Ed&Wolf – werk photos

Image
I hope you are all good and recovered from the shock of the first school day(s)! Did you have a lovely holiday? This summer passed quickly with returning to the normal way of living, don't you think? I enjoyed having people around me again: They gave me lots of new ideas and inspiration. For the first time after the miserable period of lock-downs, my imagination flowed and I dived myself deeply into Ed&Wolf’s story which did not stop at the borders of a board game. The pictures piled up on my desk and I hope this very detailed story will be published not just as a board game but a picture book too. During the upcoming weeks, I will show you all I have and if you like the pictures I will do my best to fill up the collection of printings on the Marbushka website!

New Sketches

I have started to design a new game a couple of weeks ago. The main characters, Ed and Wolf head to the Moon Tree to ask him for Courage (that they will presumably gain during their adventures). The current design started backwards: before having any idea of the game rules I drew these pictures, even if they might not fit in the game. If they will fit, they will be coloured, but if they won’t, I’ll keep that gloomy/monochrome world to myself. :-)

About the Design Process

Image
I have never posted anything like this before, but now I thought maybe you are curious how the design process develops. These pictures were taken at the very beginning of the work when nobody understands what I am messing around with those piece of papers. At this point, the game method is visible only for me (more or less) and takes a long time to reach an acceptable level to share my idea with others. Scary, isn’t it? oh, and there is one more reason for writing this post:… a new game is about to begin – :-))))

Under the Leaves – Main Characters

Under The Leaves

I probably have spent too much time walking in the forest with the dog because one day, I caught myself imagining fantasy creatures around me. I could clearly see them hiding under the arched roots and lying peacefully on the moss-covered islands in the lake. As I discovered more and more unique details in the forest, I sank deeper into a new world. ...and a new story has begun. My new game leads you to a small, adventurous world under the leaves. The main characters of the game are busy with building magical boats which float above the water. (This is the only way to cross the Untouchable Lake.) The autumn forest gave me rich inspiration to finalise all the characters and the story itself. I wanted to continue the gameplay of The Wonderful World of Güs , I even picked a few things out of it but as the game was developing, these elements disappeared and something new cropped up instead. The game rule worked perfectly for a couple of days, but as usual, everything collapsed in a moment....

Characters • Karakterek

The Kingdom has a very different beginning. Actually, I wanted to create a darker and much more realistic fantasy world, but my plans were overwritten by the game rules. It is funny to recognize, that my talent in drawing and my mathematical knowledge about the game mechanisms are not balanced yet: one of them is always behind the other. I hope it will improve in the future to spare lots of extra work for me.  These are the first characters I made:… I had to ignore them all and create lots of other figures. Hopefully, these ones will show up in another game.
