The REPOS/FOURTEEN OR FIGHT Split 7"

Fourteen Or Fight Side:
1.Revenge of the latchkey kids
2.Agressive collector
3.combo amp a go go
4.godless America
The Repos Side:
5.no control
6.one last time
7.fugitive family 2
8.haha hardcore
9.alright!?!
10.fast decline
11.hollow trees

I put this one out many years ago on my label.  Pretty sure it was both bands first vinyl appearance.  I remember hearing the Repos demo in my bedroom in Albany NY… I was floored.  Totally reminded me of Septic Death meets Infest in some really warped way. So When I talked to Aaron from the Repos and he told me they were supposed to do a split with Fourteen Or Fight and it couldn't happen for whatever reason I jumped at the chance to help them out by releasing it.  Fourteen Or Fight was my old room mate Jon Arends hc band after Charles Bronson.  The band also featured Frank on vox who years earlier fronted the legendary MK Ultra.  The copy I have up on here is the limited to 30 copies or something… how can you go wrong with an 11 song 7".  Enjoy and Share

DEATHSQUAD-7" ep

1.Attack Retreat
2.Walking on Rusty Nails
3.Double or Nothing

This was a really fun band to play in.   It was really relaxing to do.  I worked with My buddy Mark Telfian painting houses all day, then we'd go write songs or practice them after work.  It was a great stress release.  This was recorded in 2003, and released on youth Attack Records while we were all living in Albany NY.  McCoy did the entire layout, and made it look as questionable as Telfians politics.  I  love it.  We wrote these songs in Altamont NY at Dan Barkers parents house.  He played drums.  My 'ol buddy/roomate Eric Schou played bass, Mark Telfian played guitar, and did the main vox.  I played lead guitars, acoustic guitars, and back up vox.
We recorded the ep at Will Dandy's Dead Air Studio in Western Mass.  At the time that Mark and I were writing these songs, we were heavily influenced by three bands.  Megadeth, Abc Diablo, and Citizens Arrest. Thats all I recall listening to during that time period. I don't think you can hear the influences so much, but that is what we were going for musically.  I wish we'd been able to do more together.  We recorded a demo tape, that later got pressed to vinyl, but thats really it... enjoy.

TERROR-Evil Of Terror 7"(1989)

1.dictator ship
2.timer
3.breaker
4.no see mine

Years before any one else was calling themselves Terror, these guys were playing as Terror.  I know very little about these Japanese thrashers.  My old Albany friend Louis J gave me this one back in the early 1990's.  All he said was "enjoy this Japanese rarity".   He was the first guy I'd ever met who went balls out collecting Japanese punk hardcore records.  It was like an addiction for the guy.  Even back in 1989 he was sometimes paying $75 for records that I thought he was insane for buying.  Turned out he was way ahead of his time.
The record is chock full of speed and blur.  I'd say they were influenced by the likes of SOB, Outo, Gauze, etc.  The vocals are what make this for me.  I love the Totally raw recording on this ep.  The songs are all like 3-4 mins long, but the only one with any metal influence that I'm here is "no see mine".  The others are all raging hardcore tunes with some cool breakdowns to boot.  Enjoy.

NOCTURNUS-s/t 7" ep(1993)

1. Posses the priest
2. Mummified

This ep was released just after the band had broken up, and even though there are only two songs on the ep, there is 10 mins worth of music.  These guys were one of the first death metal bands to incorporate a keyboard player both live and on records.   As any old metal heads out there remember key boards were a no no for most metal.  NO FUCKING KEYBOARDS!  When I first looked at their records I had the same thought. With these guys I always thought it worked pretty well though, as the themes of the songs were always pretty Sci-fi based, and it worked as cool back ground effects.  I was turned onto the band by Dave & Jack who owned Erl Records.  They would always call me up when new stuff came in, and throw stuff in the save drawer at their shop for me.  I first discovered Carcass, and Crossed Out through these guys and their Albany NY based record shop.  I picked up this bands first LP from them, and consistently kept buying other stuff from them that they released.  These dudes were total Technical death nerds, and influenced a slew of other death-tech bands.  The original line up included the first Morbid Angel drummer(who also sang).  Florida death metal will always have a place in my heart.

