dahlia fields forever

dahliafields forever dahliafields forever dahliafields forever dahliafields forever dahliafields forever dahliafields forever

2022, without a doubt the most exuberant dahlia year!

Every week I think the dahlia season is almost over, but yesterday I picked another beautiful bouquet for our kitchen table.

faded flowers

garden flowers vintage vase

The last garden flowers of the year, which are already faded but still pretty.

This field bouquet with nigella damascene, corn flowers and coriander flowers, I picked last week from the Villa Augustus garden. And hey, 2018 has been a lush floral year! I can not remember a year, the flowers in the garden bloomed so abundantly and flowering lasted until mid-November.

From now on we get the flowers from the auction.

I'm not only fond of flowers, I also love vases, as you may have noticed.

The painted vintage flower vase is also from Villa Augustus. I bought it in the market shop where I work 3 days a week. It's always hard to resist special items like these. I've set myself a rule, that I can never buy something impulsively. I have to wait at least one week, until I proceed to a purchase. Simply because you don't have to buy everything you like right?... And often the need is much less after a week, I know from experience. It is a great rule if you work in a nice shop like the Villa Augustus market shop, where almost daily beautiful new stuff comes in.

This unique vintage vase stared at me, and even now I kept to the 'wait a week' rule...

Well I cheated a little bit, because I put a 'reserved' sticker on it.

So the painted vase has found it's place in my new studio (under construction) and I love it, even without flowers in it, still beautiful.

alluring dahlias

dahlias dahlias dahlias dahlias dahlias

A bunch of bright and beautiful Dahlias on the kitchen table.

Dahlias are so elegant, lush and stylish, they simply have a certain 'allure'.

For a change I chose to put the tubes of the Vase d'Avril in a circle. An awesome sight, especially from above.

The dahlias are from the Villa Augustus garden, they have been blooming abundantly since the beginning of summer, it has been a great dahlia season so far.

I really can't choose which dahlia is the prettiest...

Zinnas in nature-neon colors pop on this first rainy day since weeks.

The woman who's peeking though the flowers, is a print we made from a street art photo, shot in Palermo during the Manifesta 12 in June. The artist of the original work is BR1.

eager to gardening

flower seedsdahliasaloë veramiami hot & coolmiami hot & cool

Can't wait to work in the garden. I'm eager to dig in the soil and get dirty fingernails.
Sowing the flower seeds and planting the dahlia bulbs.
Today my sweet friend Yvonne visited me and we had such a lovely day. She brought me some pretty dahlias and the American version of her book Yvestown in the Kitchen. Thanks Yvonne Xx!

We had lunch at Nobel's Brood, wool indulgence at the Textielfabrique, Yvonne showed me her newest book Weekend DIY at the Conceptstore Dordrecht.
We strolled through the beautiful old town of Dordrecht and ended up at Vreeken's Zaden, a famous seeds shop in Dordrecht were we had lots of fun and finally laughed out loud about the fact we spend an hour in a seeds shop... (I bought lots of flower seeds and yes Aloë Vera, houseplant #3)

Moreover I can not wait to transform our garden table into a botanical table, like on the cover of the inspiring book 'Miami Hot & Cool', we already bought 25 years ago.

We're almost halfway November and I'm still picking zinnias from our garden.

The last 'bunch' from the garden...(well I've already said this a few times before)

Perk up this rainy Monday!

Self-sown and self-picked garden flowers. What about that gorgeous green vintage chair and bamboo mirror from southern France? J'adore!

If it's not summer outside, so be it inside!

At Henk's office there is an annual photo competition for the staff.
The five winning photos are printed on canvas and then exhibited in the office building for a year.

One of the winning entries was this picture of the garden flowers we picked for last goodbye to granddad in the summer of 2012.

Henk took the canvas home last week and Pippa wanted it very much in her bedroom.

The flowers look great in the room of our flower girl!

late summer flowerday

flowerday

Today was a gentle autumn day with lots of sunshine and still plenty of flowers to pick from the Villa Augustus garden.
