Blue Monday...? More like a Mid Century Modern Monday Here!

 Happy Monday!

So today is supposedly the most depressing day of the year and along with being Martin Luther King Day, it is also known as Blue Monday.

TBH I've been too busy juggling 'lockdown life' to even think about Blue Monday! BUT I did manage to squeeze in a couple of cards in between home learning (priorities...right?) and I am here today to hopefully add some cheer to you day with some Mid Century Modern Florals inspiration.

I may have taken a little bit of inspiration from it being Blue Monday with my chosen colours and they aren't 'traditional' Mid Century Modern colours. But I was also inspired by the current Just Us Girls challenge seen HERE.

I recently treated myself to a new Mid Century Modern book for inspiration and because I just love looking at and learning about surface pattern design! But I have been looking at the patterns created with the geometrics during this style period and recreated my own version using elements from the Mid Century Modern Florals clear stamp set.

I used Altenew colours Iceberg, Eastern Sky and Ultramarine for my trio of blues, stamping the detail in black ink for it to stand out. The sentiment is from Birthday Sentiments and I have raised it slightly using 1mm thick foam adhesive.

This lead on to my second card for today...

I had to make at least one of my cards floral! For this card I started out by stamping the Background Block Mid Century Modern II onto a piece of card in the Ultramarine ink twice to create a long strip to fit across my card. Almost representing the ground.

I then stamped a selection of  the elements in the same shades of blue as the first card to build my own Mid Century Modern flower. There are so many mix and match possibilities in this set.

Again, I used the same sentiment and just added a few Nuvo Drops to the flower centre and to accentuate the sentiment.

That's all from me today. I hope that

Sweet Baby...

Hey & Happy Monday!

I do hope that your week has started well?

Mine started EARLY, 5:45am to be exact, all thanks to a little bean that decided it was time to get up and was refusing to go back to sleep even in mummy and daddy's bed. He was shortly joined by his brother and they were demanding breakfast! There is one thing I've learned with these beans and that is when they are hungry, they are HUNGRY!

Anyway, onto some baby talk (nope, I am not pregnant and nor will I be anytime in the future!) a CCAD college friend of mine Abbie, who also did some work experience with Uniko back in 2013 recently (8 weeks ago) had a baby boy... Rory James Paul.

Yep, I am a super bad at taking this long to make a card :( but here is what I made in the end...

Of course I had to give Sweet Baby a dust off and ink up AND no surprises really that I made a shaker card too ;) I had planned on sharing this card on Friday and to link up at last weeks Less is More challenge, but I simply ran out of time. Story of my life at the moment!

Short and sweet tonight as I've still a few emails to catch up on and this mummy needs some sleep! Thanks for stopping by and see you tomorrow for my CAS Colours & Sketches card.

Hugs

One I Forgot to Share!

Hey!

It's not very often that I make a card and forget to share it! Anyway, I did come across todays card on my camera, which I made back in November last year for CAS Colours & Sketches birthday challenge.

Here it is...

I didn't share it on that post or as a reminder for the challenge, because I felt it wasn't CAS enough. The challenge was a colour challenge and shades of blue, which I thought appropriate for a masculine card and one using geometrics - a good 'go to' choice for those pesky men ;)

I started by stamping the sentiment, which is a mix of All Occasion Sentiments #2 and Simply Said Birthday (partial stamped from On Your Birthday stamp). The large circles are from Background Builders: Round In Circles (back in stock in the next week or so). The smaller circles are from the recently retired Essentially Christmas clear stamp set. I finished the card off with a trio of enamel dots, which matched the colours perfectly.

That's all I have to share today, but I will be back tomorrow with my regular CAS Colours & Sketches card. Until then, thank you for stopping by today :)

News...!

Hey!

What a gorgeous Spring day it is here in the NE of England :) the sun is shining and it's pretty hot out there! I do love the sun and warm weather, but this afternoon whilst the little beans are napping I've been making a card, so I am back as promised with this to share & some news...

So, I am a little late sharing the news here at Uniko Studio, but our lovely Gillian & husband welcomed their precious baby boy James George Ross into the world on April 1st. Congratulations Gillian he is so cute. Be sure to stop by Gillian's blog HERE and send your best wishes.

It was only right that I inked up Sweet Baby and as always I couldn't resist using the bear ;) I coloured him simply with SU! markers and fussy cut him out before adhering him to some note book die cuts. These are mounted to the card base using foam adhesive.

CASology even said it themselves, but they have a rather fitting challenge on their blog this week, the theme being NEWS! Gillian is a DT member over there too, so they are having a little celebration & it's only right I join in & link my card up over there. Be sure to check out the challenge HERE.

Ok, that's all from me today, I can hear and see movement on the bean monitor! I'll be back again on Saturday with another card to share & a Design Team Blog Hop :)

Until then, thank you for stopping by today.

Winter Blues

Hey & Happy Weekend!

Like with many occasions the hype of such events always seems to lead to a downer and feeling blue. This time of year it's the Winter Blues and to get me out of my post festive downer and instead of resorting to chocolate & not wanting to break my healthy living intentions I decided to try and get creative and made this card for my Nephews upcoming birthday next week...

Good old Background Builders: Round In Circles came to the rescue again for this 'boy' card! This time I paired it with the solid balloon from Label Love: Birthday and a mix of sentiments which are listed below in the supplies.