WISHFUL THINKING-rise to surprise 7"(1989)

1.positive I.D.
2.self-esteem
3.it goes both ways
4.end of fear
5.time out
6.inside out
7.hey fool!
8.barriers
9.rise to surprise

Here is some more Western Mass hardcore for you.  As stated in the Outpatients post before this, I mentioned I saw these guys in a basement with G-Man.  Wishful thinking blew me away live.  Total straight edge youth crew, but a bit more harsh sounding then say youth of today, etc.  I'd say Wishful thinking were influenced by lots of straight edge(duh...Minor threat for sure), but mixed in the speed and rawness of other bands from their area(Deep Wound, Siege, Outpatients, etc).  After I'd seen them, and got the 7" I tried to turn on the Albany folks I started to meet in the scene.  Albany was sorta weird though.  A very Straight edge, New York hardcore mentality existed here.  If it wasn't from NY, it wasn't of interest to about 80% of the scene.   Dudes in Albany who wanted to book, SNFU, Victims Family, Operation Ivy, and bands that weren't "hard" or "straight" had to book Judge, Token Entry, Super Touch, Sick Of It All, YOT, Breakdown, GB, etc. to get kids to come out to shows.  It was weird.
Years after seeing these guys, and getting the 7" from my Western Mass connection, I'd met, and become friends with the singer of Wishful thinking.  Mark Dargie, one of the nicest guys ever.  I think I met him selling his record collection at a show.  He's still around, and semi hip to whats going on.  Download this...nine ragers on this 7" ep slab.

REAL STEEL-s/t 7"(1987)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

1.Viking Queen
2.Excalibur

I don't know much about these guys, other then they aren't the band with the same name from Clevo., and they sound a lot like earlier Metallica. My friend Paul picked up the 7" for me while he was diggin' for rare punk platters in the wild a while back. No cover art on my copy. "Excalibur" is the winner out of the two songs. Enjoy.

9 SHOCKS TERROR/KILLERS split 7"

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Nine Shocks side:
1.strike transmission
2.new design
3.control is lost
Killers side:
4.blind eyed
5.at least we die
6.product
7.now this...

I had a long relationship with the dudes from 9 Shocks Terror. I first saw them at a radio show that my buddy Jim MacNaughton did at WRPI in Troy NY. The band didn't have any records out yet, but were traveling with an all female Japanese hc band called the Gaia. I was completely blown away by the ferocity that 9 Shocks provided at the show played to maybe 8 of us. The dudes were as old as I was, and still beat on their equipment like they hated everything and everyone. They gave me hope. I asked them to do a split with my band Devoid Of Faith... and they were into it. later on I'd asked them about this split as I'd become good friends with Mike from the Killers. Both bands were into the idea, and were really stoked at the idea I had to have Pushead do the cover art. I was talking a lot with him back then because he was doing DOF art, rex, etc. He was into the idea of doing the art, and I was shocked when he gave the okay for Mike(the killers)to do the back cover. Mike did a really good Pushead back then. After putting the two in touch with each other a relationship was born. This one didn't take as long to come out as most people would have expected. I did 3000, 1000 on blue, one thousand on green and 1000 on orange.

CUT THE SHIT-bored to death 7"

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

1.I do it to myself
2.burn the dance clubs
3.the party's over
4.bored to death
5.take back your life
6.get rowdy
7.life of misery
8.at what compromise
9.crooked teeth
10.I hate fashion

CTS were a Boston hardcore band that formed out of a bunch of kids that were going to college together. Paul the guitarist was from NJ and played in Tear It Up... we'd played some shows together. He was the only guy I really knew from CTS. He was an awesome guitarist and had a killer knack for doing artwork. He sent me the CTS demo tape, and even though it was about 4 mins in length, I was floored and wanted more. I immediately contacted Paul and asked him to do a 7" on my label. He was into it, and had a clear vision of exactly what he wanted the record to look like and sound like. I gave him pretty much free reign to do whatever he wanted. The record sold out pretty quickly, and I think we pressed between 1,500-2000 copies. I had a really awesome relationship with the band that sparked one 7", a 12" and a 10" on Gloom. Best dudes ever... nicest guys in hc during that time period. This is pure thrash.

