Antique Flapper-Era Silk Dress Black AS-IS for Iridescent Beads Sequins Crafts
Offered for sale is an antique/vintage Flapper-era black silk dress with elaborate iridescent green/blue/gold/black multi-colored glass bead/sequin decorations. This dress is not wearable, as the silk is shredding. There are missing beads/sequins, but overall the decorations are in good condition. This item is sold AS-IS for repurposing / restoration / crafting.

Despite the tears to the net, I think this could easily be displayed in a museum. The designs on it, beading, and sequins still look jaw droppingly beautiful.
I know those are dark iridescents, but the color in the pictures reminds me of the passage from The Great Gatsby where a girl is talking about how she tore her dress at one of Gatsby's parties, and he sent her a replacement in "gas blue" with beads.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a kid, we used to go to the Forney Transportation Museum in Denver, and they had a small collection of old clothing (in addition to all the cars). One of the dresses was a beaded flapper evening gown that I'm pretty sure could have been described as "gas blue". Must have been an "in" color then.
Gas Blue is still a color in the UK - though not quite as common as it appears to have been in the 1920's. It's in-between a periwinkle and a pacific blue - which makes sense with the lavender beads that were described in the Great Gatsby. :-)
