NO ALLEGIANCE-Mad LP (1986)

Anyone that has followed this blog over the decade that its existed knows of my odd love of German 80's hardcore.  I was turned onto a lot of it by two Germans who spent time in SF hanging with my buddy Zoran and I in around 86-87.  After they left back to Germany I'd get random mixed tapes of obscure German hc in the mail.
This is one of those bands I was turned onto by these guys.  I had to work pretty hard to find the actual vinyl of it back then.
Pretty raging thrashy hardcore that at times remind me of the almighty Black Flag (check out the song Last Mistake).
Listening to this one brings back many happy memories.  Enjoy!

fucking Metal!!!  This should not be confused with the cock rock band with the same name.
I wasn't familiar with these guys in the early days.  It wasn't until the 90's that I was introduced to them by this metal freak named John who would frequent the comic shop I worked at.  John would swing by every week, and give me cassettes of demo's and rare obscure metal records that he had dubbed for me.  What I recall most about this dude was that he lived at home with him mom, but had a porn addiction that i'd say matched almost any one I'd ever met.  Dude drove around in this clunker of a car(like a la barren I think), blasting metal on his tape deck, with his video porn collection stored in the trunk so that his mother wouldn't find it at home.  Totally hilarious.  All I could ever imagine was him getting in an accident, or pulled over by the cops who searched his car only to find a huge stash of porn in the trunk.  At any rate John taped me one of this bands demo's from the 80's.  Years later I saw this sucker and knew I needed it.  I guess this German Black/Death/Thrash band flew under my radar because I was more interested in Sodom, Kreator, and Destruction.  At any rate this compiles a bunch of demo tracks, a live tune, and some other rarities.  The band formed in the early 80's, and signed some bogus contract that didn't allow them to record anything for some time.  This lead to inactivity, and then the bands break up.

STOSSTRUPP Kein schöner Land 7"(1983)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

01.neue welt
02.neo's
03.kein schoner
04.im namen des volkes

What's pretty incredible to me, and many a hardcore punk record collectors is what had happened to, and why the Rock O Rama Record label went from releasing amazing punk records in the early 1980's, to then releasing white power stuff such as Skrewdriver, Brutal Attack, etc? Its mind boggling really. The early stuff on the label was this sorta obscure scandi-German noisy punk rock that even to this day is influencing newer and younger punk bands from around the globe. Stosstrup were one of those raw noisy punk bands. Other early releases include Skeptix, Ohl, Bastards, Razors, Appendix, Tarveet Kadet, Riistetyt, etc.
When I moved to the city, and gas prices started going through the roof, I made the decision to trade an old classic muscle car for some old and classic punk records. I made a weird record trade with My friend Dan, who back in the late 80's-90s was known in Albany as "Gerber Skin"(because of his baby like appearance). As a collector I'd traded records many a times, but Dan was interested in something else. Yup, a 1967 dodge dart GT that I had owned, and was just letting it sit to collect dust and mold. We made the trade, I ended up with this tasty slab of wax that came out out on the Rock O Rama Label. I ended up with a bunch of skinhead rock n roll records. Dan ended up with my car and a Slayer tape in the tape deck. He later painted the car and made a brother proud. It was a good trade for the both of us.
The cover art on this record always looked so brutal to me. I was so happy to finally have it.

SODOM-ausgebombt 12"(German version)1989

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

01.Ausgebombt
02.don't walk away
03.incest(live)

There are only Three songs on this 12"ep, but they're all special if you're a die hard Sodom fan. Ausgebombt is done in German here, and the vocals done this way really make this sound punk as shit. The song originally came out on the agent orange LP, but was done in English there, so this is a little treat. Next up is "don't walk away" which is a Tank cover, and also sounds different from the LP version. Last up is an excellent live track, that is spot on, and sounds like a metal fueled blur. You know... a whirlwind, the way Sodom usually sound.
This Band were gods to me in the 1980's along with Destruction, and Kreator. listening to them gets me thinking about high school and how much I hated every aspect of it. Bands like this helped to create an escape for me.
RIP Witchhunter!