SUBVERSE-give jesus back to the martians 7"(1989)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

1.so rich, so wise, so what?
2.armchair hero
3.light breaks through
4.never quit
5.poison mind
6.silver lining

I pulled this one out of my record collection to listen to over the weekend, because I thought of them after listening to the Nazi Dust 7" ep(a new release). After listening to the ND ep I was like.. this reminds me of Void and maybe some Subverse. So I dug out the Subverse ep to see if my memory was correct. It wasn't really. The vox are sorta similiar, and some of the riffing, but Subverse have a sound that goes from thrashing hectic hardcore, to some slower Amebix type parts. At any rate think RKL meets Amebix.
The band was from Vancouver Canada. I was first introduced to them by the split LP that they did with Desecration. I bought the record for the Desecration side, thinking it was the California metal band who later morffed into Corrupted Morals.
These songs are fucking awesome...everything about this stuff rules. The vox, and the drums especially. Enjoy.

KROMOZOM 4/ HEIMAT-LOS split 7"(1986)

KROMOZOM 4
1. Kromozom 4
2. La tuture
3. Tout faux!
4. Ich bin
HEIMAT-LOS
1. La seconde nécessaire de Léon Zyklon
2. Assisté
3. De vlag
4. Fascios fora!

I've done a lot of French music bashing on the site in the past, so I figured I'd make up for it by adding this killer thrash split ep. Both of these bands played blistering fast punk that we called thrash back in the day(before the word became over used and corny as hell). I really don't know jack about the bands, other than they started in the early 80's, and both put out a slew of records, and tapes.
What I can tell you is that I was turned onto this one by an old friend/band mate from the Romper Room Rejects. Michael R. was a French immigrant who was living in S.F. illegally in the mid 80's. /he was a house painter, and a punk rock bassist who turned me onto some cool European punk music in 1987-88. I've been wondering what happened to my friend for well over 20 years now.

BRAIN IMPLOSION-sandgrains 7"(1989)

1.sandgrains
2.intramural

Here is some more killer, under the radar thrash metal. This three piece band was formed by two brothers, in the Netherlands in 1987. Unfortunately They never recorded a LP or anything after this 7".
I found my copy in a used bin at some flea market on my first trip over to Europe, when the band I was in at the time(the Oath)toured over there. I think I paid a Guilder for it(before the Euro, so it was about .50 cents). I recall being pretty excited to get the record home(back to the U.S.)to listen to it.
I love the guitar sound, and the vocals on this one. It really is just straight up, no nonsense, no thrills thrash metal. If anyone has other info, or a demo by these guys I'd love to hear more about it. Enjoy!

DEADLESS MUSS-i will...7" (1985)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
1.Never Say Die
2.Peace Go Away
3.Freedom & Rights
4.God Willing
5.To Do Nothing
6.Future Memory

Deadless Muss are another of my favorite Japanese hardcore bands. A buddy of mine(Louis J)is responsible for turning me onto most all the early Japanese hardcore I've ever heard. I recall him playing this one for me via cassette on our way to see Poison Idea at the Anthrax. It was a two and a half hour drive there, and it turned out that Poison Idea had either canceled or the show was the week before or something. We sat through some other shit bands instead, and went to Trash American Style Record Shop. Remember, this was way before cell phones and the internet. If a band canceled or something happened, it was a bit harder to get the word out. Any way, Louis had like 3 tapes full of Japanese hardcore from all the 7"s and flexi's that he'd been collecting. It kept the 5 hour drive entertaining and educational. His words about these guys was something about them being a bunch of 16 year old kids who could play better then D.R.I.
This all happened in around 1989 or 1990. Much love and Respect to Louis! Thanks.

