Yesterday we were talking about characters. My daughter was really upset about the new trend in movies where all characters turn out to be mean and dirty at the end. Nobody is perfect, there is no question about it, but we all need to believe that we can improve and reach a higher level of good if we try to. My daughter’s disappointment proved that Bruno Bettelheim has a good point in ‘The Good Enough Parent’ (I had a vague memory that I read it in that book) that children need positive heroes because these creatures (like Santa) impersonate the goodwill of others and makes the world less scary place for them. The new heroes make us suspicious and mistrustful of others, I do hope it will change soon. Until then, I keep on trying to make my characters positive in our board games and I hope the topics and the goals meet real virtues. Friday was a really beautiful spring day when it seemed impossible to work or just stay put when the sun was shining outside. The lights were amazing in the public garden near to our house so I took the Glasshouse game with me to set the fairies and the light bugs free. We all enjoyed the freedom together and the scents of spring air. :-)

Especially in time schedules. The streets have been decorated with Christmas lights weeks ago, people are walking by with beautifully wrapped presents and I haven't even started the preparations! I am troubled with designing the Kingdom game. I loved so much the games we published this year that it is a real challenge to focus on a new one. The hipe of the sidetracked ideas and sketches grows continuously. I used to do a better job in the past, but I might have taken fewer duties. I must be crazy to start designing a new game in the holiday shopping season, but I am still chasing romantic dreams of Christmas just like a child. Unfortunately, I still haven't found a good solution to make a “how to play” movie of the games in the quality I expect, so I continue my short animations that bring my favourite characters to life. I hope you will like this new one with Glasshouse . Ever since our life is so busy and noisy, in a city where something always catches our eyes or sidetracks our thoughts, where we need a lot of energy and consistency to focus on our own standards, we need to spend our holidays in places, where silence and nature surround us. This summer we choose a perfect destination far away from adventures: a fairy-tale garden. We just did things we never had time for: long walks in the vineyard on steamy mornings, laying in the garden and filling up with sunshine. In this quiet state, lots of forgotten things, half-written tales, never finished pictures returned. Our thoughts broke into pieces in the constant rush and only this relaxed mood can fit them into a complete, meaningful story. The timeless and fairytale-like atmosphere of the garden reminded me of Bojana’s old storybook. I’ve just finished a new game before the paint would have even dried on the previous one (In The Garden). Every time, I provide new and unexpected technical challenges for the manufacturers and of course for my husband. I'm not doing it on purpose, but somehow I always succeed. Although they did their best and finally solved all the problems we still have to wait a long time for “In The Garden” to be available. The theme of the new game is also related to nature and gardens, although it is more inspired by the botanical garden. There is a fairy tale with it, as always: On the land of the night fairies where the sun never shines, the plants grow in the glasshouse. Lightning bugs take care of them and provide enough light them to grow. Green Giggle, the naughty cat, loves to chase them to the meadow. The night fairies have to rescue the confused little bugs and bring them back to the safe glasshouse in their lanterns, hoping that Green Giggle does not cause more...