DEAD- slaves to abysmal perversity 7"(1993)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

01.delicious taste of vaginal excrements
02.thrusted to the limit of delights
03.slaves to abysmal perversity
04.gathering for lust

Dead are not dead, and amazingly are still around today. This death/grind band are from Germany and play the hilariously grotesque style known as "pornographic gore grind"(though they are more on the death metal end of things musically). The lyrics are totally ridiculous, and definitely written to offend. The songs are all about twisted brutal sex acts that to most people would seem pretty sexist for sure(if one actually cares). This is the bands second ep, I'm Pretty sure they released a few demo tapes before the eps. Musically Dead remind me of Dying Fetus meets Bolt Thrower(the drums man, the fucking drums). This era of death metal is at the end of an amazing peak. '93 really seems to be like the last year of this style in which I was still paying any attention. After '92, '93 bands were just over produced, sounding the same, and triggering their drums just for fucks sake. Dead at this time were raw, and heavy as shit.
Listening back to this ep sorta takes me back... I can recall sitting around a few years ago in Albany with my old house mates/band mate John and Nick Crud Bomb, joking about this band, and other bands with the "porno gore" lyrics. I mean look at the cover... totally awesomely stupid.

1. Voulez Vous
2. Hallo Nachbar
3. In meinem Zimmer
4. Oh Mama
5. Geh doch nach drueben

HOA were another of the West German hardcore bands from the mid 1980's that has always been overlooked, and in my opinion underrated. The bands live shows were said to be awesome and filled with tons of angst and youthful energy(much like what was happening in the States at the time). As I stated in the Sons of Sadism post, I bought this used for like a dollar on my way back to Albany NY from Northern Cali along with the SOS ep. I loved my German stuff, and the name was really cool at the time, so I wasted no time grabbing this slab. The band went on to do a split LP with Manson Youth who were also a German band whom was also on my radar. The title track to the ep is the winner on this ep, the guitar riff and tone are just perfect.

Anyone who knows me, or has been keeping up with this blog knows how much I loved German hardcore punk and thrash metal back in the day. It was my fetish in the 1980's. This is a second copy(spare of this ep). I first heard it after randomly picking it up used at a record store in the mid west, on a drive I made when I moved from Northern California to NY. I picked up the Hostages Of Ayatollah 7" as well at the store. I was already into my German stuff, so when I saw the address, and date I knew I needed this $2 7". These guys had a impact on how I attacked the bass. I was a guitar player, but played bass in a band called Intent in 1990. I loved the fact that you could actually noodle about, and play melodic type scales in fast riffs. S.O.S. made me realize you could do that in hardcore. This stuff is mainly faster, yet catchy hardcore that is sung in German. These were still the days when the wall existed between East and West Germany, and the cold war was still in its prime. I think this is what made underground music so angry and good in Germany back then. People were frustrated.. Through buying random private press records like this, I made many friends, over seas pen pals that turned me onto weird obscure international stuff. Enjoy.

CHALLENGER CREW/EVERYTHING FALLS APART split LP (1987)

18.my dream

If you read my blog at all you know that as a youngin' I was pretty obsessed with German hardcore. Both these punk bands were from West Germany during the time when the wall was still up, and people were pissed off. I was turned onto Challenger Crew because I saw the name and fell in love with it. I later found their 7" ep after seeing it advertised in Maximum RNR. After getting that I found this obscure gem of an LP, that know one I've ever known has given two shits about.
Another record that makes me think of my move home/ cross country trip back to Albany NY, from Livermore California in 1989. I left some good friends back there(Kenny, Kurt, Zoran), and listening to this record makes me recall my thinking about if I was making the right decisions at the time. I was unsure of what I was doing moving back, but somehow felt it necessary for family stuff. That's all I was thinking about on the drive through the mid west, and I listened to a lot of this album on my crummy tape player.
EFA played a style of hardcore that made me think of the second Christ On Parade record. Especially the vocals. Don't be put off by the mellowness of the first songs intro, this record gets moving, and is raw as shit hardcore. Challenger Crew played a more crossover style of thrashing hardcore that has influences of Attitude Adjustment mixed with the likes of some German punk(Tu Du Hospital, Sons Of Sadism). Great stuff from both these guys, and I've stolen many a riff from both bands. don't let the fact that they were German deter you from downloading some great 80's punk/hardcore.