DISCLAIM-fuck money 7" (1989)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

1.living conditions
2.dirty army
3.fighting man
4.dear my women
5.fuck money
6.tom and jerry
7.win a game
8.combat spirits

I'm pretty sure I got my copy of this Japanese hardcore slab from Pushead. This was back When he was actively doing his label, and had contacted Devoid Of Faith to do a record. We'd spend time on the phone talking about records and hardcore. He was surprised that I didn't have this one, and said he had numerous copies.
I'd randomly get packages from the dude with cool records, posters, stickers, etc. It was always a great surprise. My buddy Jim who was the singer bassist of DOF, got a DOF/pushead sweater with the DOF pushead art from the guy. This thing was Limited to only 4 made. So amazing...
This is a solid release that came out on Temple Of Love(Fear Of God, Hellbastard, etc). The label was an innovator, and for me right up there with the likes of Slap A Ham, and Off The Disk for putting out extreme, underground hardcore. Enjoy.

The BANG GANG-she ran...but we ran faster 7" (1983)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

1.dickhead
2.stupid people
3.4x the fun
4.Charlie lives in our hearts

These guys were a obscure hardcore punk band from San Antonio Texas. I first heard them in the late 80's on the compilation LP "cottage cheese from the lips of death". From what I know they only appeared on that comp, and this 7" ep. I think people from outside the area were pretty offended by the bands record cover, record title, and song titles/lyrics. From what I've heard people from the area, and people that knew them knew that this record was a total joke, and they were just trying to have fun(yeah I know, at womens expense), and trying to offend people. It's no wonder people could give two shits about this record... their loss, because this record is a heafty punk rock ripper.

IMPULSE MANSLAUGHTER burn one naked, and nuke it 7"(1986)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

1.sack o shit
2.ratbag
3.slithis
4.nothing
5.sedation
6.chaos
7.contradiction
8.oatmeal

I was turned on to this band by my neighbor/friend Eric Meade when I lived in San Francisco, back in the mid 1980's. Eric turned me on to so much in the way of obscure music back then. He was one of the most open minded people I'd ever met.
I think I heard the LP first, and then later mail ordered this ep from the band directly(thanks MRR). These guys played some Some pretty Brutal crossover, that I could relate to in every way. It was a great merging of metal and punk. Listening back its so ahead of its time. This records been with me a long time now. The band was always pretty obscure, and really under-rated hailing from Chicago. The vocals are pretty harsh sounding considering the time period. Back in the 80's it was sort of a no brainer that a 7" was worth picking up if it had 8 or more songs on it. Still hard to believe that I used to order 7"s for $2.50ppd. Where have all the good times gone?

M.C.T. s/t 7" (1987)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

1.Like Me
2.But They Did
3.Free To Kill
4.Save The Whales
5.Drugs and Pornography
6.Birds of Prey
7.Parallel 45
8.Out of Touch
9.Some People
10.Sho bud
11.Brians Got The Stomach Flu

Just finished up with a move and getting into a new house, so I've been busy with that, and haven't posted much here these days. Pulled this one out of my move in box, and decided to post it. MCT were a Wisconsin hardcore punk band from the 1980's. I'd read a review for this 7" in MR&R in 1988 and wrote to the band to pick it up. I'd ended up getting a letter back from two brothers in the band, thanking me for ordering it, and telling me of plans to record a second ep. Another year or two later I received the second ep in the mail without even purchasing it.
These guys are pretty obscure, and quirky. In my opinion You can't really go wrong with any 1980's Eleven song ep. The best songs are "parallel 45", "birds of prey" and "drugs and Pornography"... killer guitar riff in the chorus.

