STYLE: Michael Taylor

Michael Taylor

What could be more soothing and beautiful than this timeless and dramatic bedroom by the late Michael Taylor ? This chamber could just as easily be the work of the late William Hodgins also...so, I consulted with dear Stephen Salny, author of the book, "Michael Taylor Interior Design", and he confirmed that this room was designed by Mr. Taylor, for his client Eileen Michael.  Thanks Stephen!

Notice the big, heavy travertine cocktail table in foreground...the Giacometti slipper chairs, the gilt "frog" chair- and the Dodie Thayer cabbage tureen... the quilting on the bed hangings seems especially luxurious in this setting, speaking eloquently to the raised knot carpet in oyster...a place for sweet dreams...DF

Black, Navy, or Royal? Client's Choice

via Cote de Texas
Recently, I had consulted on a Mediterra Country Club project, and had suggested a very dark navy (paint) for the Master Bedroom walls.  However, my young client, David, preferred something much brighter, a strong, intense royal blue...
via Cote de Texas
While black walls may seem a bit much for most people, I found this (black) room exciting and dramatic, and my original proposal for the dark navy would have achieved a similar result.  Food for thought.  DF *****

Romantic Bed, Mario Buatta

Mario, by Konstantin Konkanias, via NYSD
What could be more romantic for Saint Valentines weekend than spending it in bed? Dear Mario does the most beautiful beds anyone could imagine~ here he is in the famous Gregory Smith chinoiserie lacquer bed, from an old McMillen job- love this charming portrait by KK, another contemporary of musical Christopher Mason, who is also a friend of the POC (prince of chintz)...

Above, my all time favorite bedroom by maestro Mario, I've often thought of just copying this...LOVE!

Using a Bold Print in a Bedroom- Aerin

Aerin Lauder, Vogue
One of our favorite newer vendors, here at MP Interiors, is AERIN ~ including beautiful furniture made for her by the E.J. Victor company.  Presently, I am re-designing a master suite for my client Mary Edelman Wilson, here in Naples, and am also proposing a large scale printed material, from Schumacher (Zanzibar Trellis Matte) and a pair of "Culloden" lamps from the AERIN collection through Visual Comfort.  The room shown above, I believe was influenced by Mark Hampton's work for Estee Lauder, Aerin's famous grandmother. Inspiring! Enjoy! DF *****

Inspiring Bedroom by Todd Alexander Romano

ROOM BY TODD ALEXANDER ROMANO, ELLE DECOR

I first saw this wall color back in the 1980's ~ when I was visiting friends at the Parish-Hadley offices in New York.  How stunning is it ?  PH used it with a leopard carpet in the entrance area of their offices.
I met Todd years ago, through the late Parkin Saunders, when I worked with Parkin at Saunders and Walsh, Inc.
To me, the very French combination of the chartreuse velvet with the peacock lacquered walls is inspiring!  I also adore the white gesso on the Federal style mirror...you can see the rest of Todd's NY apartment on the Love Is Speed blog~ (it was published first in Elle Decor)~ Enjoy!  DF *****

A Room With A View

DEAN FARRIS INTERIOR DESIGN

This bedroom in Naples, in the Grey Oaks Country Club~ is one of my pet projects, and it has a beautiful view of the pool and the golf course.  We used a Henredon armoire to conceal the television~ and Audrey Jake of Renaissance did a fabulous job of executing a custom strie' wall finish.  Our client already owned the Chinese art~ which makes the room, truly a room with a view!  DF ***** (Find me at MP Interiors at the Miromar Design Center )

Thanksgiving Fun!

Chez Ridgeway's Naples
Mary and I had a fabulous, indulgent, yet refreshing day- a very light prix fixe with some divine French Rose' - very dry and like nectar-
My first course, Ridgeway's
The salade mixte, was very good, and just the right touch of a lightly dressed palate refresher-
Coral at Saint Tropez Home, Naples
I loved this huge coral - in the window of the home boutique called Saint Tropez Home- it was huge!
Brain coral keystone at St tropez Home, Naples
The exterior foundation had this beautiful chunk of coral key stone, something Addison Mizner and Maurice Fatio were very fond of using in old P.B.
Gunner playing with his head warmer
Later, we stopped by to see Kevin and Kira, and the new puppy, Gunner, who was just such a sweet pup, even though he ate my pumpkin pie crust! :)
A rare glimpse of my bedroom!
Ah, and so to bed! I found the lamps on the street in Port Royal- (discarded) and used a duvet cover and shams from Z Galerie.  Notice the Rose Cumming Dessin Fournir Banana Leaves in taupe on the chair, one of a pair in the room- Sleep well, hoping your thanksgiving was as delightful as mine was!
Cheers! DF *****