CROWD OF ISOLATED I try to tell...LP (1987)

9.under pressure
10.die for your country!
11.love of my life
12.the own love song

COI were part of the mid 80’s German Hardcore/punk scene. I was heavily into this shit back then. I don’t know why I obsessed over German stuff so much back then. Could be the fact that there was a wall up between West and East Germany, and things were socially fucked up in both places, and it made for good music. When I think of Crowd of Isolated I think of other German bands like Sons of Sadism, Challenger Crew, Hostages Of Ayatollah, Spermbirds, Tu Du Hospital, etc. I also can’t help thinking about Iron Maiden. These guys really have a maiden influence that works well with their style of hardcore/punk. I’m sort of doubting it was intentional. I definitely hear it in both the bass playing, and sometimes the vox.
Listening to this again makes me think back to a trip I did across country when I moved home to Albany NY from Livermore California. I taped this LP, and must have listened to it 3 times a day in my shitty tape deck that was in my 1972 purple AMC Gremlin. Good memories. This is the type of record you can find for almost free(if you can locate one), as it was obscure even in the 80’s. Can’t imagine any one besides myself remembers this stuff. The last 3 songs are all on track 10.

This is a great find from my tape trading days, with other like minded people from around the globe in the 1980's. It was seriously so cool to trade unknown underground punk and metal bands music with people from other places back then. It was a real connection, and took a serious amount of effort to find these people, and to get the trading to begin. It was cool to think about the fact that there was some German guy sitting in Berlin or some place, who was as obsessed with true underground music as you might be, and that he/she was taping you some band you'd never heard from their region of the world. Looking back, I'd never have guessed that we would be where we are now with technology, the internet, etc. It really has made things like tape trading virtually instinct.
Inferno were of course from West Germany... yup back then East Germany was part of Russia, and the two had not become unified again yet.
Inferno were one of the fastest, loudest, rawest bands from that part of Europe. Its easy to see that both Japanese and Swedes later stole parts of their noisy sound and made it part of their own. The band did a slew of great releases, one of the LPs can be found here in my blog, and the most famous release is the Execute split on Pusmort records. I can recall getting this tape, and just listening to it over and over, wishing that I could understand the lyrics, yet knowing the lyrics were about the same bullshit that I was feeling everyday back then.
I did not include all the songs from this tape, as there were countless jams, and 16 seemed to be enough to throw on here. The stuff sounds pretty awesome considering the tape is over 20 years old. Enjoy.

PARADOX product of imagination LP (1987)

3.Death Screaming and Pain
4.Product of Imagination
5. Continuation of Invasion
6.Mystery
7.Kill That Beast
8.Pray to the Godz of Wrath
9.Beyond Space
10.Wontan ll

These guys were a Pretty awesome, obscure and overlooked thrash metal band from Germany. The back cover was totally corny looking, and you almost wouldn't be able to tell how awesome they were based on some bad mustache's, and the spandex outfits. Dudes almost look like the little bros of the Scorps. None the less this shit is fast, and raw thrash. I was obsessing over German thrash metal, and hardcore during the late 80's. No idea why (well, it prolly had something to do with Destruction, and Sodom).
This is one of the first records I ever bought at Erl records when I moved back to Albany from S.F. How could I go wrong, it was $3.99. Dave the owner back then, would allow you to drink in the store, smoke in the store, etc. It was a great place to gather together with buddies, talk about music, and drink some Jagermiester. He didn't really dig metal, so anything he got in used, was cheap! This store was one of my all time favs.

VENDETTA go and live..stay and die LP (1987)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

1.suicidal lunacy
2.go and live...stay and die
3.traitors fate
4.system of death
5.drugs and corruption
6.revolution command
7.on the road

More under the radar German thrash metal from the late 80's here. These guys did not stick solely to the German thrash sound of their kraut brothers, Kreator, or Destruction. These dudes added lots of that famous bay area thrash style on this their 1st LP. Unfortunately the band only released one more record after this one. Think early Metallica meets Destruction, thats how I've always described these gents. The lyrics were always good, and based on punk hardcore type issues of the time... corruption, greed, war, drugs, corporations, etc.
I was turned on to these guys by this crazy junkie dude named Vince in SF, who ended up stealing a 1969 Gibson SG from me. I'm sure he is long dead by now, he looked like walking death in 1988. I felt sorry for him, as he'd sell his ass on Polk street to old men, so that he could get his next fix. I was naive and young, and had no idea this dude had such a serious problem until it was to late. I'd say eventually I was better off having him take the guitar, because in the end it was the last time I ever saw him, and I guess In a weird way I sorta had to pay to get him outta my life, right? At any rate I ended up with a small handful of his records that he would leave in a corner of my house in San Fransisco. Dude would come over like once a week, all tweaked out, get me stoned, then play my guitar for hours on end to his small pile of metal records. Looking back at it, the entire situation was amazing.

