1 and another lucky winner to night 2 - each with a homie or homette of their choosing.    The way you enter is by emailing contest@supergoodmusic.com, reposting this link on your twitter, facebook or blog and/or tweeting out @supergoodmusic @livenation_LA #SHMcontest.  We will choose winners sometime before March 1st - so the earlier you enter, the better!

Tonight in L.A. (January 2, 2013)

Its the first concert update of the year, on the second day of the month, and there are only about three choice recommendations we have for you because there really aren't even that many concerts going on....even The Satellite is dark!

Top on my list would be the launch of Eric McFadden's residency with Wally Ingram, David Graham and Lantz Lazwell.  We're privileged enough to be giving away a set of tickets to the residency - so holler at us on twitter with a @supergoodmusic and @mintLA mention or email us at contest@supergoodmusic.com.

On the other end of the spectrum, where you won't find many guitars, is Low End Theory at The Airliner with Dibiase, Mike Gao and Lebeatski or Dub Club with Anthony B at The Echoplex.

For some indie steeze - check out The Sister Ruby Band at Silverlake Lounge.

Full list of shows below:

  • DJ Chuchuchu @ Los Globos
  • Oak Street Blues, The Pocket Rockets, Bodhi @ Central SAPC
  • Eric McFadden Residency w/ Wally Ingram, David Graham, Lantz Lazwell @ The Mint

Tonight in L.A. (October 10, 2012)

The 10th day of October brings some noteworthy talent to Los Angeles' stages - some right at the apex of their hype (Grimes) and others just trying to keep milking the cow (Madonna).  Both will be spectacles for sure - and Madonna's not an artist to shake a stick at - but do you want to see her at Staples Center?

I'd recommend Grimes as she performs her second sold out event at El Rey Theatre with support from Elite Gymnastics, Myths and Brooke Candy.  Two other acts that are on point right now - Circa Survive and Grizzly Bear -headline tonight too.  Grizzly Bear takes to Greek Theater with Lower Dens opening while Circa Survive stands atop a rock bill with Touche Amore, Balance and Composure and O'Brother at Club Nokia.

Other fun shows include the filthy beats and danceable tunes of Opiuo and VibeSquad at The Roxy, A House for Lions at The Central SAPC, VUM's release event at The Echo and the indie rock cover stylings of Black Crystal Wolf Kids at The Viper Room.  We've got free tickets to giveaway for Opiuo - so tweet out to us (@supergoodmusic) and @theroxy to enter or email contest@supergoodmusic.com.

Tonight in L.A. - 9.26.2012 Concerts in Los Angeles

Enjoy your last Wednesday of September with the fresh sounds of Weapons of Audio, Peach Kings, Torches and Hey Champ at The Roxy.  Its an eclectic line-up – with the indie rock Outkast-esque Weapons of Audio leading it off and the synthesized pop tunes of Hey Champ closing it out.   The Peach Kings are a charming L.A. flavored indie rock outfit that are worth seeing more than once [she rocks  - promise ;) ] and I’ll be breaking my metaphorical cherry for Torches.  If you’re looking for a dosage of new(er) acts making quality music – head to The Roxy.  Want some free access? Get to twitter and tweet out @supergoodmusic @theroxy @weaponsofaudio @heychampmusic @thepeachkings to enter.  You could also buy tickets here.

Of course – there are other options too.  Low End Theory hosts Teebs and Astronautica for the beat scene and Iheartcomix presents Django Django, Vinyl Williams and HOTT MT for a party over at The Echo.

The Features with Army Navy at The Troubadour would be my second pick – you may be familiar with the Some Kind of Salvation Nashville infused indie rock styles that The Features are known for.  Well worth the cost of admission – as are The Killers at Fonda Theatre.