The new "Less is More" challenge HERE helped with the colour choices for this card. The challenge is titled Winter Blues and to use shades of blue. I used 3 shades of blue on my card all from SU! The rows of open polka dots were stamped first in Bashful Blue then the birthday and balloon in Pacific Point and finally the happy and grunge circles in Marina Mist. The balloon string was hand drawn using the SU! markers and a ruler. A good dose of glitter to the balloon finished the card off.

That's all from me today, I am going to try and make another card before it's time to get the tea on. I hope you're all having a lovely weekend. Until tomorrow, thank you for stopping by :)

Colour Splash!

Hey Y'all!

Today I have a card to share that has a splash of colour, I was inspired by the current Play Date Cafe challenge, Colour Splash. The colour for this challenge is Blue, my favourite colour ...

As the colour is used A LOT for masculine cards I decided to make a masculine card! I pulled out my trusty  EXTRA TIME stamp set & a couple of PTI dies and this is what I came up with ...

I decided to use 2 shades of blue on my card, Spring Rain & Enchanted Evening from PTI. I'm having fun this week designing NEW goodies for Uniko Studio stamps & digital products TIME is flying!

Thanks for stopping by today.

Elegantly Inspired

Hello!

Happy April Fools Day! There will be no fooling about here on the blog today, it's all about the elegance! LOL!

I have a card to share today that I have made using this weeks Inspired By Pinterest over on Gayatri's Blog HERE

This is the inspiration piece ...

Now this one stumped me a little & I nearly didn't play along as the Time & Extra Time stamp sets didn't really fit the Elegance of this inspiration. Now I'll let you into a little secret if the next Uniko Studio stamps had been released I'd of been OK! Only 13 days till the peeks start!

Anyway, back to my card! I decided that if the imagery was not my starting point then the colours could be so this is what I came up with ...

I really quite surprised myself at how well this card turned out! I was originally going to use a simple rounded corner rectangle for the sentiment & then remembered that I had this one from EK Success, which has a more elegant feel to it.

For the sentiment I stamped one half and then the second half below so it would fit inside the frame. I always practice this on a scrap piece of paper first!

I'm SO glad I had a bash at this challenge & it certainly challenged me to think outside of the box! Until tomorrow ...

Thanks for stopping by today!

Inspired By ...

Hello!

As a designer I find inspiration everywhere! This translates also when it comes to card making! I love to flip through magazines for card layouts and techniques to try. Since Pinterest came along I am finding I am spending A LOT of time there looking at lovely inspiration!

For this card ...

I was inspired by the card below I had seen in Papercrafts Magazine which was also pinned on Pinterest!

I was mainly inspired by the decreasing shades of blue from left to right of the card and the @ shape. I immediately thought of my FAVE clock face and came up with the card above.

Thats all I have to share for today! I'll be back tomorrow! Thanks for stopping by!

Leap with some Extra Time!

Happy Leap Day!

I thought it fitting with this extra day this year that I should use some of it to make a card! It's even more fitting using the Extra Time set!

Now, this card isn't my usual CAS kinda style I usually make, but I thought I'd do something a little out of my comfort zone and add a few more layers! There seems to be a lot going on but it quite simple really! And, I only used the Extra Time stamp set for this card stamp wise that is!

I started by using the 'Every MOMENT Counts' sentiment stamp and simply stamped it across a piece of kraft CS using Chocolate Chip ink. I then used some chalk inks to add a lil bit of a distressed edge to finish it off. This was adhered to a Chocolate Chip base card.

I knew I wanted the Clocking In & Out card to be a removable embellishment & one that could have a handwritten note on, so I stamped it onto white CS using Crumb Cake ink and cut it out leaving a small border around the card.

It happens to fit perfectly into the library card holder die cut from PTI, so I die cut this from Kraft CS which I adhered to a mat of Pacific Point CS. I thought the blue was a striking colour against the muted browns & I love blue!

I chose my favourite clock face from the set and stamped it in the Pacific Point ink and used a 1 3/4" circle punch to cut it out. I then used foam pads and adhered it to a scallop die cut. I felt the 'Just BECAUSE' fit nicely with the other 2 I have used and it is nice to send people a 'Just BECAUSE' card which I don't do nearly enough. Shame on me!

I hope that you have enjoyed today's card and take note and 'Make Every MOMENT Count'!

Thanks for stopping by today!

Shades of Blue

I was in the mood to use my favourite colour today ... blue!

Whilst blog hopping I happened upon a card by Maile Bells on her post HERE. She had used the masking technique and it had me thinking I hadn't used this technique in a while.

So combining some shades of blue to stamp the pocket watch image from TIME and a little masking I came up with this get well card.

I love one layer cards as it makes posting them out super easy! I added a metal clip to the top right just for a little added interest but I wished I'd put it the other side now I look at the photo while I type! Oh well, next time!

Such a super simple & relatively quick card to make if you need a masculine get well card. The most time consuming part of the card is cutting the mask out, but the pocket watch is a reasonable size so it only took minutes! I used 3 inks from SU! Marina Mist, Pacific Point & Night of Navy and I love how they sit together.

This card could easily be suitable for a lady just by switching the colours for pinks or purples & adding a little loop of ribbon instead of the metal.

One more thing before I go to have my tea, did you see THIS over on The Stamp Attic Blog? Yes, I'm out and about again & this time I will be demoing Uniko Studio Stamps at The Stamp Attic on March 10th!

I'd LOVE to see you so pop on by if your in the area - there's other stuff too going on in the shop! Fun Huh!

Thanks for stopping by today!