10. Gninraw
11. Time to Change
12. Who's the Terrorist
13. Now You're a Big Boy
14. Live Your Own Life
15. Slave

These punk thrashers were from Belgium, and I'm doubting to many people remember them. I originally bought this LP because I thought that that part of Europe was all pretty much the same. Sorry... Yup, thought they were kraut related, and anyone that reads this blog knows that I have a weakness in my heart for Germans, and thrash. The members of this band were between the ages of 16-19 when this LP was recorded, just pups. The band were a straightedge band, though musically or lyrically you couldn't tell. I used to trade letters and got this record from the singer, Bollie. The songs on this obscure and under rated LP are all pretty fast except for the opening first song. The others are all faster than the sound of light. The songs mostly all time in at around 2 mins or more, which is of course long for a hardcore punk band, but works well. The production is raw as hell, and works well with the solos and shit, keeping this from ever feeling metal. Enjoy and comment!

DARKNESS-death squad LP (1987)

1. Invasion Sector 12
2. Critical Threshold
3. Death Squad
4. Staatsfeind
5. Tarsman of Chor
6. Faded Pictures
7. Iron Force
8. Burial at Sea
9. Phantasmagoria

More neck snapping, frantic, under the radar, grade A German thrash metal. The best thing about this album to me has always been the complex guitar solos, and the tight, rapid drumming. Lots of German high speed riffing here, that doesn't get boring!
I bought this in around 1989 because I liked the cover art (sorta reminded me of the Slayer pic disc, plus members were baring MDC and DRI shirts on the back cover. The bands influence on me can be seen in a band I was in that named ourselves after the title of this album, DeathSquad. I love this one, always have.

7.legions of evil
8.wife of the devil
9.nightmare
10.heavy metal soldiers

These German metal gods formed in around 1980 in Hamburg, and put out a slew of obscure records. This one is my favorite by them. Think Judas Priest meets some solid German speed metal. Iron Angel along with Living Death, Running Wild, etc never really broke like the other big three in German thrash. I guess thats because these guys played a cheesier brand of metal (remember thrash was just taking hold). These guys were still writing songs with titles like heavy metal soldiers, and sort of changed their original metal style to fit in with the thrashathon that was taking place all over the world.
Another record that I bought at Worlds records, and listened to while partying hard in Latham NY with my friends Dave Stevenson, Adrian, and Mark Szwarcberg. We loved fucking metal!

A Great Hardcore band from West Germany, who are probably most famous and remembered for their split LP with Japans Execute. These guys played some great melodic, fast hardcore thrash that was sung in both German and English. Awesome sing along backing vocals keep me humming along in my head. A very young Pushead did the cover art on this one. This LP came out in 1983 on Mülleimer Records.
More Influence from my buddy Louis(luke), who turned me on to Inferno in around 1989. I was addicted to German thrash metal, then later German Hardcore. Its all I listened to for several years.
This is a clean rip from A CD of the LP. enjoy.

NECRONOMICON-s/t LP (1985)

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

1. Dark Land
2. Possessed By Evil
3. Bloody Revenge
4. Insanity
5. Blind Destruction
6. Hades Invasion
7. Magic Forest
8. Iron Charm

Okay, these German giants sounded much like, and owe Destruction a lot for laying down the foundations of German thrash metal. I guess its really the vocals that sound the most like Destruction on this 12"(though the screams are total Slayer). What I most liked about these guys were the sloppy approach they used to playing/recording metal on this record. It almost comes across as punk due to the fact that its played so raw and untight, mainly due to the drums I guess. The back cover photo rules, as most the members have Discharge "charged" hair do's going. That alone is probably why I ended up buying this rarity in the first place. This is a complete rager, that has probaly gone on to influence much black metal these days.

8. Deathly Blessing

Total German cult thrash band from the 80's. This is my favorite album by them(of all three). Another record I got from my buddy Louis/Albany. The reason I was interested in this was due to the animal rights stance that these metalheads took. Vegetarian, metal heads playing animal rights thrash metal was pretty much unheard of. This came out on the German label We Bite records.

KREATOR-Terrible certainty(1987)

1. Blind faith

3. Terrible certainty
4. As the world burns
5. Toxic trace
6. No escape
7. One of us
8. Behind the mirror

Along with Destruction, Kreator were a very important part the German thrash metal scene and helped to create it. A three piece band that just never slowed down.
I was listening to Destruction first (in high school), but soon after that discovered these dudes... Lots of listening to this album while drinking and smoking up a storm with buddies like Zoran, and Kenny D. This stuff would pump me up before bombing hills with my skateboard in SF.