SARACEN no more lonely nights(1981)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
01.no more lonely nights
02.rock of ages

Saracen were a Nwobhm band that I first heard in around 1982. I bought the single at a strawberry's Records and Tapes, and for the life of me can't fathom how I was so into this back then, especially after listening back to the A side song "no more lonely nights" recently. Seriously cheesy shit. The band formed in the mid-late 70's and you can tell when listening to this tune, It's like a heavier Foreigner. The B side song "rock Of Ages" is a total catchy rager though that has me some what understanding how I was able to buy these dudes records back then. Reminds me of typical Neat records stuff, with a riff so good Maiden should have ripped it. Do yourself a favor and listen to "rock of ages" before the other download. The main riff is awesome. I liked the bands LP that came out after this(their debut record), but After that the band totally shit the bed. Beware, if you hate keyboards, and don't dig corniness, you shouldn't even bother with this. Not so metal, def not punk.

NAUSEA psychological conflict 7" (1991)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

01.cold system
02.reanimator

This Nausea is not to be confused with the NYC political punk band(although I was introduced to the punk one first). This Nausea will most definitely be loved by fans of Terrorizer, because the bands shared members, and had the same brutal crusty-grind sound that went on to influence others world wide. Oscar Garcia played guitar and sang for both Terrorizer and Nausea, It is a factor in the shared sound for sure. Supposedly Terrorizer used some songs by Nausea for the "world downfall" LP, as both bands were around during the same time period and shared members. Both Bands formed in around 1987. Terrorizer broke up in 1988, while Nausea plugged along for a few more years.
The first I'd heard of them was in around 1989 or so, and it was only because of their hard to find split LP with Terrorizer that I discovered these gods. This rarity came out on Baphomet Records in 1991.

STOSSTRUPP Kein schöner Land 7"(1983)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

01.neue welt
02.neo's
03.kein schoner
04.im namen des volkes

What's pretty incredible to me, and many a hardcore punk record collectors is what had happened to, and why the Rock O Rama Record label went from releasing amazing punk records in the early 1980's, to then releasing white power stuff such as Skrewdriver, Brutal Attack, etc? Its mind boggling really. The early stuff on the label was this sorta obscure scandi-German noisy punk rock that even to this day is influencing newer and younger punk bands from around the globe. Stosstrup were one of those raw noisy punk bands. Other early releases include Skeptix, Ohl, Bastards, Razors, Appendix, Tarveet Kadet, Riistetyt, etc.
When I moved to the city, and gas prices started going through the roof, I made the decision to trade an old classic muscle car for some old and classic punk records. I made a weird record trade with My friend Dan, who back in the late 80's-90s was known in Albany as "Gerber Skin"(because of his baby like appearance). As a collector I'd traded records many a times, but Dan was interested in something else. Yup, a 1967 dodge dart GT that I had owned, and was just letting it sit to collect dust and mold. We made the trade, I ended up with this tasty slab of wax that came out out on the Rock O Rama Label. I ended up with a bunch of skinhead rock n roll records. Dan ended up with my car and a Slayer tape in the tape deck. He later painted the car and made a brother proud. It was a good trade for the both of us.
The cover art on this record always looked so brutal to me. I was so happy to finally have it.

GIBBED eternal life 7" flexi (1990)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

01.terminate the bloody state
02.manufacture of nation
03.suicides scatter
04.brain muilation
05.repulse the life
06.inevitable dread

Gibbed were a Japanese Death/grindcore band, and to my knowledge only released this ep along with a split with the Japanese band Multiplex. I know very little about Gibbed, although there are rumors that it was CFDL, & SOB members. Sort of doubtful if you ask me. The songs are rough, raw, and fierce, with very little care about production. This is my second copy, bought it from a friend recently for a price I couldn't pass up. My other copy is home at Moms, so this was perfect to buy and throw up on the site.
In the early 1990's I was in a straightedge grindcore band who were influenced by everything from Bolt Thrower, Brutal Truth, Sinister, Fear Of God, S.O.B., Napalm Death, Citizens Arrest, and yup, you guessed it Gibbed. My buddy Devon and I pushed John to approach is vox in the way the gibbed vocalist did. We def also loved the cover art work(I think it shows in the Human Greed split). I originally got my copy of this from my buddy Roger(the ex vocalist in my band Intent).
